Before she thought much, Bai Weijin walked to the door and opened it.
What greeted her were Gu Yeze’s red-rimmed eyes, which startled her. Before she figured out how to react, the man pounced on her suddenly.
She had to retreat and nearly fell to the ground.
“Tell me, Bai Weijin, tell me why…”
Gu Yeze gripped her hand, muttering under his breath. He said nothing crucial but just repeated it angrily.
Bai Weijin was frightened by his look. Also, she had no idea why he hurried here at midnight.
“What are you talking about? Let go!”
At this moment, Chu Jiran arrived. He pulled Gu Yeze’s hand away and came up, standing between Gu Yeze and Bai Weijin just like her protector.
He had come to visit Bai Weijin and heard they had a quarrel inside, so he rushed upstairs. As expected, the door was left unlocked.
He pushed the door open, only to find that Gu Yeze clutched Bai Weijin’s hand, while the latter was scared to death.
Chu Jiran immediately came up to see whether she and her baby were all right. He gave Bai Weijin a worried look, asking, “Is everything okay?”
Bai Weijin shook her head, though she was indeed scared by Gu Yeze.
At the sight of they being so close, Gu Yeze laughed out loud. ‘What a good match, a protector and his girl!’
He even felt it wrong to take the trip. The scene filled him with sadness and meanwhile, made him sober up. ‘I shouldn’t have come here.’
With no intention of seeing the two people care about each other, Gu Yeze immediately went downstairs without looking back. ‘Maybe separation is the best choice for us.’
…
Tan Xin stared at her luggage she had just packed, clasping a ticket tightly in her hand. Really and truly, she didn’t want to go.
So she came to Gu Yeze’s office again.
Gu Yeze was sitting by his desk, his brows knitted. The papers remained unopened.
Tan Xin regained her elegant manner when entering the room. Her eyes went watery as she approached Gu Yeze.
“Yeze, I’m going abroad.”
She choked with tears, as if seeking some comfort from the man.
Yet Gu Yeze, upset by what had happened at Bai Weijin’s home, was in no mood for any conversation. He even spared no glance at her, as if not hearing what she said.
Tan Xin hated to see his look. She clenched one corner of her dress and forced some tears, saying softly, “Yeze, I…”
Gu Yeze’s patience snapped. He smashed the pen on the desk and finally raised his head, shooting her an indifferent glance.
“It’s a good thing. You can leave now, cause I’m busy.”
His remark left Tan Xin numb with shock, her eyes agape. She’d like to say more, but finally gave up, at the sight of Gu Yeze’s darkening face.
Tan Xin stomped out with rage.
Gu Yeze watched her away expressionless. Then he sighed deeply, went downstairs and got into his car.
Looking out of the window, he’s getting more and more agitated. Gu Yeze landed a punch on the window and sank into the seat.
In a long while, he turned a key in the lock and drove home.
…
The moment he arrived, Gu Yeze sensed the strange atmosphere at home. He pushed the door open.
His parents were sitting in the living room waiting for him. His mother flashed him a smile, lovingly greeting him, “Yeze, nice to see you.”
Gu Yeze gave a nod and stepped upstairs. Somehow, he had a hunch that he should escape from here as soon as possible.
However, his mother stopped him.
“Yeze, wait a minute. We need to have a talk.”
Gu Yeze’s brows wrinkled. He managed to hide his impatience and sat down on the sofa without a word.
Having exchanging glances with her husband, his mother opened her mouth, “Yeze, now that you and Weijin got divorced, we are thinking about your remarriage.”
As soon as she mentioned the name, Gu Yeze clenched his fists and struggled to hold back his urge to leave here. He replied in an icy voice:
“I don’t want to remarry for now.”
The word infuriated his father, who instantly fixed his son with an angry stare.
“For now? Then when you’ll want to? Do you think I’m unaware…?”
His wife stopped him in time, “What are you doing? Can you be nice? He’s not the little boy he used to be.”
Her reproaches managed to quiet her husband down. He stopped telling his son off.
Gu Yeze gave a sneer. He looked at his parents as if watching a play.
“Anyway, this isn’t up to you.”
His father snorted in a determined manner.
“I make my own decision.”
Gu Yeze didn’t bother to argue with them. He said this and went upstairs straight.
“No way!”
His father flied into a rage. But for his wife who stopped him, he would even like to beat the unfilial son up.
Gu Yeze went upstairs, lying down on his bed. He felt worn out, for nothing had happened as he wished.
What he saw earlier suddenly came into mind. Gu Yeze smiled wryly.
