Shu Yian very much despised Su Wen’s hypocritical behavior of complaining about others but not allowing others to do the same to her. Unfortunately, she was living under the other person’s roof and so can only bow her head in defeat.

With the desire to survive, she hurriedly wore a flattering smile on her face, “Hahaha, actually, I just wanted to ask President Su if you’re busy~”

Su Wen: “Speak normally!”

Shu Yian immediately switched back to her serious expression, “Alright, if you insist, President Su. What I wanted to say is, if you have nothing to do, then come join me for lunch.”

She raised her wrist and lowered her gaze to look at her watch. Her gesture was to send a signal to Su Wen that the time is late and they should eat lunch now. She also wanted to signal that she had said those words earlier for this ‘reason’.

Unfortunately, when she actually looked down at her wrist, she found that she only had a bracelet on her left wrist. A beautiful sterling silver bracelet inlaid with exquisite and small emeralds, but most definitely not a watch.

So Shu Yian pursed her lips, trying not to show that she was embarrassed and took out her phone, “It’s already 11:30.”

She had a sincere expression on her face, as if she really cared about Su Wen’s well-being.

But probably because the sincerity was overdone, Su Wen was not convinced. She had watched this woman change from a dodgy expression to a concerned expression in less than a second. One moment she was insulting her and the next her face seemed to say, ‘I’m concerned that you might be hungry.’

She coldly sneered, “You change faces rather quickly!”

Shu Yian didn’t change her expression as she replied: “Yup, I learned the face changing technique from the Sichuan Opera when I was young.” (T/N: The sichuan opera face changing technique where actors change their masks really quickly in a span of several seconds. When you say someone’s face changes like the sichuan opera actors, you are saying they are two-faced. Video for more about this technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1IVyo7Txus)

Su Wen: “…..”

【What is this Sichuan Opera? Why can’t I understand? 】

【She must have deliberately said something strange to attract my attention and get me to speak with her. Ha, but I won’t be fooled!】

Shu Yian’s face stiffened. She really wanted to tell Su Wen: ‘Young woman, you are thinking too much.’ but of course she couldn’t say that out loud.

After all, Su Wen didn’t show any of her emotions on her face and she hasn’t said a single word with her lips. Therefore, Shu Yian can’t just say that for no reason.

What’s more, even if Su Wen verbalized her thoughts, what could she do about it?

She still needs to rely on Su Wen for her livelihood. In this godforsaken world that she is not familiar with, how was she going to survive without any support? If Su Wen really wanted to, she could take away her phone and drive her out. Then her life would become even more difficult.

She could go to the police station for help, but it would be a fruitless endeavor. She doesn’t know her family address nor does she have anyone’s phone numbers memorized. Not to mention, she’ll get a penalty if she doesn’t see Su Wen every three days.

Shu Yian felt like she had nothing left to live for and laid back despondently onto the sofa.

At first, she had thought she would make a fortune by agreeing to stay in this world. Who knew she’d end up in this sort of miserable situation? As the saying goes, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

In her mind, she silently called out to the system: “Is it too late for me to abandon this mission?”

The system replied back in a deadpan tone: [Once the mission is accepted, unless the host falls in love with the target or dies, they are not allowed to give up and leave before the mission is completed.]

Shu Yian stiffened, she no longer wanted to do anything but lie there and wallow in her self-pity. Unfortunately, Su Wen would not allow her to do that.

“Shu Yian?”

Shu Yian immediately sits upright again and replies with a business smile on her face: “What’s wrong, President Su?”

【Heh, she used to call me ‘Sister Su-Su’ then calls me ‘Little Wenwen’ and now she’s calling me President Su again? My, look at how quickly she changes her title for me.】

Su Wen sneered coldly and then looked at Shu Yian with a mocking expression: “Smile for me.”

Shu Yian: “…..”

Su Wen saw that she didn’t understand and continued, “Like what you did just now, a fake smile with what seems like a touch of sincerity in it.”

【I never knew there was someone by my side with such good acting skills. Since you like to act so much, I will let you continue to act.】

Shu Yian inhaled three deep breaths, trying her best to resist her urge to punch a certain someone, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t help her fists from clenching.

This woman….does she think she’s some kind of circus monkey?

A stiff smile grew on her face and she slowly made her way from the edge of the sofa towards Su Wen.

Although Su Wen looked at her calmly, inside her heart, she was panicking.

【T-This woman, has she gone crazy? What does she want to do? 】

【Could it be that she wants to push me down and then tear off my clothes? In the middle of the day?! Is this a conspiracy against me?】

Shu Yian was at the end of her patience.

She thought about the past Shu Yian. She would shamelessly stick to Su Wen and even scare this woman into avoiding her.

But now?

Now she, the current Shu Yian, wants to make some space between the two of them, but this woman is not only not afraid of her anymore, but she is also treating her more and more rudely!

In that case, then let’s all just be annoying and disgusting together.

Shu Yian put both her hands against the sofa, trapping Su Wen in her arms. She blinked suggestively at Su Wen first, firing a couple of ‘flirtatious’ heart eyes at the woman and then puckered her lips like she was about to kiss her.

Su Wen was so scared by this display that she immediately threw Shu Yian onto the sofa, gave Shu Yian a cold glare, and then fled straight upstairs.

The look of contempt she wore on her face seems to say, ‘I’m looking down on you! And I don’t take you seriously!’

Then the expression changed back to her normal calm and steady look as if to say, ‘I’m going upstairs because I’m tired and not because I’m afraid of you!’.

Unfortunately for Su Wen, Shu Yian could hear her inner voice and knew excatly what she was thinking: 【I knew it! I knew this woman couldn’t keep pretending for much longer! Look at how quickly she revealed her true face!】

【I must escape quickly. If I don’t leave, I no longer will be the clean and honest Su Wen, but a Su Wen who is unclean in body and mind!】

【Oh my god, Shu Yian is still the same Shu Yian as before. Scary, way too scary.】

Shu Yian sat up from the sofa and looked at Su Wen’s retreating back. She patted herself on the back, “You’re the one who forced my hand, yet you dare to continue insulting me.”

When the clock struck noon, just when Shu Yian finished drying the last of her clothes, the housekeeper came out with her trolley. She placed the dishes onto the table with a satisfied expression. Whenever Su Wen returns home, she always makes sure to have the meal ready at exactly twelve o’clock.

Smelling the delicious scent coming from the table, Shu Yian’s appetite suddenly increased by tenfold. She felt curious and asked, “Auntie, when did you cook this? Why didn’t I smell anything earlier?”

Shouldn’t she have been able to smell this delicious fragrance earlier? Especially the housekeeper’s cooking as her food was delicious in both fragrance and taste.

Although the housekeeper did not get along with her not too long ago, she felt that Shu Yian had changed these past few days and was no longer as afraid of her as before. She smiled shyly and replied: “Maybe it’s because the cooking vents are just working a little too well….”

【Also it’s because it takes five minutes to walk from the kitchen to here.】

Shu Yian: “…..”

Although she had interacted with the housekeeper for three days, she had stayed in her room for most of it and only came downstairs to eat. So she never even saw the kitchen in this mansion. So it turns out that rich people’s mansions are so big…..

Poverty really does limit the imagination.

The housekeeper arranged the food and then went to call Su Wen down for dinner. There were a few delicious side dishes with the main course and two plates of fruits on the side as well.

One plate held Shu Yian’s favorite fruit: mango. The mango was cut up into small cubes and arranged nicely with toothpicks sticking out of each cube. The other plate was full of fruit as well, but it was a plate of Chardonnay white grapes instead of mango. Shu Yian is a little ashamed to say that she has never eaten this type of grape before. The only reason she even knows about this variety of grape is because she saw it on TV. From what she can remember, this type of grape is very expensive so of course, she made a point to remember it. However, she never thought that one day she would be able to eat this type of expensive fruit.

She pushed the plate of grapes towards Su Wen’s seat. She assumed that plate was meant for Su Wen. She grabbed the plate of mangoes instead and took a few bites.

When Su Wen and the housekeeper came downstairs, they both looked at her in shock.

Neither of them spoke but inside their hearts, they thought the same thing: 【She’s actually eating mangoes?】

From her interactions with Shu Yian in the last few months, Su Wen understood that Shu Yian liked anything as long as it was expensive. She refused to eat cheap food. However, not liking to eat cheap food couldn’t really be considered a dislike.

But Shu Yian hates only two things.

Cheap things and….mangoes.

That’s right, she hates anything that is sold at a discount or just plain cheap and she hates the fruit called mango. But Su Wen likes to eat mangoes. So the housekeeper prepared a separate plate of grapes for Shu Yian in addition to the plate of mangoes.

Speaking of, Su Wen suddenly remembered something.

Her grandmother and Shu Yian’s grandmother are very close and so before she even laid eyes on Shu Yian, she had heard about her. She learned from her grandmother that Shu Yian is knowledgeable and reasonable, a gentle soul who is especially good at playing the piano. And her favorite fruit is the mango.

However, the Shu Yian that Su Wen would meet later was very different from the young lady she heard of.

When she met Shu Yian for the first time, she immediately felt that her personality was shrewish and disgusting. She liked rich and expensive things but hated anything cheap or considered poor. Overall, her character was extremely bad. Moreover, that day was Shu Yian’s birthday and she was forced to play the piano for her guests. Yet, it was clear she did not know how to play and ended up embarrassing herself. Shu Yian’s family repeatedly assured Su Wen that this was because her hands were injured and that’s why she couldn’t perform well.

Most rich young ladies’ reputations tend to be blown out of proportion, so Su Wen did not mind it then and only laughed it off without doubting a word they said. It was only when Shu Yian moved in with her and told her she hated mangoes the most that Su Wen began to have doubts.

A person’s personality can be blown out of proportion and so can one’s skills. After all, it’s understandable if one wanted to lie to gain some fame. However, how can one lie about their favorite food?

Shu Yian could clearly hear every single thought in Su Wen’s mind and the hand holding the toothpick with a cube of mango at its end trembled slightly

The past Shu Yian didn’t like mangoes?

But Su Wen said that an even earlier version of Shu Yian likes mangoes? So should she eat the mangoes or not?

Shu Yian felt conflicted, but in the end, couldn’t hold back her appetite and placed the cube of mango into her mouth.

If even Su Wen is not sure about whether or not she likes mangoes, then she’s just going to satisfy her own desire first before worrying about what Su Wen thinks.

Su Wen pulled out her seat and sat down.

Although she was quite curious about Shu Yian’s strange behavior today, it was not because she cared about Shu Yian, but a natural curiosity about the unknown. Therefore, she didn’t bother asking Shu Yian.

However, when she saw Shu Yian eating mangoes with her head down, she was a little unhappy.

【Why is this woman like this?】

【Previously she said she didn’t like to eat her supposed favorite food and that’s fine, but now…why does she have to eat what’s mine?】

Although there is no shortage of mangoes in her house, Su Wen felt unhappy that her own things were taken away by others.

“Shu Yian!” She called out that woman’s name again.

Shu Yian naturally knew what she was thinking and immediately wore a smile on her face: “What’s the matter, Little Wenwen? Do you want me to sit next to you? Then I’ll come over now.”

She and Su Wen were previously sitting across from each other and so she stood up as if she really wanted to sit next to Su Wen.

Su Wen immediately rejected her with a disgusted expression: “No need!”

Shu Yian looked at her innocently and tilted her head, “Then why did you call my name for?”

Su Wen’s face darkened: “Nothing!”

To be honest, Su Wen feels very conflicted right now.

【Why do I have a feeling that this woman is only pretending to like me now? I don’t sense any real passion in her eyes, it’s like she’s deliberately pretending to be a disgusting person.】

【But that’s couldn’t be….she really liked me before….】

【En, I understand now. That lukewarm gaze just now must be fake! 】

Shu Yian, who had her head lowered as she ate, rolled her eyes when she heard Su Wen’s inner voice.

When this novel’s author created Su Wen’s personality, just how much narcissism did she pour into Su Wen’s character?

Both of them were occupied with their own thoughts and so neither of them foresaw what would happen next.

Their chopsticks collided with each other as they both reached for the same piece of sweet and sour pork.

Two pairs of eyes met and a storm surged to the surface.

Su Wen: 【Although you did attract my attention for a few seconds, did you really think that I’ve become interested in you? I hate scheming women like you the most! 】

Shu Yian: 【The feeling is mutual, I don’t like mentally handicapped children either.】
