Bai Weijin closed the door and lay under her quilt.

It was long since she felt so lonely, without the presence of the man who used to make advances to her even if she intentionally showed an unhappy look on her face.

She didn’t know why Gu Yeze asked her such a question.

Bai Weijin only knew that even if she was given a second chance, she would counter the criticism from Gu Yelin, for his remarks did touch her sore spot. Besides, she married Gu Yeze with the intention of paying Bai family back, didn’t she?

She didn’t get much sleep the night. Next morning Bai Weijin woke up with a headache.

She decided to end her vacation and return to work.

On entering the company, Bai Weijin found herself being the center of attention.

‘Does our quarrel yesterday reach everyone’s ears? The news spread so fast!’ thought Bai Weijin.

“How can she still show an extremely arrogant look? No wonder President has taken up with another woman.”

“What a gentle smile President gave to the girl! It’s the first time that I see him act this way.”

“Bai Weijin is likely to be divorced, I assume. Nobody would like to see her long face all the while.”

“You said it! She won’t be President’s wife soon.”

The staffers talked with no regard for her presence. No wonder they were so excited—it turned out that Gu Yeze came to work with another woman.

Bai Weijin’s heart ached. ‘Gu Yeze, how can you treat me like this?’

“Enough is enough. Would you mind me talking to your director?” Bai Weijin gave them a glare.

She remembered meeting one of them who had gossiped about her the first day Bai Weijin came to work.

The girls were frightened by her look. One of them was ready to say something when a man came over, and she suddenly made a show of being bullied.

Was Gu Yeze coming? Bai Weijin’s heart missed a beat.

“Weijin? Why are you standing here?” A gentle male voice came from behind.

Bai Weijin turned around and saw Chu Jiran.

He stared at Bai Weijin with a puzzled look.

His mild voice lightened Bai Weijin’s bad mood. She did not even consider those girls annoying.

“Nothing, why are you here?”

Chu Jiran smiled, “I asked for Mr. Gu but failed to contact him. Now I have to follow the normal procedure.”

He winked at the receptionists with a shrug, making the girls blush.

Bai Weijin nodded and made way for him.

The girl who would like to make things difficult for Bai Weijin remained silent in the face of Chu Jiran and made registration of his visit.

Handsome and good-humored, Chu Jiran was regarded as an eligible bachelor by lasses in H City, though he seemed less attractive than Gu Yeze.

In fact, Chu Jiran stood head and shoulders above many.

Before they talked much, Chu Jiran was aware that there was something wrong with Bai Weijin. Besides, these girls also looked awkward.

“What happened just now?” Chu Jiran asked in a seemingly casual way.

There was complete silence. Bai Weijin sneered.

Chu Jiran raised his head, meeting their eyes with a commanding look.

The girls started to shirk responsibilities and shifted the blame onto each other, in case of making a bad impression on him.

“Nothing but a chat between us and Director Bai,” said the girl who was gonna answer Bai Weijin back earlier.

“A chat about what? The new partner Mr. Gu has? Or the time I’m abandoned? What an idle chatter!”

The several people were speechless at her words.

They feared Chu Jiran would have a low opinion of them after learning they gossiped about Bai Weijin behind her back.

As expected, Chu Jiran’s face darkened. He still looked graceful though there was already a menacing look in his eyes.

“Your duties seem to cover a wide range,” said Chu Jiran.

Each of them changed their countenance. Chu Jiran was on good terms with President. If he told President about that, they would definitely suffer, whether President liked that woman or not.

“I’m sorry.”

“Sorry, Director Bai. We shouldn’t have gossiped about you.”

They made apologies to Bai Weijin.

Bai Weijin didn’t appreciate the gesture. She was not the type to easily forgive others.

“Hold your tongue, or I’ll let you know how savage I am.”

Bai Weijin had seen many who bullied the weak and feared the strong when she lived in Bai house. Unfortunately, she was such a hard person that those who had bullied her reaped what they had sowed.

“Let’s go,” said Chu Jiran, for he had no right to punish Gu Yeze’s employees.

After the two left, those girls heaved a sigh of relief.

Bai Weijin and Chu Jiran took the lift.

Bai Weijin remained silent. Annoying as those girls were, they dared not joke about Gu Yeze. So, it must be true.

Chu Jiran couldn’t help glancing at her.

Bai Weijin used to be like a queen, while now she looked weary, with dark circles under her eyes that foundation couldn’t hide.

It was considerate of him not to ask what those receptionists talked about, for he was sure they must have spoken ill of her.

Somehow, Chu Jiran felt sorry for her.

They arrived at the twelfth floor on which Bai Weijin’s office was, but she didn’t go out.

Chu Jiran thought she was in a daze, “Weijin?”

He reminded her.

Bai Weijin looked up and met his gaze.

“I’m asking for Gu Yeze, too.” She explained.

She wasn’t in a trance but thinking about what… what she should do if there was a woman in Gu Yeze’s office.

Chu Jiran pressed the button, wavering between asking and not asking. Intuition told him things weren’t quite right between her and Gu Yeze, but he had no idea how to ask.

At first, he only saw her as a family member like Gu Yeyu, while as time went by, Chu Jiran found he couldn’t take his eyes off Bai Weijin.

His heart leapt the moment he caught sight of her just now.
