Almost an hour later, Yang QiQi assumed that those two might really have perished together. Or the white python killed the giant eagle and didn’t take her, this ‘little shrimp’ to heart. The three berries shouldn’t be important to it. Maybe the white python just happened to pass her the fruits before. If it really wanted to eat them, it wouldn’t throw them at her and would’ve swallowed them already. Of course, there is another possibility that the white python was too injured to chase her.

No matter what, Yang QiQi’s hanging heart was gradually relieved as time passed.

So, she was finally willing to stop for a rest. She ate two fish and then stuffed the berries into her mouth.

The skin of the berry was very thin, and the flesh inside was tender and sweet. A beautiful sensation bloomed from the tip of her tongue. Even the fishy aftertaste due to the raw fish meat was dispelled, leaving her mouth full of a pleasant fragrance.

She had never tasted such a delicacy before, so she couldn’t help but become interested in the fruit. She put the remaining two in her palm to observe carefully.

They were a beautiful purple-red, and the golden yellow flesh inside could be almost seen through the translucent shiny skin. The fragrance was not very strong, but the light smell was very attractive.

Yang QiQi tilted her head, showing a rare moment of hesitation.

Should she swallow them now, or store them for later?

This was a problem.

In the end, she still stuffed them both into her mouth.

On one hand, she was still thirsty and just one fruit could not quench her thirst. On the other hand, she didn’t know what else was waiting for her in this strange place. It would be easier to deal with something if her physical strength increased even a little more. The most important point was that she had no pockets or even clothes now. She had to hold the soft fruit in her hand, so it would be crushed when she fell into danger. Therefore it’s better to eat it now than to waste it like that.

She raised her head to look at the sun again, silently calculated the time she had spent from the lake to the travel to her present location and discovered that the length of the day here was about the same as the earth.

It was about 3:30 in the afternoon, and if the sun went down at about 6 o’clock, she had only two and a half hours left.

There was little hope of finding people in such a short period of time (if there were humans here at all), but anyway, she had to find a relatively safe place to spend the night.

Originally, she wanted to find a big tree to climb up. After all, in such an old and dense forest, that was the easiest to find. But when she remembered that the white python had been hanging from the tree before, she immediately abandoned the plan.

What a joke. Who knows how many big snakes are still there in this forest?

Therefore, it was best to find a small cave and block the entrance with a boulder before going to bed.

With this goal, she set off again.

Not long after she started starting, she felt her body start to heat up.

At first, she didn’t care too much. She just assumed that the sunshine in the afternoon was stronger and she felt hot after walking so much. But gradually, she realized something was wrong.

Her body was hot around her lower abdomen. It felt like a burning stove was placed there, and it only got hotter as time passed by.

She immediately thought of the three fruits.

‘Were those fruits toxic?’

She didn’t hate the white python’s vicious mind but blamed herself for being too careless.

Before, she tested the fish with ants before eating it, but this time she ate it directly. Can the strange things here be eaten at random?

This reminded her of a biblical story she saw in her family’s library when she was a child. It said that a serpent hanging from a tree tempted a woman to eat a red fruit. This red fruit was called the snake fruit, which was also the origin of Adam’s apple in adult men.

( T/N: The author uses ‘ 蛇果 ’ which is a type of apple.)

‘Do creatures like snakes like to lure others with fruits?’

She smiled bitterly and touched her smooth throat. She didn’t grow Adam’s apple but was about to be burned to death by the fire in her lower abdomen.

Yang QiQi felt her whole body was hot enough to be smoking. She sat down weakly leaning against the nearby tree as she could no longer move. Yang QiQi greedily enjoyed the cool breeze while looking at the densely covered forest.

She raised her hand with difficulty, trying to fan herself in an attempt to cool the fire.

“Not enough, not enough ah…” she murmured.

‘I thought I was a scourge that could last for thousands of years, but I didn’t expect to die in this world so easily. Without a person to even bury her body. However, it’s almost the same as ending up in the belly of a fish in the deep sea or getting torn into pieces by a beast’s teeth in this dense forest. Therefore, there is nothing to regret.’

This was Yang QiQi’s last thought before she fell into a coma.

Just after she closed her eyes, a young man walked out from the shadows in the direction she came along. He walked to her and stood still. After watching quietly for a while, he bent down and stretched out his hand to gently outline the arc of her lips with a smile with his index finger.

“What a glutton.” His voice was cold and magnetic as he gently hugged her. “Saintess fruit… How can you possibly eat three of them together? Now, you will suffer.”

Author’s Note on the naming of ‘Saintess Fruit’: I am incompetent in naming, but the name is still very appropriate considering the role of those fruits.
