Bai Weijin drove along on a road to the suburbs and stopped by a public cemetery.
It was long since she came here.
The last time she visited her mom’s grave was before her wedding.
She walked slowly to the gravestone, gently laid a bunch of flowers on the grave, and began to sweep the cemetery.
After that, Bai Weijin sat before the grave.
“Mom, I feel I fall in love with him.” She picked a yellow flower, lovingly handling it in her hand.
Of course, no one replied.
She continued, “But I’m not sure whether to go steady with him. I’m afraid of ending up like you.”
“He’s taken up with another woman. I want to leave him, but… I’m a little reluctant.”
Anyone who knew Bai Weijin would be numb with shock to see her act like this, for she never showed any sign of weakness before them.
Only in front of her mom would she act like a child.
“I fear that one day, when I love him with all my heart and soul, he’ll abandon me and have a relationship with another woman like Bai Hongbo.” Gu Yeze had taken the woman to the company. What if he was gonna marry her in the future?
“Mom, what should I do?”
“Weijin?”
Bai Weijin gazed at her mother’s portrait with a blank expression when a voice came from behind.
Chu Jiran stared at her, with a bunch of white flowers in his hand.
Bai Weijin rose to her feet.
“Why are you here?” Bai Weijin looked around, to find that no one came with him.
Chu Jiran smiled, “I come to pay tribute to my mom.”
Bai Weijin never heard about his diseased mother. She nodded and didn’t ask him further with courtesy.
Chu Jiran placed the flowers not far away from where her mom’s grave was.
Bai Weijin felt surprised. Was this actually the grave of Chu Jiran’s mother?
She noticed the cemetery a few years ago, for there had been a thick layer of dust on it but no one ever did the cleaning or paid a visit.
Until two years ago.
She never expected it was the tombstone of Chu Jiran’s mother, but it did make sense. After all, Chu Jiran returned home two years ago.
“Astonished?” Despite Bai Weijin’s efforts to hide her surprise, Chu Jiran observed that.
Bai Weijin shook her head.
“The woman in Chu family is not my biological mother, who, though, died years ago. Afterwards, I was sent abroad and not collected home until Chu’s group was in imminent danger.”
Chu Jiran laid the bouquet in front of the tombstone.
“My dad cheated on my mom and married the woman, my new mother.” Chu Jiran smiled and gave a shrug.
This was the secret of his family, while he didn’t hide anything from her.
“Has Gu Yeze told you about my family?” Bai Weijin looked at the picture. It was a young mild woman with a friendly smile.
Chu Jiran shook his head.
“What a coincidence! Bai Hongbo got another woman and had an illegitimate daughter before he and my mom divorced. The woman became my stepmother later. I fought with them for years.”
Her remarks were dripping with sarcasm.
Chu Jiran also told Bai Weijin what his past life was like.
Perhaps her story reminded him of something he had on his mind. Chu Jiran couldn’t help but pour out his heart as if they had known each other for several years.
Life wasn’t easy for Chu Jiran when he was young.
His father cheated on his mother and remarried. Shortly afterwards, his mother died, allegedly of illness. As for the real cause, it was hard to say.
Then Chu Jiran was sent abroad by his father and studied hard there.
Yet the woman never became pregnant.
It was not until now that Bai Weijin realized Gu Yeze had intentionally caused the stir so that Chu Jiran’s father had to collect him back.
Chu Jiran took over Chu’s Group and seized the mantle.
The group that had been on the verge of collapse revived within months, part of which could be credited to Gu Yeze. Of course, Chu Jiran himself was a brilliant manager. Within less than six months, Chu’s Group rose to the top in business circle of H City.
Having considered Chu Jiran a good-for-nothing in former years, the man now praised his only son to the skies.
His wife was sore at Chu Jiran, yet she found no ways to be pregnant.
“Now the whole company is in my charge. My father is but a nominal head. As for that woman, I’ll make her pay.”
‘We’re not that different. He’s endured hardships for so many years in order to take revenge.’
‘I do that step by step, by dealing blows to Bai Yinya and her mother one after another.’
Bai Weijin realized that Chu Jiran was as tenacious as her.
“Of course you will. I’ll pay Bai Yinya and her mother back for what they did to my mom and me.” Bai Weijin also told Chu Jiran what had happened to her.
Chu Jiran looked at her differently.
Clever and attractive, Bai Weijin had left a strong impression on him. But he’d known a lot of beautiful women, many of whom even threw themselves at him.
Chu Jiran was a gentleman and had a stainless reputation in relations with the other sex.
“You’re right, but a happy life is also important. We cannot let them spoil our life.”
Chu Jiran looked at Bai Weijin. Having noticed hatred in her eyes many times, he hoped she could find her happiness someday.
His words left Bai Weijin speechless.
Except Mom, he was the first one to tell her to be a happy person and not be possessed by the feeling of hatred.
Mom always told her like this, but she couldn’t get what it meant until she met Bai Hongbo.
Now Bai Weijin heard the same words and felt a twinge of sadness.
Chu Jiran repressed the urge to give her a hug. After a while, he got up, patting the dust off his clothes.
“Let’s go,” said Chu Jiran.
Bai Weijin hid her sadness and nodded.
It occurred to her that she and Chu Jiran were two of a kind, both firm and tenacious, and it was pretty good to have such a friend.
