Holding a bowl of rice with both hands, Gu Yeze walked towards Bai Weijin and gave her the finger.
Bai Weijin was rendered speechless and retorted, “Can’t I have two bowls myself? I’m starved.”
Gu Yeze made no comment and just sat down opposite her.
There were soup and four other courses, including two stir-fried vegetarian dishes, sweet and sour spareribs and a steamed fresh fish.
Bai Weijin was quite good at cooking. Despite a lack of diversity, those dishes smelt extremely appetizing.
Gu Yeze felt hungry right now, while he still couldn’t help discouraging her, “What’s the shit?”
Bai Weijin could scarcely suppress the impulse to hit the bowl at his face and tried her best to hold back her anger, “I’m afraid my cooking fails to meet your standard, Mr. President. If the dishes aren’t to your liking, you can just go out and turn left to have dinner at the five-star hotel there.”
“Since my dear wife has prepared food, how can’t I do her the honor?”
“…”
Bai Weijin chose to ignore it.
Gu Yeze had hardly enjoyed the company of his parents since childhood. With an eccentric personality, he disliked being taken care of by someone unfamiliar. His grandma doted on him, but she was too busy to keep him company. However, he actually had a feeling of home at this moment.
All this put him in a good mood.
It would be nice to live such a life after they got married.
“When did you learn cooking?”
Presumably prompted by his good appetite, Gu Yeze started the conversation, which was rarely seen before.
It was a long while before Bai Weijin made a reply. Gu Yeze turned his attention from the meal and stared at her. Seeing her unready to talk, he suddenly looked grim.
Why did this man’s look change in such an unpredictable manner? His facial expression shifted even faster than the weather did and, even worse, with no sign. Bai Weijin felt kind of at a loss.
“I learned it when my mom fell ill.” Obviously, Bai Weijin didn’t want to dwell on the thing—it had always been a sore point with her.
Things about her mother was crystal clear to Gu Yeze when he inquired into her background.
But he didn’t learn that her culinary skills had anything to do with it. Gu Yeze shrugged his shoulders and said nothing more.
The sense of relaxation was soon replaced by that of embarrassment.
“What’s your plan for our wedding two days later?” Unwilling to recall her unpleasant past, Bai Weijin changed the subject of their conversation.
On hearing this, Gu Yeze reclined in the sofa, as if having had well-thought-out design at heart.
“Spare me the suspense and just tell me what you have arranged?”
“Nothing but a gift for Bai Yinya and Yan Sheng.” Gu Yeze fiddled with the chopsticks in his hand.
“What kind of gift?”
“You have no need to know. Just consider it a reward for your meal.”
What a nuisance! Bai Weijin couldn’t help rolling her eyeballs and stopped questioning.
The two filled up. You could never expect such a rosy picture between them—having a small talk about who was to wash the dishes or just doing the chores together, like ordinary couples did. Bai Weijin put the dishes into the dishwasher and went upstairs.
…
Next day Bai Weijin failed to see Gu Yeze early in the morning.
Time flied and in no time at all it was the wedding day.
At about four o’clock in the morning, Bai Weijin was woken by maids crowding in. Before she could react, they placed her before the dresser so that the make-up artist could do with her complexion and hairstyle.
Bai Weijin just left herself in the hands of them, allowing them to smarten her up.
Gu Yeze didn’t come back last night. His assistant called Bai Weijin yesterday noon to tell her that Mr. Gu would sleep at another property at night and would come over this morning.
It was the custom for the bride and groom to live separately on the eve of their wedding. Bai Weijin nodded her agreement.
Sitting in front of the dresser, she watched the hustle and bustle of the make-up artist and the stylist and went off into flights of fancy.
It was less than half a month since she became acquainted with Gu Yeze, and now they were about to get married. When her imagination ran wild, the makeup artist’s sound came.
“Miss Bai, sorry, we shall call you Mrs. Gu now.”
