Chapter 6

How long had I been asleep? When I came to, I was lying properly in bed, with a blanket covering me.

It must have been Baudy, how embarrassing to not even notice being moved.

The unfamiliar ceiling above me, yet it felt strangely familiar.

Have Reimi and I become one person? I don’t really understand, but...

I held my hand up in front of my eyes.

An unfamiliar yet well-known slender hand. I don’t know if it’s due to lack of nutrition or a physical trait, but it’s a bit rough. With long fingers, it seems suited for playing the piano.

Rubbing my cold fingertips together, they warm up a little. My basal body temperature must be low.

“Such a lack of stamina, really.”

After all, I just changed clothes and ate a meal, and I was so tired I fell asleep.

This is bad, especially since I’m still young. As I get older, my stamina will naturally decline!

In my teens, I never had to consider “stamina” for anything. In my early twenties, I could feel the fatigue from all-nighters, but I could manage. However, once I entered my late twenties, I became acutely aware of the decline in my stamina.

“Ugh...! Really, I need to improve things now. If I’m like this in my teens, I’ll only get worse!”

I tried to sit up abruptly but couldn’t, so I pushed myself up with my arms. I really have no muscles! No arm strength, no abs!

“If I don’t have it, I’ll just have to build it. The same goes for knowledge; I lack so much information! What have I been living for?!”

Since I can’t even manage strength training, I’ll start with stretching.

I stretched my shoulders, rotated my neck, and loosened up my stiff upper body. Ah, I’m so stiff, it’s almost amusing.

Still, though.

I don’t really care about other people, but Reimi is both someone else and not. I can get angry at her as much as I want.

Really! Just moping around and crying all the time, it’s like she’s waiting for legs to grow!

You don’t have what you don’t have! Then think about what you can do.

How can you just stop thinking, you fool!

If there’s magic, maybe there’s a spell to fly. Then, even without legs, it wouldn’t be a problem.

If there are wheelchairs, there might be crutches too, no, there must be.

Then, I can move around on my own. It would be nice to go out with that handsome guy in a wheelchair, but it would get suffocating if it’s always like that.

And eventually, I want prosthetic legs.

Even with crutches, it’s hard to balance on one leg.

And the appearance. I don’t care, but people who see me will, right? It’s a hassle. It’s better to hide it to avoid trouble.

I don’t think I can get high-performance prosthetics like in the original world, but as long as they look like legs, it should be fine since this world seems to avoid showing bare legs.

While warming up my body with stretching, I looked around the room.

It’s about the same size as the living room in my apartment.

Around eight tatami mats? The built-in bookshelf on the wall has only one row of Reimi’s favorite books. All romance novels.

Wait, no textbooks? No magic manuals?

“Hmm, hmm...”

Recalling my memories... Ah, she threw them away, thinking she didn’t need them, and quit the private tutor her father arranged for her in a fit of self-destructive behavior.

Reimi didn’t need them, but I do!

By the way, there are no compulsory primary or secondary schools, but there are magic schools. You can use magic after entering a magic school.

You can use magic after some kind of ritual, I see. I thought about it while doing a twisting stretch, but I still don’t understand.

Why doesn’t Reimi care about the details? Is it because it’s normal in this world? No, even so...

“Anyway, let’s put aside gathering information for now and focus on improving my stamina.”

My upper body is warmed up, so next is my legs. I need to do something about these matchstick legs.

I crawled on the bed to the desk nearby. I want to try standing up.

Maybe it’s Reimi’s influence, but I’m really scared! But I can do it!

I put my feet on the floor and firmly placed my hands on the desk—

“Hup!”

With a shout, I lifted my hips off the bed.

“I, I can stand.”

Still, I’m clinging to the desk, but the view from standing up feels very bright.

The view from the window in front of the desk is brighter and more vibrant than I remember.

When I saw a bird perched on a small tree in the garden, a tear involuntarily ran down my cheek.

Ah, right, Reimi.

Since then, your vision has been like it had a gray filter, making the world’s colors dull.

The blue sky and green trees are so dazzling, Reimi.
