Despite that, Bai Weijin could do nothing but persuading Gu Yeyu in private, for she knew Chu Jiran was as obstinate as her.

If he didn’t want something, no one could talk him round.

“Tan Xin was back. Do you have any idea of it?”

Bai Weijin looked up at him.

Chu Jiran sighed, “Seems you do.”

“You know her?” Bai Weijin looked suspiciously at Chu Jiran. Intuition told her he would tell her something that mattered.

Chu Jiran nodded and continued, “Two years ago, Aunt Zhou wanted Tan Xin to be her daughter-in-law. She is not as simple as she looks. You… you’d better beware.”

His eyes were fixed on Bai Weijin’s sad face. Her unhappiness might have escaped Gu Yeyu’s attention, but not his.

This just confirmed Bai Weijin’s suspicions. Born into a prestigious family, Tan Xin was attractive to any man in terms of both appearance and character. The woman looked fragile yet never gave up on what she wanted.

“Tan Xin has a liking for Yeze. Yeze thinks highly of her, but that’s all. Her family background is too complex for him. Being smart enough, Tan Xin didn’t pursue Yeze but tried to move him for years.” Chu Jiran gave Bai Weijin a worried look while speaking.

Women adept at scheming were difficult to deal with. Moreover, she would stop at nothing to get what she wanted, of which Chu Jiran was well aware.

Smart as Bai Weijin was, she tended to act aboveboard without disguise. Despite her experience in battling with her stepmother and stepsister, Tan Xin was a lot more calculating and harder to tackle.

Chu Jiran was worried about Bai Weijin.

“That’s all? I’m afraid he feels more than that.” Bai Wei muttered under her breath.

“What? asked Chu Jiran. Her voice was so low that he didn’t hear it.

“Nothing.”

Chu Jiran stared at Bai Weijin, when a trace of sadness crossed his face. If he were Gu Yeze, he would shield her from any danger, giving nobody a chance to hurt her.

Unfortunately, she was married when he knew her.

“You must know more about her. Tell me, please.” Judging from his look, Bai Weijin knew Chu Jiran hadn’t finished what he was saying.

Gu Yeyu didn’t come back. Chu Jiran leaned against the railings, as if thinking about where to start.

“She would like to be back when Yeze and you prepared for your wedding,” recalled Chu Jiran.

“However, she had a lot of work to do then and couldn’t get back until these days.”

Bai Weijin thought for a while before asking, “So, what’s the purpose of her return?”

“What do you think?” Chu Jiran asked instead.

They exchanged glances, and Bai Weijin instantly understood everything.

The reason why Tan Xin didn’t return home until now was not that she forgot Gu Yeze. Instead, in order to live here for long, she must have tried her best to deal with businesses there.

“She’s an ambitious woman who has infinite patience. I once saw her achieve her ends by hook or by crook.”

Bai Weijin gave him a meaningful look.

“They all consider Tan Xin gentle and delicate. Why do you describe her like this?” Bai Weijin teased.

Chu Jiran raised his eyebrows.

“Maybe I can see what others cannot?”

Bai Weijin finally loosened up.

“Where’s Yeyu?” The conversation came to an end, and Bai Weijin realized Gu Yeyu hadn’t come back. More than 15 minutes had passed since the girl went to buy some drinks.

Chu Jiran also stood upright.

They looked around but didn’t find her at all. Gu Yeyu couldn’t go missing in the day, but considering that Chu Jiran was present, no one knew for sure where she would go when she felt down.

They looked for Gu Yeyu along the way.

She was found sitting on a chair next to the vending machine, with a bottle of water in her hand. Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran let out a sigh of relief.

“I get to go. Take care of her.” Bai Weijin looked at Chu Jiran. She believed Gu Yeyu needed a talk with Chu Jiran presently.

After all, he was the very cause of her unhappiness.

On hearing what she said, Chu Jiran appeared to be overwhelmed by grief, since the one he liked now deliberately left him with another girl.

He pondered for long before replying, “Ok, I will.”

Exhausted, Bai Weijin arrived home. She glanced at the parking floor, only to find that Gu Yeze’s car was still there.

‘He didn’t go out?’

Whenever they had quarrels, Gu Yeze would leave the house for several days.

His shoes remained unused at the front door.

Bai Weijin pretended not to see that, going upstairs and opening the room door. Gu Yeze was not in their bedroom. Some muffled sounds came from his study.

It seemed that he was busy working in the study. Bai Weijin closed the door, and before long Gu Yeze pushed the door open.

With a gloomy face, he took off his clothes and went to bed, without even glancing at Bai Weijin.

Gu Yeze closed his eyes. Bai Weijin eyed him in silence. Preparatory to the company’s centenary celebration, Gu Yeze was busy these days, in case his grandmother would be disappointed.

Thus, he hadn’t had much sleep for several nights. Bai Weijin thought a president’s life was about car racing, drinking, playing golf or dating girls until she married Gu Yeze, for he was always fully occupied with work.

There were dark circles under his eyes.

Bai Weijin gently shook her head when she almost lost herself in the gaze. She came up to tidy her clothes away.

Gu Yeze was sleeping so soundly that Bai Weijin couldn’t drag a piece of her clothes from beneath him.

“Wanna move to another room?” Gu Yeze suddenly opened his eyes. His eyes bloodshot, he was not at all sleepy.

Annoyed, Bai Weijin took the opportunity to pull out her clothes without a word.

The room was in a mess, and Gu Yeze didn’t like domestic service. Bai Weijin had to tidy it up herself.

“Does it have anything to do with you?” She made him angry on purpose.

There was a fierce look on Gu Yeze’s face, as if he was to pounce on Bai Weijin next second. After a long while, he closed his eyes again and turned around.

They slept back to back this night.

Though no one fell asleep, both made no utterance. The day broke.

Bai Weijin finally felt sleepy and closed her eyes.
