Are You Laughing at My Cracked Eggs?
Chapter Courtesy: Wang Mei
Before long, the time for the field trip had arrived.
As the class president, Shen Wanying had to be at school by seven in the morning. Per the school’s arrangements, everyone took a bus together to go to Starlight Farm. Since the long drive was boring, the Cultural Committee got up and took the lead to get everyone to sing. Thus, they passed the time happily without succumbing to the tedium and it didn’t take long before they reached their destination.
Since they would be staying at the hotel that evening, the first thing they did was check-in. The rooms had already been assigned ahead of the field trip with the teachers deciding on those that stayed alone and in groups.
Shen Wanying was assigned a room with Zhao Yimeng. As soon as they entered the room, the latter took out her stash of snacks. “I’ve brought a lot of food that we can eat tonight and watch the drama. By the way, did you bring the face mask you mentioned last time? I want to try it tonight!”
“I brought it. Here.” Shen Wanying took the mask out of her school bag and handed it over. The packaging was simple but luxurious. It looked very expensive.
“It’s really something that would be used by Lady Shen.” Zhao Yimeng exaggeratedly sighed in admiration.
Shen Wanying: “You indeed have a talent for acting. I’m looking forward to your performance tonight.”
Zhao Yimeng: “——”
Can you not mention it! I was forced to perform after losing in drawing lots!
“If my monthly test score drops this time, I will have to perform!” Zhao Yimeng took Shen Wanying’s hand and went out together. “Hey, did you know? The last time I stayed on the second floor in this hotel and I got acquainted with a senior sister. She said that the west room on the first floor was always locked, and there seemed to be something filthy in it.”
“——” Shen Wanying looked at her silently before saying, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
Zhao Yimeng: “I’m not. We’ll go and see it later. That room isn’t still locked, is it?”
Shen Wanying: “As one of the class members, you should obey the class rules and not run around.”
Zhao Yimeng: “Oh.”
After the students assembled at the designated area, they made sure everyone was accounted for. The main morning activity would carry on until lunchtime. All the food ingredients in Starlight Farm were grown and cultivated themselves. Everyone, except the students who were in charge of the cooking in each class, had to do their best to go gather the ingredients that would be used for lunch.
The farm’s kitchen was very spacious. Today, it was specially made available for the students to use. Each class had three to four people to make the meals. Shen Wanying called her classmates and went to the kitchen with Huo Cheng.
Currently, the atmosphere was very lively as everyone was preparing the equipment inside. In order to match with the image of the farm, the kitchen was of a rustic style. Contrary to its appearance, the paraphernalia was modern. If not, it was entirely possible the students would go hungry if they really had to make a fire for the stove before cooking anything.
“Lady Shen, why are you here too?” Fang Yichang saw her and immediately put down the wok in his hand, greeting her eagerly.
Shen Wanying smiled and replied, “I’m here to help my classmates.”
Fang Yichang: “Oh, by the way, I’m good at cooking. I’ll show it to you later.”
Huo Cheng said indifferently, “Are you cooking or performing acrobatics?”
“Do you want to cook too?” Fang Yichang shot him a glare and raised his chin with confidence. “How about we see later who can cook the most delicious dishes?”
Hong Hong immediately assisted his brother. “Our Brother Chang may not be better than you in learning, but you are not necessarily his opponent cooking. If you want to find a boyfriend, you should find someone like Brother Chang.” Saying so, he winked at Shen Wanying.
Shen Wanying laughed. “Puppy love isn’t allowed in the school. Let’s start cooking!”
Some basic ingredients had already been supplied. Huo Cheng planned to process these first to save time and avoid having more work than they could deal with later. When Shen Wanying saw he had cracked the eggs single-handedly, she tried it herself. However, after trying for a long time without success, she finally gave in and switched to using both hands.
Noticing her actions, Huo Cheng stifled a laugh beside her.
Shen Wanying turned her head and looked at him. “Did you laugh just now?”
Huo Cheng denied it immediately. “No, I didn’t.”
Shen Wanying: “I heard you laugh.”
Huo Cheng: “——”
Shen Wanying: “Are you laughing at my cracked eggs?”
Huo Cheng: “No—”
Shen Wanying threw the eggshells in her hand into the trash can and, still smiling, said, “You know, in the four-dimensional space, you can take the egg out of it without breaking the eggshell. Did you know this?”
“No.” Huo Cheng looked sincere.
Shen Wanying continued. “So it’s nothing special to be able to crack eggs single-handedly.”
“You’re right.”
After the pleasant exchange, she didn’t plan to continue cracking the eggs. Instead, she picked up a knife next to her and said, “I’ll slice the mushrooms.”
Because she was afraid the farm didn’t have enough mushrooms, Shen Wanying had bought some using the class budget. She couldn’t crack the eggs well, but surely she could still cut the mushrooms well by drawing an “X” on them.
When Huo Cheng saw Shen Wanying holding a knife in her hand, the scene of her piercing his abdomen with it suddenly flashed through his mind.
This memory was so profound that he could feel the pain in his body again.
