A week later, Gu Baiqi was back on his feet. Credit must go to Dr. Yan Qing, but Bai Weijin disliked him. Yan Qing didn’t mind it in the slightest, still performing his duty every day.
Since Gu Baiqi fell ill, Bai Weijin quitted her job. Given that her situation born no difference with that at home, she decided to leave. The very thought of Qiao Chenfeng and Yan Qing keeping a watch on her made her annoyed.
Qiao Chenfeng almost paid daily visits to Bai Weijin and Gu Baiqi. Aware that he had lost Bai Weijin’s trust, the guy treated her better than ever as way of compensation.
“You’ve resigned, haven’t you?” After a body check for Gu Baiqi, Yan Qing didn’t go straight back as usual but asked Bai Weijin.
“Taking care of my son is more important.” Bai Weijin replied coldly, with Gu Baiqi in her arms.
Her answer didn’t surprise him. Yan Qing nodded and left the room.
Qiao Chenfeng was also there. After Yan Qing retired, he moved next to Bai Weijin and opened his mouth with a smile, “You said it, Bai Weijin. Baiqi’s getting sick scared all of us. Your only job now is to look after him, and I can take care of anything else. Don’t worry, I’m always there for you!”
Bai Weijin turned away to look at him, without saying a word. Under her steady gaze, Qiao Chenfeng’s smile faded. He rubbed his hair, at a loss for words.
“You don’t have to. I know you have your own stand.” Bai Weijin took a deep breath and said.
Qiao Chenfeng’s eyes suddenly lit up with pleasure. He asked carefully, “So you forgive me? Really?”
Bai Weijin looked out of the window and gave a nod, “Qiao Chenfeng, I’m not a child. I know why you did it, and you don’t have to do this for me.”
Qiao Chenfeng’s eyes glazed over when she said that. Soon he forced a smile, “I do have to. Someone has entrusted you to my care.”
Bai Weijin bowed her head and gave a smile. ‘To your care? Not anymore soon.’
Now that Gu Baiqi was fully recovered, Bai Weijin put their departure on the agenda. She once thought of finding another job to feed herself and her child, which seemed to be unworkable. After careful deliberation, Bai Weijin decided to leave for M country to pursue further studies.
She had chosen a college, and the rest of things could be done one by one after they arrived there. Bai Weijin was clear that it was a difficult road to follow, but she did as she saw fit. Whatever difficulties she might encounter, she was determined to forge ahead and make her way in the world.
Bai Weijin bought air tickets and set off quietly at night.
Next morning, Yan Qing routinely came to the next-door house to check Gu Baiqi over. Though the child had recuperated from the illness, a physical examination was needed. The moment he walked into their house, Yan Qing found some stuff there went missing, as well as Bai Weijin and Gu Baiqi. ‘Where have they gone?’
He immediately called Qiao Chenfeng to inquire about the whereabouts of Bai Weijin.
On hearing the news, Qiao Chenfeng was anxious as well. He hurried there, only to find that the room stood empty. Not until then did he realize why Bai Weijin say those things to him. She had long made the decision to leave.
“Mrs. Zhang, have you heard from Bai Weijin?” Qiao Chenfeng thought of the maiden who took care of Gu Baiqi, finding out her number and dialing it. Bai Weijin couldn’t have left no clue to him or Yan Qing, but she might have said something to Maid Zhang.
“Was that Mr. Qiao? Miss Bai sent me a text message in the middle of last night, saying that my job was done. Besides, she transferred a sum of money into my account. I saw it this morning. What’s wrong? Has anything happened?” Maid Zhang asked out of kindness.
“Nothing. Thanks for your work.” Qiao Chenfeng replied, his brows knitted.
Qiao Chenfeng and Yan Qing spent hours searching for Bai Weijin, yet no clue was found. Living abroad was totally different from staying at home. In M country, it was much easier to escape the attention of any snitch as well as of Qiao Chenfeng who, though, had stayed there for several years.
Both of them became conscious of the fact that Bai Weijin had been fully prepared for the escape and that there was only a slim chance that they would trace her. However, they didn’t feel like giving up until at least one clue was found.
At the same night, Chu Jiran and Gu Yeze both received a message: Bai Weijin slipped away with Gu Baiqi; their whereabouts are still unknown.
Chu Jiran’s heart skipped a beat. He kept calling Bai Weijin, yet never got through. He came to realize that Bai Weijin intended to break off contact with him.
Feelings of anger and sadness came over Chu Jiran, yet he could hardly figure out any way out. Since that, he had been in low spirits for days, wondering how he would live out the rest of his life without Bai Weijin’s presence.
In the end, Chu Jiran came around. ‘She must be safe and sound now. As a mother, she would not allow of herself at danger.’ And he had no doubt about that, though he still couldn’t make sense of her sudden departure, without his being aware of it.
‘Since she doesn’t want any contact with me, I respect that. I’m gonna wait here for her to come back.’ Chu Jiran never thought of the possibility that Bai Weijin’s departure had something to do with Yan Qing, the man he had asked from Gu Yeze to accompany Bai Weijin abroad. If he did, he would have been overcome with regret now.
As to Gu Yeze, he was stupefied at the news, but only for a second. Then he restored to what he usually looked like, as if nothing had happened. However, when Yan Qing reported next day to him about updates of the news, Gu Yeze felt something was missing and seemed to be out of his mind since.
Once they arrived at the destination, Bai Weijin entered a state of physical and spiritual relaxation. Despite the fact that life wouldn’t be easy for her in days to come, she licked her chops in anticipation.
