Bai Weijin was busy cooking in the kitchen, and was meanwhile looking to the future.

She wanted neither ties with Bai family nor shares of the family inheritance, which were, in her eyes, sheer dirty money.

Now that she severed her relationships with Bai family completely and took not a single penny with her, a job was urgently needed.

As a 21st-century woman, Bai Weijin would never consider being provided for by Gu Yeze, in spite of the enormous wealth of Gu family.

Bai Weijin thought to herself, ‘Once things at hand get done, I am supposed to look for a job’. Based on her academic background and competence, finding a good job was just a piece of cake.

A sound came from outside. It was Gu Yeze.

For Bai Weijin, Gu Yeze had been easy on the eyes of late.

The reason behind was nothing but the fact that he fulfilled his promise to help her take revenge on the Bai Family.

“Hey, come and have dinner.” Bai Weijin smiled a kind and warm greeting towards Gu Yeze, if ever there was one.

Might pigs fly? The woman should be so attentive to him. A hint of suspicion emerged in Gu Yeze’s eyes.

Even a fool could perceive the change in his countenance, let alone Bai Weijin. Her face fell, and the forced smile disappeared without a trace. “Have it or be starved, do as you choose,” said she, straight-faced.

Her words annoyed Gu Yeze who was on the verge of beating her up.

What a wretched woman she was to suddenly turn on him!

“That you prepare food yourself may give others a feeling that Gu family can’t afford your meals, so you need to do the housework in person.” Gu Yeze walked to the kitchen while making caustic remarks.

“I’m not used to takeout. Yours is cooked in passing. Take it or leave it.” Bai Weijin answered back.

“Ha.” Gu Yeze uttered in a low voice.

He hadn’t had such simple home cooking, which for him was something of a novelty. Somehow, he found her stern look rather amusing.

“I heard that Bai Hongbo was mobilizing his resources to remove the news. You did it, didn’t you?” What Bai Weijin referred to was the fact that Bai Hongbo’s efforts failed and that the news spread more and more rapidly on television and newspaper.

Even the video of the wedding went viral on the web, and its poor attendance had been so far the butt of everyone’s jokes.

Gu Yeze gave no reply.

“Anyway, I owe you one.” Bai Weijin thanked him.

As a matter of principle, she always tried her best to repay the kindness she had ever received. Concerning Gu Yeze’s great help, she was determined to requite his favor with anything she was able to do, so she said:

“Thanks ever so much for your help. I really appreciate it, and in return, I’ll do all I can to act as a devoted wife in front of grandma.” Bai Weijin spoke naturally.

Gu Yeze paused. Somehow, he was unhappy with her words.

Their marriage, in the eyes of this woman, was a complete deal?

Though they had reached an agreement at the very beginning, her clearly drawing the line made Gu Yeze feel a little vexed.

His squint at her showed full danger.

Failing to notice his look, Bai Weijin added, “If you need help in the future… well, like warding your courters off, I’m at your service.”

What an annoying woman! Gu Yeze smashed his chopsticks onto the table.

Bai Weijin was talking when his action took her aback.

Was he not quite right in the head? Bai Weijin had no idea how she upset him. What was wrong with her thought of forming an alliance?

Gu Yeze propped himself up against the table, approaching Bai Weijin and asking, “Do you honestly think this way?”

“Think what?” Bai Weijin was hopelessly muddled.

“Our relation is nothing more than partnership?” asked Gu Yeze. His deep-set eyes narrowed.

“Yes, for sure, or what else do you think?”

There must be something wrong with Gu Yeze. As a saying went, “You can never tell exactly what is going on in the mind of a woman.” The saying seemed to apply to men likewise. Bai Weijin was speechless with his hard-to-pin-down disposition.

“Hm,” snorted Gu Yeze. He then strode out of the house and slammed the door shut.

“Nuts!” Bai Weijin also got angry. She paid no attention to him and continued dining on her meal.

…

In the bar, two hot beauties leaned their heads on a man’s shoulder.

The man was nobody but Gu Yeze.

Gu Yeze looked sullen, said nothing and kept drinking. Chu Jiran opposite him didn’t have the slightest idea why his newly married friend was now heavily drinking. It was very likely that he had had a quarrel with Bai Weijin. Chu Jiran shook his head and uttered no word of dissuasion.

“Get out of my face!” Gu Yeze yelled at the two women around him.

Gu Yeze for some unknown reason didn’t respond to their flirtation. Instead, his mind was in a turmoil.

Trembling with fear, the two ladies backed off.
