Chapter 3 of 10

Chapter 3

2 min read458 words

The book mentions Zhong Fu, Liu Yi, and the Huang family of Yangdi.

Zhong Fu should have been the Governor of Yingchuan in the fifth year of Zhongping. The event described in the book should have taken place in the fifth year of Zhongping, but it is written as if it happened earlier. However, this does not affect the plot.

Additionally, there is an issue with the punctuation.

The book mentions Yin Xiu and others, which is sourced from the commentary of the "Records of the Three Kingdoms" citing Xie Cheng's "Book of the Later Han": "Yin Xiu of Nanyang served as the Governor of Yingchuan, dedicated to promoting virtuous and talented individuals. He recommended Zhang Zhongfang as a model official, appointed Zhong Yao as the Chief Clerk, Xun Yu as the Chief Secretary, Zhang Li as the Chief Recorder, Du You as the Chief of Criminal Affairs, Xun You as a filial and clean official, and Guo Tu as a government officer, to bring glory to the imperial court." The editions of the "Records of the Three Kingdoms" published by Zhonghua Book Company are punctuated this way, and I believe the meaning is: "Yin Xiu appointed Zhong Yao and others as officials."

I recently read Mr. Zhou Jian's article "Chronicle of Events in Yingchuan in the Sixth Year of Zhongping" from Xuchang University. He believes that this sentence should be re-punctuated as: "He recommended Zhong Yao as the Chief Clerk, Xun Yu as the Chief Secretary, Zhang Li as the Chief Recorder, Du You as the Chief of Criminal Affairs, Xun You as a filial and clean official, and Guo Tu as a government officer." I think this makes a lot of sense. If this is the case, then Yin Xiu took office as the Governor of Yingchuan in the sixth year of Zhongping, because Xun Yu was recommended as a filial and clean official in that year. Looking back at the book, it can be revised accordingly, just by changing the names of the governor and the chief clerk, etc. However, even if the names are not changed, it seems to have little impact on the main storyline, at most changing the interactions with Zhong Yao and others from official settings to private ones. I would like to hear everyone's opinions. If the majority say to revise it, I will find time to do so. If everyone thinks it's fine as it is, then I won't change it.

I have a poor memory, and there are so many famous people and stories from the end of the Han Dynasty that I am bound to make mistakes or omissions. Please feel free to criticize and correct me, thank you.
