Returning to the room, I stopped him from trying to move me from the wheelchair to the bed.
"Baudi, I want to try moving it myself for a bit. I’m sure I can move this wheelchair, right?"
At my words, he froze for a moment before nodding with a smile. Hmm, is there something wrong if I try to move it?
"Of course you can move it. Just, you don’t have much muscle, you know."
Oh, I see.
Indeed, I’m not just slender; I’m practically skin and bones.
"Anyway, I want to try. Do you know how to do it?"
"Sure, sure. First, you need to slide this brake outwards. Can you do that?"
I tried to mimic what he showed me...
"Gr... nu, nu, nu... It’s so stiff."
"Really? Let me see—no, it’s not that stiff."
Avoiding my hand, he demonstrated again, and I tried once more with both hands, using all my strength to release the brake.
"Got it! I did it!"
I thought my fingers would break, but I managed somehow. I wonder if it could be a bit looser for safety reasons.
"Great, you did it. Now, you just need to turn this part next to the wheel with your hand."
"Ah, I see. So the structure hasn’t changed much. Like this! H... nnnn... It’s not moving."
"Purely a matter of strength, I’m afraid, miss."
That’s true.
It’s not budging at all.
"It would be great if I could use a body-strengthening spell."
He scratched his head, and I had a sudden realization.
"Magic? Huh? Eeeehh?"
Magic, magic—there’s a memory of it! Wow, magic, like the kind Harry Potter uses?
This is so exciting!
But...
"What’s body strengthening?"
Even in Reimi’s memories, it’s not very clear.
"It’s a spell that knights and soldiers often use. It’s a bit different from pure magic, but it uses magic power to strengthen the body. You can use it on your whole body or just a part, like to make your legs move faster."
"Make my legs move faster... In my case, would it increase my arm strength?"
"Arm strength, grip strength, and basically your upper body. The wider the area, the more magic power it consumes, so it’s more efficient to focus it on a specific part."
"Magic power has a limit? You can’t use as much as you want?"
"Of course. It varies a lot from person to person. Commoners have less, and nobles have more, but even among nobles, there’s a big difference."
"Can you tell how much you have? If it’s a lot or a little?"
"Using it, you can eventually sense your limit. But, as a noble lady, you probably don’t have much opportunity to use it, so you might not know."
Noble ladies are usually pampered and don’t do much physical activity.
"But I can use magic, right? If I can, I should be able to move this wheelchair with a body-strengthening spell, right?"
Brilliant idea! I even thought about using magic to fly, but Reimi’s memories didn’t have that spell. Well, her memories are a bit scattered, so maybe she just didn’t know.
"To learn that spell, you have to go to the Royal Magic Academy, right?"
"Magic school! Could it be Hogwarts?"
"Where’s that? No, I mean the Royal Magic Academy, the school that all noble children must attend."
He emphasized the word "must," so I definitely have to go!
"So it’s compulsory education. If I go there, can I learn magic?"
"Yeah, that’s right. So, are you giving up on moving it yourself?"
"I’m giving up! It won’t budge at all."
I tried one last time with all my strength, but it didn’t move, so I decided to give up for today. I’m pretty... actually, quite exhausted.
Reimi really has no stamina.
"Good effort is enough. Let’s move you to the bed."
"Okay, thank you."
I wrapped my arms around his neck as he lifted me and placed me on the bed, then took off my shoes neatly. Oh, he’s so handsome.
Still, it’s smoother to move this way rather than stiffening up like a board. I understand why Reimi gets stiff, though.
It’s impossible not to be nervous when your crush carries you princess-style.
"Thank you, Baudi. Can I call you again if I want to move?"
"Of course, anytime."
He cheerfully agreed and pushed the wheelchair out of the room. He could have left it, but the room is a bit cramped.
Well, magic memories, magic memories.
I need to focus to open the memory drawer and recall the details.
"Ugh... No, it’s not coming to me."
I pressed my index finger to my forehead and tried to dig through my memories, but nothing about how to use magic came up.
However, I know that magic is involved in kitchen utensils, and that lights are lit with magical devices. I also know that in the capital, fireplaces are heated with magic instead of wood for fire safety, which I learned from a conversation with my father.
We were quite close.
I fell back onto the bed, lying flat and looking up at the ceiling, and before I knew it, I had fallen asleep from the exhaustion of trying to move the wheelchair.
Really, Reimi has no stamina at all...
