Bai Hongbo struggled up from the bed to have a look at the document. Intuition told him that something was wrong.
Du Meihua tried to stop him but was pushed away.
“Don’t listen to that son of a bitch. It’s not real.” She yelled, pouncing on Bai Weijin to grab the paper.
Bai Weijin shoved her off.
“Are you stupid enough to think I only have one copy? Even if you tear it off, there are still backups.” She looked at Du Meihua mockingly.
Du Meihua who could always get what she wanted now was at a total loss, since she could do nothing to redeem the situation. The content came as an awful shock to Bai Hongbo.
While they were arguing, Bai Hongbo took the document, going over it, and his hands began to tremble.
A slap.
Bai Hongbo hit Du Meihua’s face with all his strength and sank into the bed.
Du Meihua’s cheek soon swelled up and reddened.
“It’s not like that. It’s fake…”. Du Meihua covered her face with both hands and muttered. She was scared to death, for Bai Hongbo would definitely not let her off.
The content was nothing more than the evil deeds Du Meihua had done to Bai’s Group these years.
Bai Hongbo never figured out why Bai’s Group, an originally large and prosperous enterprise when he took over it, became more and more depressed and finally turned into a shell company.
It turned out that Du Meihua had been embezzling its fund to benefit herself.
It was her that caused many of the group cooperation and projects to fizzle out with the very eye to seeking personal gains so that she could live a good life whatever would happen in the future.
What she had done was more than that.
Bai Hongbo always wanted a son, yet Du Meihua killed their baby years ago.
Just in order to set Bai Weijin up.
After being told her pregnancy might end in miscarriage, Du Meihua went to the doctor to have an abortion and claimed it was an accident.
The document included some of her medical checks. Du Meihua couldn’t figure out how Bai Weijin found them after she destroyed all the evidence.
Besides, there was some other evidence against her, making Bai Hongbo even want to strangle the wicked woman.
“You son of a bitch!” Bai Hongbo flushed with fury, his chest puffing out.
As for the content, some was with conclusive proof while some not. Bai Weijin was always good at fathoming people’s thought. With the hard evidence, Bai Hongbo would not doubt the authenticity of other items.
Du Meihua dared not defend herself, let alone asking for his property.
The evidence was enough to convict her.
Bai Weijin didn’t stop Du Meihua, letting the latter run away. Whenever she planned to punish the woman, it was a piece of cake to send her to jail.
Bai Weijin looked at Bai Hongbo who was gasping for air.
“What did the doctor say?” Bai Weijin would certainly not pat him on the back to smooth his breath as a normal daughter would. After all, Bai Hongbo had made many unforgivable mistakes and hurt her mom a lot.
“I’ll be all right after days’ rest.” Bai Hongbo replied slowly.
“You know I’m not talking about this.” Bai Weijin looked into Bai Hongbo’s eyes, making him unable to evade the topic.
Bai Hongbo sighed, “Nothing can escape your attention. When do you know that?”
“Just now.”
When Bai Hongbo said he had given all his properties to her, Bai Weijin was shocked for a moment, but soon she realized there must be something wrong.
After the betrayal of Du Meihua, Bai Hongbo might feel a little guilty of his past wrongdoing, but he was still a selfish man at heart.
Painfully familiar with his temperament, Bai Weijin had no reason to believe Bai Hongbo would be so selfless to give away all his property.
He was well aware that Bai Weijin hated the guts of Bai family and would not support him in the future.
The reason behind his act was that he didn’t want Du Meihua and Bai Yinya to get a penny of his belongings. But it was far from enough. There must be another reason.
Bai Hongbo might have no chance to squander his wealth.
“I’ve had one foot in the grave, so the stuff is of no use to me. I owed a lot to you and your mom, I wanna make up for it.”
Bai Hongbo looked out of the window.
Bai Weijin found him suffering from mental exhaustion the moment she came in. The collapse of Bai family and the betrayal of Du Meihua did deal a shattering blow to Bai Hongbo.
Now he had a sallow complexion.
“It’s useless to be kind to me now. You can never make up for what you’ve done to Mom and me.” Bai Weijin said in a dry voice.
It she were anyone else, she would have been moved to tears by Bai Hongbo’s words. Unfortunately, Bai Weijin was not easy to be touched.
Only she knew how she and her mother had eked out an existence for years and what a miserable life she lived after her mom died.
Bai Hongbo stared at Bai Weijin and finally found what a failure he was.
At the end of life, all the fame and wealth were gone. His wife betrayed him, and two daughters hated his guts.
“Please accept it. It is the only thing I can leave to you.” The reason why he went to visit Grandma Gu also lay in his yearning for keeping the stuff of Bai family.
Once upon a time, he was so blinded by Bai Yinya and her mother that he totally neglected Bai Weijin.
It crossed his mind that he once had a liking for her mom, the gentle and kind woman, but did not resist the temptation in the end.
And this daughter… Bai Hongbo looked at Bai Weijin, who, in fact, closely resembled him instead of her mom.
He once thought of grooming her to take his place but then gave up the idea when his interests were taken into account. But now he came to realize money was nothing.
When Bai Weijin was born, Bai Hongbo also felt she was the apple of his eye and let her ride on his neck.
‘She might forget all of these,’ Bai Hongbo thought with a laugh, as if he was mocking himself.
“I would accept neither Bai’s Group nor the house. My painful memories were all about them.” Bai Weijin couldn’t endure seeing him behave this way.
Witnessing the terrible fate befall Bai Hongbo, Bai Weijin didn’t have the heart to give him more punishment.
She just kept telling herself men spoke kindly in the face of death, so she didn’t need to believe what he said.
