“Yeze, I’m afraid you have to keep a watch out for your cousin.” A fidget on the sofa in Gu Yeze’s office, Ji Yun spoke after hesitation for hours. She looked perturbed, as if worrying that Gu Yeze might misunderstand her.

“Gu Yelin? What’s wrong with him?” Gu Yeze asked with a frown.

“Not a big deal. Anyway, be alert.” Ji Yun bit her lip, replying.

Gu Yeze made no more inquiry but gave a nod. He was aware that Ji Yun had her own information channels, by which she learned about his rescue of Bai Weijin and her son. ‘She must have found some evidence.’ Gu Yeze held no suspicion about what Ji Yun said. He believed that the woman would not go against him, though the conclusion was drawn from more his subjective judgment than a feeling of trust.

Ji Yun breathed a sigh of relief, and flashed a faint smile when Gu Yeze turned away. She never thought about achieving her goal with the help of Gu Yeze, who was, pitiably, a mere gangplank she used to reach her destination.

Having received Ji Yun’s reminder, Gu Yeze gave some attention to Gu Yelin and indeed found something wrong with him. Instead of acting immediately and alerting him, Gu Yeze planned to wait for the opportune moment and strike him a shattering blow.

Since the conversation took place, Ji Yun began to get involved in some of group business. Her sense of presence was not so strong but could be obviously felt. Gu Yeze also got used to working with her.

Time flied. Gu Yelin was about to bring his scheme into action, when Gu Yeze came and smashed it straight off.

Gu Yelin was totally stupefied. ‘How come? My plan went on secretly, and I also used some help.’ He couldn’t figure out why until Ji Yun who followed his cousin in met his eyes. ‘It must be Ji Lin, the coward, who failed to keep it from Ji Yun, and then she told Gu Yeze about that!’

Gu Yelin now hated Ji Lin’s guts, though he had to admit that he lost the game. However, he didn’t want to end up like this. ‘Surely I can’t be the only one who will bear the consequence, can I?’

The reason why Gu Yelin never suspected Ji Lin of betrayal lied in his awareness of the man’s love for Ji Yun. What’s more, they had had a deal: Through cooperative efforts, Ji Lin was to obtain Ji Yun, and Gu Yelin the company. Gu Yelin knew what Ji Yun meant to Jilin. Finally, he signed to himself, ‘What a shrewd woman! She has fooled each of us into believing her deep affection for Gu Yeze, including Gu Yeze himself.’

“Ha-ha, Gu Yeze, do you really think you win? Definitely not! For I will never give up, and you will never beat me! Do you have any idea how many times you were cheated on?” Gu Yelin seemed to go crazy.

His words immediately reminded Gu Yeze of what had happened between Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran as well as the existence of that child. He flied into a fury, slapping Gu Yelin hard across the face and speaking to everyone present, “From now on, Gu Yelin is relieved of his post as vice president of Gu’s Group.” Then he turned around and left.

On hearing what he said, everyone changed his countenance, yet no one dared to challenge his decision.

By contrast, Gu Yelin was indifferent about that. He just laughed much harder, “Ha-ha-ha, Gu Yeze, you got angry because I touched your sore spot! Believe me, you’ll never beat me out!” Gu Yelin was confident that, given his identity, he would not wind up as a loser.

Gu Yeze made no reply but quickened his pace.

When he calmed himself down, Gu Yeze found he might have missed something. ‘Gu Yelin hinted not only at Bai Weijin, then who else did he imply? Ji Yun? What did she do?’

Though he had no idea, Gu Yeze started to keep a wary eye on Ji Yun. ‘As Ji Yongkang’s daughter, how can she be an innocent?’ Gu Yeze realized he might have underestimated the woman.

On hearing what Gu Yelin uttered, Ji Yun froze with fear. ‘Gu Yeze is smart enough to understand the implications of his remarks.” She struggled to maintain her composure. ‘Anyway, I cannot get flustered, or my plan will come to nothing.’

After some thinking, Ji Yun made up her mind to sound Gu Yeze out one day. Also, she became more cautious than ever.

“Ji Lin, tell me how was your talk with Gu Yelin?” Ji Yun asked sternly, her eyes fixed on Ji Lin’s face. ‘Gu Yelin couldn’t have made the utterance over nothing. Something must have gone wrong with Ji Lin.’

Ji Lin turned pale, kneeling down before Ji Yun, “Sorry, mama. I was being rash. Please let me take my punishment!”

Ji Yun regarded Ji Lin with hatred, for he had nearly ruined her meticulous plan. However regretful he was, Ji Yun could hardly be mollified. “Get out of my face for the whole week. Beat it!” snarled she. This was the heaviest punishment Jilin had ever received, for he had nowhere to go when getting away from Ji Yun, except the horrible lands where no one had the guts to step a foot on.

Ji Lin made no reply but rose to his feet and left.

Despite his distrust of Ji Yun, Gu Yeze didn’t let his suspicion manifest itself. Ji Yun was relieved but proceeded with extreme caution meanwhile.

Her unremitting efforts paid off. Ji Yun successfully entered the Group’s core operating team and gained a foothold there.

Grandma Gu realized the fact, but it was too late. She questioned Ji Yun, yet the latter said she was just building up solid relationship with Gu Yeze.
