“Mr. Ji, then the tenth day of next month? A lucky day, isn’t it?” When the dinner party came to an end, Grandma Gu smilingly said to Ji Yongkang, sincere but not flattering.

Her natural and proper manner favorably impressed Ji Yongkang. Despite his ignorance of why his granddaughter resolved to marry Gu Yeze, he respected her wishes. And now, what he saw at Gu family finally made his mind at rest. Ji Yongkang gave a smile.

“I look forward to seeing a perfect wedding!” He shook Grandma Gu’s dry hand.

Gu Yeze also wore a smile on his face. He had every reason to be happy about the result, for Gu’s business could scale new heights after the wedding! Driven by commercial ambitions, he wasn’t aware of how he felt inside.

Half an hour after, news about their wedding broke. Everyone began to imagine how grand it would be.

“Baiqi, be a good boy. We can go home after I finish shopping! I’ll be quick.” Bai Weijin coaxed her son, with a lot of daily necessities beside her. Though Chu Jiran once suggested they live in his house, Bai Weijin didn’t want to trouble him, after all he’d done for her.

With stuff in her hand, Bai Weijin headed for the house she just rented, when the Gus and the Jis who walked out of a hotel together, talking and laughing, met her eyes.

The scene hurt Bai Weijin deeply. ‘They’ve been steady already? What’s the talk for? To discuss Gu Yeze and Ji Yun’s wedding?’ She thought to herself absent-mindedly.

————————

“You mean the child’s father is Gu Yeze? Nothing happened between Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran?” Having browsed through the document in her hand, Ji Yun looked up at Ji Lin and asked. Then a trace of smile played across her lips when a plan occurred to her.

“Yes, mama.” Ji Lin nodded, fixing Ji Yun with an affectionately pained look.

Ji Yun gave no reply but bowed her head, lost in thought. ‘What an incredible piece of luck!’

“Ji Lin, how about you…?” In a moment, Ji Yun came up with an idea. She whispered in Ji Lin’s ear.

On hearing what she said, Ji Lin knitted his brows, for he didn’t think it’s a good idea. But as always, he would comply with her request and tried his best not to let her down.

Time flied. It was two days before Bai Weijin went abroad. Also, before Gu Yeze and Ji Yun held the wedding ceremony. By now, Bai Weijin had resigned herself to the result.

“Bai Weijin, are you gonna flee?” Shi Qian somehow found Bai Weijin and said in a feigned sympathetic tone, though her remarks were dripping with sarcasm. ‘Who are you to have married into Gu family? You really think you’re a big shot?’

“Shi Qian, you’re not welcome in my home.” Bai Weijin’s voice was as cold as ice, and her countenance remained unchanged.

“Your home? Ha, you call this a home? You’re just one who fled in panic, aren’t you?” Her eyes sweeping across the room, Shi Qian was pretty satisfied with what she saw. ‘Powerful as you were, you wind up in a total mess!’ Despite her smugness, Shi Qian didn’t forget what made her come here today.

“You done?” Bai Weijin spared a glance at Shi Qian, flashed a smile, and snapped the door shut.

Shi Qian was exasperated. ‘Damn! How can she be so proud now?’

Bai Weijin squatted down, covering her eyes with one hand. ‘Why can’t I get rid of him at all?’ Moments later, she rose to her feet, walking outside. ‘It’s time to leave.’

“Baiqi!” What greeted Bai Weijin was an unfamiliar figure nipping away, with Gu Baiqi in his arms, before she fell into a faint. ‘Where’s he gonna take my son to?’ She reached out one hand in a vain attempt to catch him, and then lost consciousness.

“Baiqi!” Bai Weijin sat bolt upright from the bed, puffing and blowing.

Chu Jiran heard the noise and rushed over. He sat by the bed, holding Bai Weijin’s hand to bring her some comfort.

“Where’s my son?” Bai Weijin gripped Chu Jiran’s hand tightly and asked again in a trembling voice.

Under Bai Weijin’s intense gaze, Chu Jiran bowed his head and mumbled his apology, “Sorry…”

Bai Weijin suddenly loosened her grip, lifted the quilt and jumped out of bed. ‘No, I need to look for Baiqi. He’ll be scared without me! I have to.’ Her hand constantly trembling, Bai Weijin dared not even imagine where her son was and what he’d encounter. After all, he’s just around one month old!

“Weijin, I’ve sent my people to search for him! Don’t worry, okay?” Chu Jiran stopped Bai Weijin and said, though her reaction also threw him into panic. He was well aware of what Gu Baiqi meant to Bai Weijin, but now…

“Jiran, how can I not worry? Let me go, or I may hate your guts!” Bai Weijin turned to look at Chu Jiran, tears gushing from her eyes. She could think of nothing more than looking for her child.

“How are you gonna find him? There’s no clue for us, except you! What you need to do is to cooperate with us!” Chu Jiran clenched Bai Weijin’s arm, giving her no chance to leave.

Bai Weijin suddenly lost all her strength. ‘He’s right. How?’ Chu Jiran pulled her to the bedside and sat her down, waiting for her to regain her composure.

Being a mother was quite an amazing thing. In less than one minute, Bai Weijin calmed herself down, relating the whole story to Chu Jiran, with pain and fear, though.

Having learned about it, Chu Jiran looked more stony-faced than before. He patted Bai Weijin on the shoulder and hurried away, in an attempt to spot Gu Baiqi according to Bai Weijin’s description.

Bai Weijin walked several footsteps behind Chu Jiran. ‘I won’t stay here waiting!’

After one day’s exhaustive search, Chu Jiran and his people looked pretty weary, but they didn’t give up. Just now, they found a vital clue with which Gu Baiqi’s whereabouts could be traced.
