Chu Jiran swallowed the food down before opening his mouth, “I’m not like you. There’s no such beauty who would take good care of me.”

Gu Yeze turned away and shot a glance at Bai Weijin, who, somehow, felt a little bashful under his gaze.

At first, Bai Weijin was quite free and cooked meals for Gu Yeze every day. Yet the situation changed when she found a job. Besides, the two often had a quarrel and weren’t on speaking terms from time to time.

It had been a long time since Bai Weijin prepared food herself.

Chu Jiran stared glumly at the two making eyes at each other.

He intentionally changed the topic, “Well, what has happened to Yeyu? How come she dates Zhao Lei?”

Bai Weijin remained silent. Gu Yeze would like to answer the questions when his phone rang.

Gu Yeyu’s sound came by the phone, “Brother, is Jiran there?”

Gu Yeze said yes and handed the mobile phone to Chu Jiran.

“You naughty girl! I’ve made a special trip here to welcome you, to find that you’ve gone out on a date.”

Gu Yeyu seemed to have a word with him on the phone.

“How can you be romantically involved with Zhao Lei? I sent some men to give him a good beating two years ago so that he dared not drool over you, while you take a fancy to him immediately following your return?”

Bai Weijin felt sorry for the poor girl, who, in order to help her deal with Bai Yinya, risked going out with such a scum, while Gu Yeze seemed unconcerned.

Chu Jiran continued, “I wonder why you fall for Zhao Lei, or maybe he has changed a lot in the past two years. Anyway, be careful. Call us when there’s an emergency.”

Gu Yeyu was disappointed to find Chu Jiran unannoyed by her dating another man. Against all expectations, the man just worried about her safety instead of rushing over to take her back.

Gu Yeyu went pale but repressed her sadness, replying, “I get it.”

Zhao Lei had already ordered a meal, ready to look for Gu Yeyu who had been out for a while. At the moment the girl came in with a grim look on her face.

“What’s up, Miss Gu?”

Weary of dealing with Zhao Lei, Gu Yeyu, though, answered when thinking of her promise to Bai Weijin, “I’m all right.”

Zhao Lei rubbed his hands together.

“How are you doing these years? It seems that we haven’t had a chat since you came back.”

Gu Yeyu jabbed a straw into her drink, “I’m fine. How about you? I remember you were with a girl that day, your girlfriend?”

Zhao Lei’s heart missed a beat. He categorically denied it, “Not at all. You must have misunderstood us. She’s a daughter of my dad’s friend, and I was told to take her out that day.”

“Really?” replied Gu Yeyu. Zhao Lei made further explanation to dispel her suspicion.

“Of course it is. Actually… I’ve never forgot you for a moment after you turned me down years ago.” Zhao Lei said while secretly looking her up and down.

Gu Yeyu bowed her head, making a show of shyness, though she had an utter disdain at heart.

It delighted Zhao Lei that Gu Yeyu was likely to go steady with him, so he continued, “I know we may not be evenly matched in terms of family background, but I’ll be a good boyfriend and try my best to gain the recognition from your family, I promise.”

Gu Yeze and Chu Jiran used to block him from paying his addresses to Gu Yeyu. Chu Jiran was somewhat kinder and showed some consideration for his feelings, while Gu Yeze never spared his feelings at all.

Later on, he expressed his love for Gu Yeyu but was rejected. He wouldn’t give up and tried to hug her when Chu Jiran came with some men and beat him up.

Due to the fact that he’d brought shame on the whole family, his father locked him home for a long time as punishment.

Gu Yeyu pretended to shillyshally, “Let me think it over before I give you an answer.”

Zhao Lei was only too glad to hear what she said, for Gu Yeyu had never glanced at him before. Her words showed that it was possible for him to be her boyfriend.

The best way of dealing with a person like Zhao Lei was none more than to leave him a gleam of hope.

Zhao Lei felt cheerful throughout the meal and kept chattering all the while. His usual refined manners disappeared without a trace.

By contrast, Gu Yeyu looked absent-minded, occasionally making a reply.

After the meal, Zhao Lei would like to drive Gu Yeyu home, but she refused, “My brother hates it when I’m with you. He’ll definitely give you a good scolding as long as he sees you.”

On hearing what she said, Zhao Lei gave up. He had no nerve to confront Gu Yeze.

Zhao Lei drove home after a reluctant farewell.

Gu Yeyu drove to a corner and went to the hotel where Gu Yeze had arrived.

The three were talking about business. Bai Weijin’s unique insight into the future of the market totally drew Chu Jiran’s attention, and even Gu Yeze gave her a smile.

Gu Yeyu looked unhappy when a waiter showed her in.

Bai Weijin waved at her in greeting. Given that Gu Yeze and Chu Jiran were present, Bai Weijin didn’t ask her how the things went.

Chu Jiran knocked her forehead, “You imp, why don’t you come to see me until now?”

Gu Yeyu covered her forehead with both hands and let out a cry.

“We haven’t seen each other for two years. How can you be so rough on me?”

Chu Jiran gave a snort, “Humph, you look as if forgetting the fact.”

Only now did Bai Weijin get the picture. She looked at Gu Yeze, to find that he wasn’t surprised at all.

He must have already learned that.

No wonder he told her not to take Gu Yeyu’s words seriously. It turned out that the girl dated Zhao Lei intentionally on the same day when Chu Jiran returned.

So Chu Jiran would get jealous.

The man, however, didn’t behave as she wished. Despite his strong dislike for Zhao Lei, Chu Jiran told her nothing but to be careful. Clearly, he simply saw her as his family.

No wonder Gu Yeyu was unhappy.

Bai Weijin finally understood why the girl was mysterious about her aim days ago. Bai Weijin felt sorry for Gu Yeyu when seeing that she joked with Chu Jiran as if nothing had happened.

Gu Yeze was partly to blame, Bai Weijin assumed when giving him a glare.

Irritated, Gu Yeze took it out on Gu Yeyu by shooting her a cold glance.
