Zhang Lanxin answered, “They are Lv Yan and Liu Nana. It has been three months since Liu Nana’s internship came to an end.”

Gu’s offered an excellent benefits package, but only few applicants had the necessary qualifications. Despite that, Bai Weijin would not take a soft line. She said to Zhang Lanxin, “You take their work over for now or transfer it to me. As for those two, they can pack their bags.”

Zhang Lanxin nodded her head, picked up the document and went out.

Before leaving, she said smilingly that Bai Weijin looked pretty cool just now.

The two girls were packing up their things. Bai Weijin had no idea which choice they would pick. Word spread quickly in a company, and soon what happened this morning would be known to everyone. Given that they applied for a transfer, she would definitely approve their application, but how other departments would react was none of her business.

Her lips curled in contempt. Bai Weijin continued her work.

Time flied.

Bai Weijin poked her head out of piles of documents, to find that she had already done a good morning’s work. Her stomach started rumbling with hunger. She laid the documents aside and went out for lunch.

When she walked out of the office, Bai Weijin noticed that her colleagues looked at her either in fear, or with respect or curiosity.

Presumably the news spread widely during the lunch hour—the new director had meted out harsh punishment to two staff members who gossiped about her.

She bumped into an acquaintance on the way.

It was Gu Yelin.

He faintly resembled Gu Yeze but couldn’t compete with him. His face was forbidding, even hostile.

Bai Weijin pretended not to see him, while Gu Yelin hailed her immediately, “You’ve made an impressive show of your power in the morning, my dear sister-in-law.”

Faced with his deliberate provocation, Bai Weijin made a sharp retort.

“For those that pick quarrels and cause trouble, we’d better deal a shattering blow.” The implication was that he’d better get out of her face.

Gu Yelin feigned innocence and added, “I don’t suppose my cousin assigned you to the department to engage in petty intrigue. A word of advice: you’d better pay attention to your work.”

Bai Weijin saw what he meant and shook her head.

He did overrate his own abilities.

Bai Weijin wouldn’t like to get entangled in an argument with him and rushed to the lift about ten strides away. If there was no common ground, a single word with the sickening man was a waste of breath.

Yet Gu Yelin wouldn’t let her off, “You’ve made an early display of your temperament, so I’m afraid you, my dear sister-in-law, would eventually become a laughing stock of the company.”

“You must be off your nut!” Bai Weijin sneered as she entered the lift.

Blue veins stood out on Gu Yelin’s temples when he clenched his fist. ‘Gu Yeze, Bai Weijin, how dare you be so arrogant! I couldn’t wait to see your acquisition of Chenfeng fail and your efforts at the case become futile.’

‘I wonder, faced with endless interrogations of shareholders and employees, how you would wind the matter up.’

Bai Weijin was greeted by his exasperation as the lift-cabin door slowly closed.

No wonder that he always lost to Gu Yeze and that their grandmother thought highly of the latter. There was a yawning gap between them, of which Gu Yelin himself was also aware.

What he could do was to make trouble for his cousin behind the scenes, which, in Gu Yeze’s eyes, were too insignificant to speak of.

There was a stark contrast.

Bai Weijin had an appointment with Chenfeng’s people at two o’clock in the afternoon, so she quickened her pace. She didn’t want to waste her breath on Gu Yelin.

To upset his smug calculations was the most powerful counterblow.

Chenfeng Group.

Bai Weijin got out of the car and walked towards the front desk. Seeing the smartly-dressed, poised and confident woman, the receptionist greeted her attentively.

“Hello, miss, what can I do for you?”

Bai Weijin answered, “I made an appointment with your president at 2 p.m. Please notify him of my presence.”

Since she had a kind manner, Bai Weijin returned her the kindness.

“Okay. Wait a minute, please.”

When she hung up, the receptionist said to Bai Weijin in humble reverence, “Miss. Bai, this way, please.”

Bai Weijin entered the lift. The receptionist helped her press the button up to the 12th floor and went out.

When she stepped out of the lift, the largest office on the 12th floor came into view. A middle-aged man waiting anxiously at the door went to meet her.

“You are Mrs. Gu, aren’t you? Nice to see you, Miss. Bai.” The man extended a hand in welcome.

Bai Weijin didn’t shake hands with him.

‘He must be Chenfeng’s president,’ Bai Weijin thought.

He had a bald head and was short and fat in stature, with a large beer belly. Apparently, the suit didn’t fit.

He was aware that she was Gu Yeze’s wife and didn’t dare to tease her, but his eyeing up made Bai Weijin feel sick.

His name was Zhao Kaicai. Seeing that Bai Weijin ignored him, the man withdrew his hand and smiled, “How about going inside and having a talk, Miss. Bai?”

Bai Weijin nodded and walked in.

She sat down on the sofa and came straight to the point, “Mr. Zhao, I’m here to negotiate about Gu’s Group’s acquisition of Chenfeng.”

Zhao Kaicai looked at her with greedy eyes, for Bai Weijin was now in his eyes a money bag.

Gu Yeze had been well-informed about Zhao Kaicai’s expected price from the very beginning and made an ideal bid for him. The number was much larger than other companies could offer and meanwhile not much above Zhao’s assumed price.

Unexpectedly, Gu Yelin secretly provided Wu’s Group with a large sum of money and asked its people to drive up the purchase price.

After that, Zhao Kaicai overvalued the property of Chenfeng and set an unimaginably high price.

He believed that Bai Weijin was coming to place a higher bid and looked forward to hearing that number.

Yet Bai Weijin smiled and shook her head. She certainly knew what the man was thinking.

“Mr. Zhao, I’m here not to negotiate about the price, but to do a new deal. Your earnings will be several times higher than what you’re making now.” Bai Weijin paused.

Zhao Kaicai’s eyes were wide open.

Bai Weijin made a gesture with her fingers to hint at the number.

Zhao Kaicai took a deep breath and said to Bai Weijin hastily, “What kind of deal, Miss Bai?”

He took the bait as expected.

Bai Weijin was calm and unhurried, “I’ll tell you later, Mr. Zhao. Take it easy. We need to come to an agreement in advance. In achieving our ends, there can be no error whatsoever. If you fully cooperate with us, you’ll certainly get your fair share…”

She paused and looked at Zhao Kaicai, “If you don’t and secretly play mean tricks, Gu Yeze will be bound to teach you a lesson.”

Just as Bai Weijin said, money-grubbers like Zhao Kaicai were often easy to deal with. Yet in case he made a hash of Gu Yeze’s plan due to his greed for money, she decided to give a warning now.

In this way, Zhao Kaicai dared not do anything.

Beads of sweat appeared on Zhao Kaicai’s forehead.
