The room was warm and fragrant with the overflowing smell of tea. In the wake of Ren Yuchang’s slow drawl, Xia Xingcheng was actually a little sleepy.

Ren Yuchang was talking about films. The old man was rich in culture, and after several decades of making movies, some things were deeply rooted in his flesh and blood. It may have sounded interesting if he listened attentively, but Xia Xingcheng couldn’t keep his mind from wandering off, and resisted the urge to yawn multiple times.

Outside, the husky in the garden was unwilling to be left out. It whined as it scratched at the glass with its paws.

“Do you want to go play with the dog?” Ren Jingyuan asked Qin Xueyue.

Qin Xueyue immediately stood up, “Okay.”

Ren Yuchang paused and looked at them with a smile, “You youngsters go out and have fun, let Hailan and Youming have tea with me.”

Therefore, Ling Jiayue also stood up, leaving only Xia Xingcheng still sitting.

Yang Youming turned his head to Xia Xingcheng.

Xia Xingcheng looked back at him, wanting to ask, “Do you need me to accompany you”. And yet he couldn’t.

It was Yang Youming who spoke up first. “Go outside and take a walk. It’s your first time here, look around the garden Teacher Ren personally decorated.”

Only then did Xia Xingcheng nod. He got up to put on his jacket and followed the others into the garden.

They went around to the small inner garden where the dogs were kept. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Xia Xingcheng could see Yang Youming’s back.

There were two big dogs in the garden. Beside the husky, there was also a samoyed. They were very affectionate, with fluffy and soft fur, and they mindlessly wagged their tails at the sight of people.

Qin Xueyue walked beside Xia Xingcheng, elbowing him and asking, “Did Yang Youming really divorce Yuan Qian?”

Through an airtight wall of glass, neither the people inside nor outside of the house could hear each other’s voices.

Xia Xingcheng saw Ling Jiayue, who was walking in front, suddenly stop and look back at them. “I don’t know any more than you do,” Xia Xingcheng said, somewhat uncomfortably.

Just then, Ren Jingyuan took a ball and tossed it up for the dog to jump and catch.

The husky nipped the ball in Ren Jingyuan’s hand, but failed to snatch it, and it stood up on its hind legs, baring its teeth at Ren Jingyuan.

Qin Xueyue said, “How could you not know when he even took you on this personal trip. You guys are so familiar with each other, it’s impossible for him not to tell you.”

Hearing Qin Xueyue’s words, Ren Jingyuan looked at Xia Xingcheng in surprise, “You came with Ming ge? I thought you came with Lan ge.”

Xia Xingcheng responded vaguely.

Ling Jiayue was wholly silent as she walked to the side of the dog house and brought out the Samoyed that was hiding inside.

Xia Xingcheng, however, had a hard time not paying attention to her. It was probably her similar temperament to Yuan Qian that made Xia Xingcheng feel threatened from the beginning.

Ren Jingyuan said to Qin Xueyue, “How does this concern you?”

Qin Xueyue was unconvinced and said, “I’m just asking, why can’t I ask?” With that, she also went over to stroke the big, furry Samoyed.

While grabbing the ball from the husky, Ren Jingyuan said, “Their divorce is over and done with. As for why, I did hear some rumors.”

The others simultaneously turned to look at him.

Enjoying the feeling of being the centre of attention, Ren Jingyuan deliberately preened a little before saying, “They said that Yuan Qian–this person, even when she was married, she was restless. She raised a little wolf dog outside and had to divorce Yang Youming.”

Before Xia Xingcheng could open his mouth, Qin Xueyue said, “How long have they been married? If I married Yang Youming, I would never be able to cheat on him. How can a little wolf dog compare to Yang Youming?”

Ren Jingyuan threw the ball with all his might. It hit the wall and bounced back to the ground, and the husky scrambled over to grab it. He laughed and said, “A twenty-year-old man and a thirty-something going on forty year old man will always be different. You two are too young to understand. Ain’t that right, Xingcheng?”

Xia Xingcheng didn’t expect Ren Jingyuan to suddenly ask him, so he followed up with a laugh and said, “I don’t understand either. I haven’t tried it out yet.”

Ren Jingyuan burst out laughing, finding Xia Xingcheng’s answer interesting. He had meant to say that, as men, the two of them should understand. When he mulled over the meaning of Xia Xingcheng’s words for a moment, he couldn’t help but laugh, “That’s also right.”

The topic stopped there.

Xia Xingcheng picked up a ball, yet didn’t throw it for the dogs, playing around with it for his own amusement. The conversation just now had derailed into a whole different subject.

This garden was too small. They couldn’t even throw a ball for the dogs to pick up. Ren Jingyuan told them to go to the front courtyard.

Qin Xueyue had Samoyed’s leash in her hand and came over to pull Xia Xingcheng’s hand, “Let’s go, let’s go throw the ball.”

Xia Xingcheng turned around and saw Yang Youming looking out the window, so he gently pushed away Qin Xueyue’s hand and said, “You guys go first, I have to tie my shoelaces. ” After he spoke, he squatted down.

Ren Jingyuan had already thrown the ball while walking away. When the Samoyed in Qin Xueyue’s hands caught sight of the ball, it immediately chased after it, and Qin Xueyue was momentarily pulled along. She could only follow the dog, saying, “Hurry up!”

Xia Xingcheng unfastened his shoelaces and retied them again. When he stood up, he found that Yang Youming had gotten up from his seat and was walking to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking right at him.

He gazed towards the room and saw Chen Hailan leaning over to Ren Yuchang’s side to look over a book of some sort. Neither of them paid attention to what was going on here, so Xia Xingcheng walked over to the window.

The house’s elevation was a little higher than the garden’s, so Xia Xingcheng had to tilt his head up to see Yang Youming’s face.

Yang Youming was looking down at him. He suddenly let out a faint laugh, then leaned close to the window pane and exhaled on the glass. A layer of condensation appeared in an instant.

Then, Xia Xingcheng saw Yang Youming pull out a hand from his pocket. He raised his index finger to the glass and drew a star with his fingertip. After drawing it, he leaned forward and sealed the star with a kiss.

Xia Xingcheng gawked at him. Immediately after, Yang Youming laughed and raised his hand to wipe away the drawing along with the condensation, then turned back towards his chair.
