Though their wedding was cancelled, Gu Yeze and Ji Yun looked unconcerned these days, either working or going shopping as usual. Everyone was anxious to know what had happened between them.
After Bai Weijin had left, Gu Yeze spent most of the day in the company, burying himself in his work. Somehow, Ji Yun started to take interest in Gu’s business and often devoted better part of a day to it.
Grandma Gu was worried about that. ‘What the hell is she gonna do? She promised me she would not get involved in Gu’s affairs. Has she changed her mind? Or was she lying to me? Just because Yeze canceled their wedding?’ Grandma Gu thought to herself. Whatever the reasons, she would not allow the situation to continue.
“Yun, are you still angry with Yeze, after he called off the ceremony? I shouldn’t have agreed on it! Sorry for not stopping my unfilial child.” Grandma Gu took Ji Yun by the hand, saying in an apologetic tone.
Ji Yun shook her head with a smile, “Grandma, I’m not angry at all. We’ve made the decision together, so don’t blame Yeze for it.”
What she said obviously failed to convince Grandma Gu, who replied, “Don’t lie to me, Yun. I’m sure that you’ve been crossed with him. Or why don’t you come here until now?” There was upset in her tone.
“Grandma, I’ve been too busy lately. You see, I come to visit you once I have time to spare. Seems that it’s not me but you who got crossed, isn’t it?” Ji Yun looked smilingly at Grandma Gu, as if she were a spoiled little girl.
Grandma Gu thought for a moment before speaking, though she still had suspicions about it, “You naughty girl, making fun of me again! By the way, what has tied you up? If you get stuck, Yeze is always willing to lend a hand.”
A slight sneer crept over Ji Yun’s face, which was soon replaced by a maidenly shyness, though. Her head bowed, Ji Yun replied coyly, “Grandma, I… nothing tied me up. I just want to spend more time with Yeze so as to deepen our connections.”
Her feigned affection finally put Grandma Gu’s mind at rest. She was all smiles, patting Ji Yun on the arm, “Good girl. It’s exactly your priority to build up a solid relationship. There’s no time to spare. The sooner you get married, the faster my great-grandchildren will be brought into this world.”
Ji Yun went bright red. She opened her mouth but finally made no utterance.
“Well, my shy girl,” Grandma Gu cast her a smile.
“Grandma!” Ji Yun dropped her gaze, as if being extremely bashful about it.
“Okay, okay, let’s stop here!” Grandma Gu burst into laughter.
The smile on her face was gone once Ji Yun headed out of Gu’s House. ‘Now I’ve crossed the first pass, also the most difficult one. As far as I can judge, Grandma Gu will finally get in my way, even though I won her trust for now. She’s keeping a terribly close watch on Gu’s Group!”
Ji Yun thought for a while before she went to Gu’s Group. ‘Guess I shall make everyone believe I do want to forge a strong bond with Gu Yeze. Hmm, what a fool he is to think he’s the love of my life!’ She jeered inwardly.
“Ji Lin, come to meet me now, and we’re going to Gu’s Group.”
They arrived at Gu Yeze’s office, only to find that Gu Yelin stood right before the desk hot with emotion, his teeth gnashed in anger.
Ji Yun paused, and then opened her mouth under their gaze, “Am I coming at the wrong time? Sorry, I can wait outside.” She walked outwards while saying.
“No need. Just stay.” Gu Yeze turned away to look at his cousin, “You can leave now. There’s no room for negotiation.” Then he got down to work.
Gu Yelin was seething with rage. ‘Shall I, a member of Gu’s family, make way for an outsider now?’ Despite that, he had no intention of letting Ji Yun make laughing stock of him, so he shot her a hard glance and walked away.
Ji Yun bent her head, as if being scared by his look, while beneath the surface she was pretty cheerful. ‘Fancy that I find a helper so soon. He can be a good one.”
“Yeze, you look busy, don’t you?” Ji Yun asked Gu Yeze, who spared her one glance only.
“What’s up?” Gu Yeze raised his head with a frown. For the previous days Ji Yun had been quietly sitting by his side, causing no interruption for him. So he acquiesced in her company, but today…
“Nothing, I just want to tell you I’m going shopping with Ji Lin, which means, you may need to work alone this afternoon.” Ji Yun shook her hand and explained.
Gu Yeze shot a glance at Ji Lin, nodded, and got back to his paperwork again.
Ji Yun bit her lips in low spirits and walked off.
Having seen both of them off, Gu Yeze raised his head, with a mocking smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. ‘I’ve told you I’ll never develop a liking for you, nor can I be jealous even if you’re close to another man.’ Gu Yeze was contemptuous of the sentimental kind.
As soon as they walked out of Gu’s Group, Ji Yun gave an instruction, “Ji Lin, ask Gu Yelin out at the right time. He’ll be of much use.”
Ji Lin frowned on thinking of the man they had met, yet soon he remained expressionless again and nodded.
