Chapter 7

The male staff member examined each material with a serious expression.
Every time he finished one, he wrote something on a piece of paper, and after about 30 minutes, the evaluation of all the materials was complete.
"Phew~ It's been a while since I've evaluated such high-quality materials."
"Thank you for your hard work. So, how much did it come to?"
"Ah, a total of 2.5 million gold."
"N-nani!?"
"That's, that's expensive!!"
Raul and I were astonished by the evaluation amount.
We never expected it to be that much.
"Well, as expected of items stored in an [Item Box], the quality was top-notch."
The male staff member said this with satisfaction and handed me the paper he had written on during the evaluation.
The paper listed the evaluation results for each material.
[Dragon Eye] 100,000 gold
[Fire Dragon Scale] 300,000 gold
[Fire Dragon Claw] 330,000 gold
[Fire Dragon Fang] 350,000 gold
[Fire Dragon Tail] 500,000 gold
[Young Oni General's Sash] 170,000 gold
[Young Oni General's Skin] 150,000 gold
[Obsidian Bear Claw] 200,000 gold
[Obsidian Bear Fang] 200,000 gold
[Obsidian Bear Skin] 200,000 gold
"Can we really get this much for them..."
I said, my mouth agape.
Raul also came over to look at the paper, seeing my reaction.
"Wow... This is incredible... I've never seen an evaluation like this before..."
"Of course. It's a tough ask to expect adventurers in this town to take down such big catches. That's why it's rare to get such an exciting evaluation."
The male staff member continued.
"The money can be collected at the reception. Just take this paper there; we don't have the cash here."
"Understood."
I responded, still bewildered.
Receiving such a large sum of money all at once... It feels almost unreal.
And there's still a lot more in the [Item Box].
If we sell those, we won't have to worry about money for a while...
"Still, where did you get such materials? You didn't kill them, did you?"
The male staff member asked with interest.
If I told him I killed them in my previous life, he wouldn't believe me...
"When I was kicked out of my home, I was given these to sell for money."
"I see... It sounds like you have a complicated family situation. I won't pry further."
"Thank you."
I was relieved that he didn't ask for more details, as it could have exposed my lie.
Raul and I then retraced our steps along the path the receptionist had shown us.
"...You've been through a lot, haven't you?"
Raul said with a sympathetic look.
"Not really. Now that I think about it, being kicked out of my home was probably for the best."
"Haha, you're tough."
"Hmm, am I?"
"Yeah, being able to stay positive is a form of strength."
"Is that so?"
"That's right. Look, we're at the reception."
At the reception, the line of adventurers that was there earlier was now gone.
"Ah, it seems the adventurers have left to complete their quests. We don't have to wait in line again."
Raul said.
Indeed, the line earlier was for adventurers to receive their quests.
The receptionist also seemed to have finished her work.
"Excuse me, the material evaluation is complete."
I called out to the receptionist who had guided us.
"Ah, could you please hand me the paper with the evaluation results?"
"Sure."
I handed the paper to the receptionist.
"Wh-what!? Nya!?"
The receptionist let out a loud exclamation and covered her mouth with her right hand. She then bowed repeatedly, looking apologetic.
"...I apologize for my composure. I'm very sorry."
"No, no, it's fine. We reacted the same way just a moment ago."
"...I'm sorry, thank you. I'll prepare the money for you now, so please wait over there for a moment."
"Understood."
So, Raul and I sat down in the chairs.
However, Raul seemed unusually quiet.
"What's wrong, Raul?"
"...Nothing, just a bit of something."
Raul's behavior was clearly off.
Then, I heard footsteps approaching us.
Turning in the direction of the sound, I saw a group of three adventurers walking towards us.
They were older than us and had a somewhat arrogant attitude.
"Hey, Raul. You're not here to take a quest today, huh?"
"Can you afford the adventurer's fee for today?"
"Y-yes, of course."
Raul's voice was trembling slightly.
What's this adventurer's fee about? It doesn't sound good.
"So, is this guy a new adventurer?"
"No, I'm..."
"It's not that. He's not an adventurer; he's a client who came to use the guild's services! In fact, I was planning to take a quest from him later!"
Raul hastily interrupted me.
"Hmm, a client, huh..."
The three adventurers looked at Raul with suspicious eyes.
"Alma-san! Your money is ready, please come to the reception!"
"Coming!"
It seemed the money was ready.
However, I was hesitant to leave Raul like this.
"Go ahead. I have something to do, so I'll catch up later."
"O-okay."
Raul said this, stood up, and left with the three adventurers.
── I've been through a lot too. That's why I was going to try my best to stop you from becoming an adventurer when you first mentioned it.
Seeing this, I remembered the words Raul said when we first talked.
"Alma-san!"
"Coming!"
After receiving the money from the receptionist, I decided to move around a bit.
...I hope this bad feeling is just a baseless worry.
