The lift stopped on the twenty-third floor. Chu Jiran went out first.

Bai Weijin took a deep breath and also walked out. She was a little afraid of being here now.

Today’s 23rd floor seemed quite different.

Chu Jiran gave her a worried look. Bai Weijin forced a smile, “Let’s go.”

Her smile was mixed with utter bitterness.

Luo Nan came over, with a thick pile of papers in his hands.

After some hesitation, he opened his mouth.

“Director Bai, President is now… handling some business in his office.”

Bai Weijin looked into his eyes and Luo Nan got nervous.

Chu Jiran got him out of the fix, “We have something to discuss with Mr. Gu, of which I informed him yesterday.”

“Sorry, it’s his private business. I’m afraid now is not the right time to interrupt President. How about waiting in the lounge for a while?” Luo Nan asked, with an embarrassed look on his face.

“What a conscientious assistant!” There was a touch of sarcasm in Bai Weijin’s voice.

Luo Nan was uncertain of who she hinted at.

In order to confirm her doubt, Bai Weijin strode straight to the office of Gu Yeze.

Luo Nan had no guts to stop her.

He tightened his grip on the papers and hastened away in the hope that President would not take it out on the ‘conscientious assistant’.

Chu Jiran had a sort of premonition and caught up.

Bai Weijin stood at the door. She felt desperately tired, and her spirits sank.

She was ready to open the door when a sweet voice came from inside, “Mr. Gu.”

Gu Yeze made no reply.

Bai Weijin almost burst into laughter. Last morning, she stood in his office and was touched by his dismissal of all the female employees on the 23rd floor.

After only one day or twenty-four hours.

He took another woman to the 23rd floor and stayed with her in his office.

What a big joke! Bai Weijin gritted her teeth, giving a sneer.

How dare you, Gu Yeze!

Chu Jiran also heard it. He frowned and pushed the door open.

It was the first time that he became so rude as to open someone else’s door without a knock. Gu Yeze frowned as he raised his head.

His frown grew deeper at the sight of Bai Weijin.

A woman in a dark green dress leaned on his table. Unlike the women who tried to seduce Gu Yeze before, she was rather good-looking, and the dress flattered her figure.

With a head of brown wavy hair falling over her shoulders, the woman had a most engaging demeanor.

Bai Weijin went deathly pale.

Chu Jiran reached out to pull her in.

Bai Weijin found herself stand before Gu Yeze.

“Mr. Gu, this is?”

Gu Yeze did not answer her question but stared at the blank expression on Bai Weijin’s face. He really hated it when she acted as if nothing could touch her.

“Yeze, what’s going on?”

It was rare for Chu Jiran to call Gu Yeze’s name in public, but he did now, for he noticed Bai Weijin’s clenched fists under her sleeves.

“Just like what you see. Why are you making such a fuss about it?”

Gu Yeze turned the page, scarcely sparing any glance at Bai Weijin.

“Seems having a beauty as company makes you comfortable.” Bai Weijin maintained her composure despite great sadness deep in her heart.

Gu Yeze started to lose patience with her.

“Does it have anything to do with you? Sorry, Director Bai, I’m busy now.”

As soon as he finished, the woman shot a mocking glance at Bai Weijin.

Chu Jiran couldn’t help asking, “Have nothing to do with her? Then who?”

“It does have nothing to do with me. I gotta go, see you.” Bai Weijin nodded at Chu Jiran and left. She didn’t want to stay here for a second.

They being close hurt Gu Yeze deeply.

When did Chu Jiran strike up a good relationship with her? Gu Yeze finally got vexed, “Chu Jiran, mind your own business.”

Chu Jiran rarely flew into a rage, but it didn’t mean he would never become angry. In fact, it would be scary when a good-humored man lost his temper.

Chu Jiran rejoined, “You’ve gone too far and brought another woman to your office!”

Gu Yeze swept the stuff from the table.

The woman was scared stiff.

Chu Jiran remained still, silently confronting him.

“I don’t want to repeat. Mind your own business!” Gu Yeze was on the edge of fury, for the way Chu Jiran shielded Bai Weijin provoked him.

“I don’t bother to interfere in your affair, but since you married her, you should treat her well.” Chu Jiran regained his composure now.

He handed a box to Gu Yeze.

“I got it. Here you are.” Then he took a look at the woman.

Gu Yeze didn’t take it.

“The woman who just walked away is nobody but his wife. I hope you can behave yourself.” Chu Jiran gave the woman a glare and strode away, leaving behind Gu Yeze who was still seething with rage.

The woman was called Sun Xue. She looked at Gu Yeze but dared not make any utterance.

Chu Jiran walked out, to find that Bai Weijin was leaning against the lift, her eyes closed.

He would like to pat her on the shoulder but didn’t.

Bai Weijin must have heard everything.

Sensing Chu Jiran came over, Bai Weijin turned away and managed a smile at him.

“Why are you smiling when you’re upset? It can make you even more upset.” Chu Jiran managed to repress the urge to touch her head.

“You think I need to cry? Whose shoulder can I cry on?”

It was late when Bai Weijin realized what she said just now. She was regretful for pouring out her heart to Chu Jiran.

He was merely one of her casual acquaintances.

Chu Jiran felt both happy for her sincerity and sorry about her sadness. He was thoughtful enough to not question her closely.

“Let me send you down,” Chu Jiran opened his mouth to ease her embarrassment.
