Pregnant women were vulnerable to coldness. Shortly after the travel, Bai Weijin came to the hospital. She’s only wearing a summer jacket and shivered with cold.

Chu Jiran immediately took off his coat, draped it over Bai Weijin, and helped her forward.

Bai Weijin felt the warmth around her body and a glow in her heart. His considerateness deeply touched her, as it did in their journey.

The examination was around ten minutes away. While they were waiting, Chu Jiran fixed Bai Weijin with a serious stare, saying, “Weijin, relax when you do the check. It will be finished in a moment.”

His stern look amused Bai Weijin. A small laugh escaped her, and then she just burst into laughter.

“I know it, Jiran. I am not a child. Don’t worry, it’s nothing but a small examination. I’ll be back very soon, and I’m not nervous at all.”

Chu Jiran felt embarrassed. Actually, it was he who was nervous about it. What Bai Weijin reassured him. He breathed a sigh of relief.

Bai Weijin looked at the clock against the wall. It was time for examination. Bai Weijin walked in.

Chu Jiran was also asked to do a check, and he went another way to do a blood test.

When Bai Weijin’s examination finished, Chu Jiran also came out, both with a report in one hand. They were aware of what the reports said even before they exchanged them.

Relaxed, Bai Weijin heaved a long sigh. She stretched, and walked outside with Chu Jiran.

At this moment, they caught a glimpse of a familiar figure coming from the corner.

Tall and slender, Tan Xin moved in a graceful manner in high-heeled shoes. Her beautiful hair looked shiny and smooth. As she walked by, a smell of her usual perfume floated across the corridor.

Perplexed, Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran both gave her a suspicious glance.

Tan Xin also noticed them. She soon hid her nervousness, flashed them a smile and greeted them, “Hello, Jiran. Hello, Weijin. What a coincidence to meet you here. I’m feeling ill today, and thus come to do a physical check.”

While she talked, Tan Xin covered her stomach with one hand. Her movement looked so graceful and natural that one could find no fault with it.

Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran exchanged glances. They felt something was wrong but couldn’t tell what gave them such a feeling.

…

“Yeze, are you here?”

Tan Xin came to Gu’s Group to ask for Gu Yeze. Before she entered the room, her soft voice came from outside as well as a knock on the door.

Gu Yeze was browsing papers by his desk. He raised his eyelids when hearing Tan Xin’s voice, saying, “Come in”.

With an air of elegance and confidence as usual, Tan Xin turned the handle and went in. She walked towards Gu Yeze while shutting the door behind her.

Gu Yeze still buried himself in his work, without raising his head at all. He had no idea why Tan Xin came here at this time. It was too early to have dinner.

“What’s the matter?”

He asked in a dry voice, just for courtesy’s sake. In fact, he was not at all curious about the reason why she came.

Tan Xin didn’t care about it. With a polite smile on her face, she flashed a sarcastic glance while taking from her bag a tightly wrapped paper-like thing.

Gu Yeze looked up at Tan Xin, only to find that she suddenly wore a sad look.

He regarded the thing with suspicion but didn’t take it.

Tan Xin opened her mouth in a seemingly despondent voice, “These are examination reports for Weijin and Jiran.”

Completely stupefied by what she said, Gu Yeze grabbed it, tore off the seal and drew what’s inside. His eyes swept over the two reports, one with name of Bai Weijin and the other, Chu Jiran.

The contents left Gu Yeze speechless with rage, his heart broken.

‘I should have realized it when I catch sight of the expression on Tan Xin’s face. What a fool I am!’ The way how Chu Jiran got along with Bai Weijin occurred to him. ‘The baby’s father is Chu Jiran, I should have known it long before.’

Tan Xin saw his pained expression and thoughtfully closed the door behind her, considering that he might want nobody’s presence on such occasion.

A happy smile spread across her face, as well as a faintly smug look.

‘It may never occur to him that I’ve bought off a doctor to fake the reports, I guess.’

By the way, the doctor’s greedy eyes at the sight of money were really sick to her stomach.

…

As drunk as a lord, Gu Yeze kept shouting something like ‘Bai Weijin, you a liar!’ while staggering out.

He got into the car, put a key into the lock and started the engine. The car sped along the road crookedly. Luckily, it didn’t hit into any vehicle.

Gu Yeze parked his car outside Bai Weijin’s neighborhood. With a vacant look on his face, he got a hiccup and walked unsteadily, nearly bumping into passers-by across the sidewalk so that they all tried to avoid him.

Then he struggled up the stairs. After a narrow fall on the staircase, he finally made it to the floor where Bai Weijin lived. Instead of ringing the doorbell, he banged on the door, and there came a very loud noise.

Bai Weijin was confused. ‘Is there anyone nowadays who ignores the bell and chooses to thump on the door?
