Do You Like Seafood Mushroom?
Chapter Courtesy: Wang Mei
Suddenly, the cafeteria was full of noise. It wasn’t clear what dispute had occurred at the food counter, but many students craned their necks to watch the commotion.
Zhao Yimeng wanted to stand on a chair, but couldn’t bring herself to. Fortunately, Huo Cheng was there, allowing her to consciously maintain her image, so she asked, “What’s the matter? What’s going on? Who’s fighting?”
“I don’t know.” Shen Wanying put down her spoon and looked at the place where the most students were gathered. “It sounds like Fang Yichang.”
“Let me take a look!” Zhao Yimeng took her milk tea and ran towards the crowd before Shen Wanying could reply or try to stop her.
In front of the food counter, Fang Yichang had stopped Ji Yao. “What, just because you’re the first place student, you think you can just jump in the line like that? Besides, you aren’t the first-place anymore.”
A male student wearing glasses who was standing beside Ji Yao explained anxiously, “No, it’s only a misunderstanding. Just now, Ji Yao said he was going to wash his hands and asked me to buy the food for him. In the end, he finished washing his hands and returned to the line. He came back saying that he would get the food by himself.”
Fang Yichang remained unmoved. “Do you think if you say it like that I’ll just believe it? Who knows if both of you are scheming.”
The male student anxiously replied, “Don’t be so unreasonable.”
“Me? Unreasonable? Does it make sense for you to jump in the line?”
“I’ve told you this is just a misunderstanding—”
Ji Yao grabbed the male student, who still wanted to explain the matter to Fang Yichang, by the arm and said, “You don’t need to explain it to him. He’s just deliberately finding and picking at faults.”
Fang Yichang: “I’m picking at faults? When I was the one who honestly lined up and got cut in line, how’s it that I’m the one that’s picking at faults?”
“What is this commotion? Do you still want to eat?” The cafeteria staff finally rushed over and separated the two opposing students. “If you don’t want to eat, then follow me to the office and don’t disturb other students.”
Ji Yao glanced at Fang Yichang and went to the back of the queue to line up. Zhao Yimeng, who was still holding her milk tea, squeezed out through the crowd and came back to the table, “I found out what happened. Fang Yichang was accusing Ji Yao of cutting in the line. Ji Yao said he didn’t cut in, but Fang Yichang insisted on saying that he did.”
Shen Wanying was silent for a moment before saying, “And then?”
“Ji Yao went to the back of the queue to line up.” Zhao Yimeng angrily sipped her milk tea. “I think Ji Yao was right, Fang Yichang was deliberately finding faults!”
Qiu Ziqing’s eyes lit up as she opened her mouth to speak. “I also think Fang Yichang was doing it on purpose. It’s really not a big deal. If it was another person exchanging spots in the queue, Fang Yichang wouldn’t have stopped them like that. He only did it because the other person was Ji Yao.”
Zhao Yimeng glanced at her. “What do you mean? Is it possible that Fang Yichang is jealous of Ji Yao’s good grades?”
If he had that kind of motivation, he wouldn’t have had to sit in the last examination room.
Qiu Ziqing: “It has nothing to do with his grades. Doesn’t Fang Yichang always say that he likes Shen Wanying? But Shen Wanying likes Ji Yao. So, naturally, he doesn’t like Ji Yao.”
Zhao Yimeng: “——”
So, you have been digging a hole and waiting? In front of both Huo Cheng and Shen Wanying, saying that Shen Wanying likes Ji Yao… With what intentions did you say that!
Shen Wanying, who was sitting on the opposite side, smiled. “Qiu Ziqing, I don’t know where you heard about this, but it’s better not to spread rumors like this, right?”
Zhao Yimeng immediately agreed. “Yes! It’s wise to stop spreading rumors! You said that your test scores are so good, so your IQ shouldn’t be low. Why do you still chew on people’s tonguesliteral translation is to “bite off the root of one’s tongue”; it’s used to refer to gossiping and speaking ill of people behind their backs. From the classic Journey to the West with the context that it was believed it was a suitable punishment for slander – to bite off one’s tongue at the root.?”
Qiu Ziqing immediately felt embarrassed. “I’m sorry, it’s my fault. In the future, I won’t talk about another student’s affairs anymore.”
When Zhao Yimeng looked at her shriveled appearance, she couldn’t help but feel happy in her heart. My lady’s trick is really good, as expected!
After the quartet finished their meal, they each went back to their own dorms for the rest of the break, using the time to prepare for the afternoon exam.
Qiu Ziqing joined their group again for lunch the next day.
There was only one more subject left in the examinations for the afternoon. After that, all that was remained was the field trip the next day.
With the excursion drawing closer, the students felt their lunches were more appetizing than usual though, the food from the school cafeteria had always been well received. There were also a lot of varieties of meal sets to pick from, divided into three types – A, B & C, according to the degree of luxury.
Set C had three meat dishes and one vegetarian dish, a meal set fit for nobility. If the students ordered this meal set today, they probably wouldn’t be able to afford dinner.
When Shen Wanying and the others each ordered Set C, Zhao Yimeng thought to herself, this round I get to have a couple’s meal with Huo Cheng.
Today’s Set C solely consisted of a vegetarian stir-fry. Qiu Ziqing saw that he had finished eating first, and asked him, “Huo Cheng, do you like seafood mushrooms[mfn]check link[/mfn]? I haven’t eaten the seafood mushroom in my meal. Do you want to eat mine?”
Huo Cheng refused. “No need, thanks.”
Qiu Ziqing said, “You don’t need to worry, I haven’t touched it. I don’t really like to eat them.”
Before she could do anything, Zhao Yimeng took the stir-fry instead. “I love seafood mushrooms, too. You can give it to me, thanks.”
“——” Qiu Ziqing slightly pursed her lips and looked at her. But in the end, she said nothing and continued eating with her head buried.
Shen Wanying looked at Huo Cheng’s meal tray. He indeed had finished eating his dish. “Do you like seafood mushrooms?”
“Mhm.” Huo Cheng nodded. “I quite like them.”
“All right, then let’s make a mushroom soup on the field trip and put all kinds of mushrooms in it,” she suggested.
“Yes, let’s do that!” Zhao Yimeng mulled it over. “You can also stew the pork ribs in the soup, ah~ I’m dying to eat it already.”
As Qiu Ziqing wasn’t in their class, she couldn’t join the discussion among the trio. She was just like an outsider listening in.
