At the sight of his brother’s angry face, Gu Yeyu took Bai Weijin by the hand, walking inside.
There was a subtle atmosphere when Bai Weijin approached Grandma Gu.
Gu Yeyu kept winking at her sister-in-law when the old lady was looking at the latter.
“Good child, you’ve suffered a lot.” Grandma Gu heaved a sigh, holding Bai Weijin’s hand.
When Gu Yeze entered the room, what met his eyes was Gu Yeyu’s smiling face.
Gu Yeze struck the silly girl on the head.
Gu Yeyu let out a cry, but she dared not hit her brother back.
Grandma Gu and Bai Weijin seemed to take no notice of it.
“I’ve heard about how you grew up. Yeze always kept things about you from me, so I didn’t know it until the recent days. My poor child.”
If Gu Yeze tried to hide something, then nobody would learn about it.
Apologetic about that, Bai Weijin shook her head, “Sorry, Grandma, I shouldn’t have held anything back!”
Grandma Gu patted Bai Weijin on the hand, saying, “Yeyu has told me many things about you. With us backing you up, no one can bully you.”
Bai Weijin was touched beyond words.
Both Gu Yeze and his family treated her as kindly as possible. Now the good days more than made up for the bad ones.
Gu Yelin and his wife were not here today.
They were said to have attended a meeting. Without the two annoying people, everyone had fun at dinner.
Suddenly something occurred to Grandma Gu. She turned away to look at Gu Yeyu.
“You’ve caused a lot of trouble for Jiran recently. Why not invite him over to thank him?”
Bai Weijin paused, watching how Gu Yeyu would react.
Beyond her expectations, the girl gave a natural nod.
“I’m not forgetting that. He’s been busy these days. I’ll thank him when he’s not.”
Grandma Gu gave her a glare.
“I know you. You are always fooling around and must have forgotten that.”
Gu Yeyu immediately complained loudly, greatly amusing the others.
When Bai Weijin watched her with interest, Gu Yeze picked up his chopsticks and hit her head. Bai Weijin threw him an angry glance.
When could he get out of the habit of knocking on others’ head?
“What are you laughing about?”
Bai Weijin couldn’t make heads or tails of his sudden question. ‘Can’t I be happy about Gu Yeyu getting over it?’
Grandma Gu opened her mouth.
“Yeze, you’ve been married for months. When are you gonna have a baby?”
Her words made Bai Weijin blush.
“We’ve been working together.” Gu Yeze retained his composure, taking a mouthful of his meal.
Annoyed, Bai Weijin kicked him in the leg. What did he mean by ‘working together’? How could he say that in front of Grandma Gu?
Gu Yeze looked at Bai Weijin innocently.
“Then when will I have a great-grandchild?” Elder people would inevitably mention the topic. Wise as Grandma Gu was, she could hardly act contrary to common practice.
“Ha-Ha, we’ll try our best, Grandma.” Bai Weijin gave a wry smile and signaled for Gu Yeyu to change a topic in the meanwhile.
Yet the girl pretended to not receive her signal, ready to see some fun.
Bai Weijin gritted her teeth. What a little ingrate!
Maid Wu chimed in.
“Ever since you got married, your grandmother has been looking forward to a great-grandchild.”
Faced with the expectant look of Grandma Gu, Bai Weijin didn’t know how to refuse but kept smiling.
She was unprepared to have a baby so soon.
It took a while for Grandma Gu and Maid Wu to end the topic. Suddenly, Gu Yeze came closer to her holding his bowl.
Intuition told Bai Weijin he would say something she didn’t feel like listening to, so she moved her chair to one side.
Gu Yeze came closer, and Bai Weijin moved a little farther. They kept moving until both of them were in close proximity to where Grandma Gu sat.
Bai Weijin growled, “What are you doing? Have your meal!”
Fortunately, the table was large enough so that their voice could not be heard by Grandma Gu.
Gu Yeze swallowed the last bit of his meal just like a gentleman did, though he spoke in a non-gentleman way. Bai Weijin was glad to have no food in her mouth. Otherwise, she would be choked to death.
“How are you gonna try your best, my dear wife?”
Having foreseen what he would say, Bai Weijin gave Gu Yeze a kick. With one leg painful, Gu Yeze maintained his composure.
The woman behaved more and more casually in front of him.
Now she even dared to hit and kick him from time to time, about which Gu Yeze was not annoyed at all. Instead, he was glad to see that.
“Shut up.” Bai Weijin had a sort of premonition at the sight of his mysterious smile.
“Uh? When will we try?”
Gu Yeze stared at her burning cheeks, asking mischievously.
Grandma Gu was chatting happily with Maid Wu, but Gu Yeyu didn’t miss their conversation, smilingly watching the “play”. She even forgot to have her meal.
“Gu Yeze, shut it!” Bai Weijin yelled through gritted teeth.
“Grandma has been waiting for us to have a baby.” Gu Yeze continued to tease her.
Bai Weijin crimsoned and then strangely calmed down. She gave a snort and turned away to look at Gu Yeze.
Gu Yeze paused.
“My effort alone is far from enough. You need to try your best, Mr. Gu.”
Gu Yeze choked on some vegetables.
“I have no idea why I’m still not pregnant. Maybe you should work much harder.” As soon as she finished it, Bai Weijin turned around, swallowing her food.
Gu Yeyu noticed her brother’s face fell after that.
Frightened, she immediately dropped her gaze and hastened to finish her meal.
“Bai Wei-jin.” Gu Yeze lowered his voice and pronounced every word pretty clearly. There was immediately an intense atmosphere.
“I don’t mind letting you feel my effort.” His voice was even clearer, making Bai Weijin shiver with fear.
