Gu Yeyu choked with tears as she approached Bai Weijin, “Weijin was in a good mood when she left. She even told me to wait and see, not interfering in their conflict. I don’t know what happened on the road…”

“Get out.” Gu Yeze’s voice was as cold as ice.

He had no idea what Bai Weijin had suffered and took his anger out on his sister.

“Brother…” Gu Yeyu wanted to stay and see how Bai Weijin was, though Gu Yeze’s scolding frightened her.

“Piss off, now!”

Gu Yeyu was as tenacious as him. Despite her fear for Gu Yeze, she stood still, confronting him.

Until a small voice came from behind, “Gu Yeze, what are you doing?”

Gu Yeyu heard what she said, “Weijin, how are you feeling now?”

The girl seemed to have a lot of pent-up emotions to vent. She took Bai Weijin’s hand and kept weeping.

Given that Bai Weijin had come to, Gu Yeze stopped criticizing his sister. He pulled Gu Yeyu away and asked Bai Weijin in a stern voice, “What on earth happened to you?”

The doctor told him that Bai Weijin had just a mild concussion and a few scratches on the skin.

But Gu Yeze felt these small injuries quite terrible. If there had been anything wrong with Bai Weijin, he would have killed Zhao Lei, Bai Yinya and that driver.

“Nothing. I was in a trance and motored down the wrong path.” Bai Weijin was in no mood for further explanation.

Gu Yeze was vexed by her perfunctory answer.

He moved closer to Bai Weijin, gripping her arm tightly.

“You are hurting me!” Bai Weijin threw him an angry glance.

Gu Yeyu immediately stopped her brother, “Weijin just woke up. Don’t be rough with her.”

Gu Yeze loosened his grip, saying to Gu Yeyu, “It’s none of your business. Get out!”

Bai Weijin opened her mouth, “Yeyu, I’m feeling all right. You can go home now and come to see me another day.”

Gu Yeyu agreed in an aggrieved tone.

“Let go of my arm.” Bai Weijin wearily looked at Gu Yeze. As far as she could judge, he must have got everyone involved into a mess.

Gu Yeze frowned.

As expected, they were in a complete mess. Despite the fact that Bai Weijin was entirely to blame for the accident, Gu Yeze had almost beaten the driver on the spot.

The traffic police dared not release the driver for fear of infuriating Gu Yeze. As for the chauffeur, he was unlucky to have sustained minor injuries and detained by the police.

“What’s going on?” Bai Weijin took a look out of the window. It was very noisy outside, though everyone tried to lower their voices, in case of waking her up.

“Answer my question first.” Finding out the truth about what had happened was a piece of cake for Gu Yeze, but he wanted Bai Weijin to tell him herself.

Bai Weijin wrinkled up her nose.

“We were meeting with Zhao Lei when Bai Yinya came. Judging by how she behaved, it seems that I don’t need to do anything but look on,” replied Bai Weijin, her eyes closed.

Gu Yeze had already learned of it from his men, who, at his orders, were ready to take Bai Yinya over by force.

“It occurred to me on the way back that I finally fulfilled my promise to Mom.”

Gu Yeze got the whole picture.

He had once sent someone to look into her past and was thus aware that Bai Weijin loved her mom very much. The reason why she hated Bai Yinya and her mother was that they had treated her mom badly. She must have been too preoccupied with the past memories to notice anything else.

A doctor knocked at the door.

It was not until now that Gu Yeze realized Bai Weijin had come to minutes ago. He signaled to the nurse to come inside and examine Bai Weijin.

Bai Weijin was slightly injured, while Gu Yeze called the most experienced physician here.

“Mr. Gu, your wife is on the mend. She just needs some time to recuperate.” The doctor fetched the medicine he had prescribed for Bai Weijin and handed it to Gu Yeze.

“I wanna leave hospital.”

Bai Weijin turned away to look at Gu Yeze.

Instead of forcing her to stay, Gu Yeze told the doctor to go through the formalities so that Bai Weijin could be discharged from hospital. After all, they had personal physicians and adequate health facilities at home.

Somehow, some knew that Bai Weijin met with a car accident, though no reporters were bold enough to give it coverage.

Du Meihua was rummaging for the building property ownership certificate when the news reached her ears.

She was in no mood to exult in Bai Weijin’s misfortune. There was still no word from Bai Yinya, and Bai Hongbo looked more and more despondent. Now he also heard of the news.

Somehow, he was even thinking about going to the hospital to visit Bai Weijin.

“Once Bai Hongbo mends fences with Bai Weijin, Bai’s Group will revive. Yinya and I are going to lose the foothold in Bai family by then,” said Du Meihua to Maid Liu, her face darkened.

Maid Liu came to Bai family when Du Meihua and Bai Hongbo got married and had been loyal to her.

“Then what should we do?” Maid Liu, for fear of irritating Du Meihua, repressed the urge to ask her about Bai Yinya.

“Wait and see how things will develop,” answered Du Meihua while sorting through the document at hand. All at once, an idea popped into her head.

…

On the other end of the hospital did a deal take place.

One man gave a cheque to a doctor, “It will be yours after you do as you are told. But if it is known by anyone else, you know what will happen to you.”

The doctor was sweating bullets.

It was the first time he saw such a large amount of money, which was ten times more than his annual salary. Despite the temptation, the man also feared that if their conspiracy was exposed… he was likely to receive a life sentence.

‘He looks like a man of wealth and power. If I refuse, he can easily make me get sacked.’

‘It would be better to take a chance.’

The doctor wiped the sweat from his palms, reached out his hand and gingerly took the check, as if it were pretty weighty.

The man smiled with satisfaction.

“You can rest assured that all will go smoothly and that you’ll receive your just reward as long as you cooperate fully with us.”

The doctor was convinced and gave him a nod. Then the man went out of the office.

He turned the corner and came up when he saw a person sitting in a chair. ‘How’s it going?” The person asked.

“It’s done, Mr. Zhao.”
