“Are you kidding me? I’ve told you only his biological parents are required! His mother’s here, but where’s dad?” The man gave a mocking smile and turned to Chu Jiran, “Are you? Dying for fatherhood, hmm?”
His remarks made Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran both change their countenance. ‘He knows. He knows everything.’ Fear came over Bai Weijin. She felt being watched and surveilled.
The man held Gu Baiqi up, saying to Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran, “Since you make a fool of me, how about I repay your kindness?” His eyes flashed with a trace of pity, but nearly unnoticeable.
Bai Weijin’s heart missed a skip. ‘My son!’ “Wait a minute! He’ll be here right now! Don’t hurt my baby!” snarled Bai Weijin. Actually, she was not sure whether Gu Yeze would come, but he must.
“Wait a minute?” The man glanced at his watch. “Well…Two minutes left. Given that you have three people, I can wait one more minute.” A playful smile played across his lips, and his hand kept moving up and down.
“Okay, okay!” Bai Weijin fixed her eyes closely at Gu Baiqi while reaching out one hand to pick up her mobile. ‘Three minutes is better than two.’
“Gu Yeze, could you come to Dream Factory now, please?” Bai Weijin’s voice was trembling. She had no idea that Gu Yeze was already on his way here.
Gu Yeze also found things weren’t quite right. He strode over at a faster pace. ‘What the hell is going on?’ Now that his people had yet to give him any report, Gu Yeze was totally unaware of it. He had no choice but to hurry over. “Okay.”
Bai Weijin breathed a sigh of relief. “He’ll be here soon. Hold on a second, please.” She begged the kidnapper, in the hope of playing for more time.
Chu Jiran was at a loss. ‘He wanted Baiqi’s biological father, but I’m not. What can I do now?’
That’s what Gu Yeze saw the moment he arrived. His pupils dilated, Gu Yeze marched towards Bai Weijin. Given his ignorance of what had happened, he did not speak but just looked around.
Bai Weijin grabbed Gu Yeze, a straw to clutch at for her, and yelled at the kidnapper, “He’s come. Don’t hurt my son! Whatever you want, I’ll give you!”
“Ha-ha, what a great fun!” The kidnapper burst into laughter and threw the baby in their direction.
The scene scared the three people to death. All hurried off to catch Gu Baiqi.
Finally, Gu Yeze managed to hold him. Unaware of his narrow escape from death, Gu Baiqi got the giggles.
“Ha-ha-ha, I start to wonder who the boy’s father is! Since I’ve returned him to you, you’re supposed to give me the money, aren’t you?” Gu Yeze’s expression had softened when Gu Baiqi smiled at him, yet now, his face darkened again.
In the blink of an eye, the kidnapper slipped down the rope and fetched the lockbox which Chu Jiran threw away so that he could reach out to catch Gu Baiqi. Before they realized what had happened, the kidnapper took to his heels with the box in his hand.
Bai Weijin spared no glance at him. Her mind was all on Gu Baiqi. She wanted to take him from Gu Yeze’s arms, but somehow, withdrew her hand halfway.
At the sight of her action, Gu Yeze threw Gu Baiqi straight into her arms. Yet the baby boy smilingly stared at Gu Yeze and tried to race into his embrace again.
A relieved smile spread over Bai Weijin’s face as she touched her baby. Tears were streaming down her cheeks.
All stood still. No sound could be heard except Bai Weijin’s cry.
“Bai Weijin, I have no time dawdling over it. You’d better give me an explanation for what the hell happened.” Gu Yeze agitatedly pulled his tie, saying to Bai Weijin.
Bai Weijin stopped crying, wiping her tears and replying, “You’ve seen the whole thing. I don’t think there’s any need for explanation.” Actually, she didn’t expect Gu Yeze to start with this.
“No need for explanation? Then tell me why I have to come and save your child? Why me?” Her indifference infuriated Gu Yeze. He grabbed hold of Bai Weijin’s shoulder and snarled.
“Why? I also want to know why! You should ask the kidnapper why he want you, an irrelevant person, to come!” What happened tonight got Bai Weijin confused. At Gu Yeze’s questioning, she retorted with a sneer.
“Hmm… An irrelevant person? Bai Weijin, you know what? This child is a disgrace to my family. I should have stayed at home and waited for him to be killed!” What Bai Weijin said made Gu Yeze see red. He pinched her chin and fixed her with a hard look, saying angrily.
“Gu Yeze! You…” Before Bai Weijin finished, Gu Yeze pushed her onto the ground and strode off.
Bai Weijin gazed at his receding figure with tearful eyes. Strangely, a smile spread across her face. At last she burst into laughter.
Chu Jiran felt sorry for her. He came up, hesitant about how to give her some comfort.
Finally, it was Gu Baiqi’s cry that woke Bai Weijin up. Having lulled the little thing to sleep, Bai Weijin rose to her feet and tried to force a smile at Chu Jiran, but failed. “Let’s go.” She sounded worn out.
Keeping awake for a whole night, Bai Weijin opened her eyes before the dawn broke, and heaved a sigh of relief at the sight of her baby boy lying beside her. She bent over to kiss his tender cheek.
Whenever she was about to fall asleep, the picture of the kidnappers flinging her son down popped into her mind. Bai Weijin gave up sleeping and began to pack her stuff.
She had no idea that the other also two spent a sleepless night.
