Chapter 104- Apocalypse (5)
“Who is it?” Mu Qingli stood in front of Gu Anran. Although she kept a smile on her face, her expression was very cold.
“Hahahaha, I just wanted to ask you two lovely ladies to hand over the bracelet that this cute little lady talked about and perhaps that sword on your back as well. Then we can invite you to join our team.” A young man about 23-24 years old walked out from behind one of the shelves. Behind him were four other young men his age, five young women, two middle aged men and one 12-year-old looking boy.
They all looked very clean and in good condition. Furthermore, the eyes they looked at were not like the eyes of the pigs who lust after beautiful women, but calm eyes with no wants. Although the man in the lead told them to hand over their things, there was no greed in his eyes. It was a strange sight.
Mu Qingli took a good look at the man in front of them and her guarded expression immediately relaxed as the warmth returned to her face.
“Long time no see, Wen Shenghao.”
“You know him?” Gu Anran asked in surprise.
“Long time no see, Eldest Young Miss.” Wen Shenghao bowed towards Mu Qingli respectfully, and the people behind him followed suit.
Goodness, so it turns out it was one of their own people!
Gu Anran exclaimed in surprise. It seems that Qingli’s status in the triad was very high and even during these trying times these underlings made no move to betray or flee.
“Eldest Young Miss, this is….?” Wen Shenghao asked.
“Gu Anran.” Mu Qingli answered.
“Hello, my name is Gu Anran. Please take care of me.”
Gu Anran nodded towards Wen Shenghao.
“Hello, Miss Gu, I am Wen Shenghao.” Wen Shenghao also replied.
“Let’s go to the police station.” Mu Qingli said simply and led Gu Anran towards the police station with Wen Shenghao’s group following behind. Gu Anran carefully studied their faces and found each of them stared with gazes of admiration towards Mu Qingli. It seems the Eldest Young Miss was still very respected!
With more people at their disposal, they could collect more things and were able to quickly collect all the bullets and guns left in the police station as well as collect more crystals from the zombies.
Soon they returned to their temporary base at the motel.
“Who are these people? What are they doing here?” The leader of the college students’ group immediately stood up when he saw Mu Qingli walking in with a new group of people. He puffed his chest arrogantly, as if to make it clear that he was the one in charge, but he didn’t notice how clean-looking this group of people were compared to his sorry self.
“Come and take a seat.” Mu Qingli directly ignored the boy and ordered Wen Shenghao and his group to come in. Seeing this, Wen Shenghao and his people also ignored the stupid boy and walked in directly.
“Hey! Mu Qingli! What do you mean by this!” Facing their obvious disregard, the boy’s face changed from pale to red in embarrassment. However, he did not receive an answer to his question and was left standing there, pointing at them as his face changed colors like a clown at a circus.
“Anran, drink some water.” Hong Qingyi threw a bottle of mineral water at Gu Anran and placed a few more bottles on the table for everyone else. Meanwhile, Song Wenyan took out a few packets of snacks and put them beside the water bottles on the table.
Seeing the people in front of him ignore him again while drinking water and eating cookies leisurely, the boy began to compare his situation with theirs. He had to eat flat bread and melted chocolate for dinner, yet how come these people get to eat and drink so well? And how dare they ignore him? Why must he be in such a miserable situation?
These few thoughts made the boy’s temper flare up and he quickly rushed towards the table and flipped it over. All at once, the snacks and water bottles spilled onto the ground.
“What’s so great about being so arrogant! You guys think you’re so great just because you have some weird powers?! Does that mean you can look down on people like this! You’re just a common whore and yet you pretend you’re something you’re not! How fake! A whore should act like a whore, who do you think you are? Do you really think this daddy is afraid of you?!!” Profanities rushed out of the boy’s mouth and coupled with the hysterical look on his face, people might mistake him for a lunatic.
Bang!
The boy was slammed into the wall behind him. He fell over, clutching his stomach as he began vomiting his dinner.
“Young Miss, how can you bring along a person like this with you? Trash should be thrown out properly.” The person who threw the punch was a woman from Wen Shenghao’s group. She glanced at the boy with a disgusted look in her eyes as if she was looking at a bug.
“Y-You…you dare to hit people…cough, cough, cough…..I will report you….” The boy’s face twisted in pain as he clutched at his stomach and pointed his trembling free hand at the woman.
“Go ahead! We’ll even wait here for you to finish your report! You really are an idiot, you think you can still report to the police at a time like this? Oh, maybe you’re thinking of looking for a judge? Idiot.” Hong Qingyi said with a voice full of ridicule. She picked up the table that was lying on the side and picked up all the water bottles as well. Then using a broom not too far away, seh sweeped up the mess that fell onto the ground towards the boy. She deliberately sweeped some of the snacks crumbs into his face and it got into his clothes and hair as he just stood there looking at them.
“You!” The boy looked up at them bitterly.
“What is going on?” Duan Hongwu walked in at this time while carrying a lot of things in his arms. He glanced at Wen Shenghao and the others, but didn’t seem to mind their presence as he looked away a second later to turn his attention to the boy on the ground. Then without saying anything, he directly walked past the boy on the ground and completely ignored him.
No one reached out a hand to help the boy kneeling on the ground, not even the other two men and women who were in his group. They simply stayed quiet, as if they were watching a show.
He clenched his teeth and used the wall beside him to prop himself up. He swept his eyes across the room, his eyes full of hatred as he staggered into the nearest room and slammed the door behind him.
“Eldest Young Miss, this type of person is one that needs to be left behind immediately, or else they will stab us in the back eventually.” Wen Shenghao frowned and said.
“Don’t worry, I have my own plans for him.” Mu Qingli said indifferently and then took a sip of the juice Gu Anran gave her.
After the four other college students left, Wen Shenghao and the others introduced themselves. Among Wen Shenghao’s group of 13 people, there are five people with supernatural powers. One with a strength ability, two with earth abilities, one with the rare invisibility ability, and one speed ability. The ratio of ability users was quite high.
Among the 19 people gathered (excluding the five ordinary college students) there were 11 supernatural ability users. With this, they can easily survive the apocalypse. Furthermore, except for the 12-year-old boy, everyone else who didn’t have a power practice some form of martial arts. As long as their opponents didn’t have any heavy firearms, their combat power was quite high. Plus, they did just collect a lot of ammunition and guns that could be used to further their offensive power. With this, they could easily sweep away any and all opponeents.
“Alright, take them out.” Mu Qingli gestured.
Take what out?
Gu Anran’s silent question was immediately answered as everyone took out the crystals they had collected. There were over a hundred crystals per person and even the little boy took out about 50 crystals. Gu Anran also took out her crystals after watching them without a word. In the end, nearly 2000 crystals were piled onto the table and shined with a pretty light.
With these many crystals, this meant this group had been collecting crystals from the beginning! Gu Anran even felt that these people were simply a team dedicated to collecting crystals. But how was this possible? It’s only been a few days since zombies have appeared, so how did this group of people know to collect the crystals from the zombies’ heads?
“Are any of the others here?” Mu Qingli asked as she studied the crystals on the table.
“Yes. According to your orders, we have been collecting crystals from every zombie we have seen. We did not let a single zombie go and others within the triad have reported back that they are aware of their orders.” Wen Shenghao replied.
So they really were a crystal-collecting team! Has the plot really collapsed to such an extent? The phones no longer work, so how could they have communicated with each other? Gu Anran looked at both Mu Qingli and Wen Shenghao with amazement.
“We have a special way of communicating information.” Mu Qingli noticed Gu Anran’s gaze and took out a thumb-sized black device that looked somewhat like a walkie-talkie.
“But Eldest Young Miss, how will you use these crystals? These things can’t be crushed, so if we bite on them, won’t they break our teeth?!” Qiong Li, the strength ability user, picked up a crystal and squeezed it, but no cracks appeared no matter how much strength was used. The crystal’s hardness was quite formidable.
“Don’t worry, just throw it into your mouth and it will belt by itself.” Hong Qingyi grabbed a crystal and stretched out her tongue. She placed a crystal on her tongue and the hard crystal that even a strength ability user couldn’t crush melted easily when it touched her saliva. Like magic, the crystal melted into a pool of transparent liquid that looked a lot like saliva from a glance.
“Remember, if you want to increase your strength, you must earn these crystals with your own ability. Make sure to ingest these crystals immediately tonight, after all, strength means everything now.” Mu Qingli swept her gaze over the room with a serious expression.
Later in the evening, everyone was arranged in different rooms. Gu Anran, Hong Qingyi, Chi Mengyan, and Mu Qingli were all in the same room. The four did not speak as they sat cross-legged and began to ingest their crystals.
From what Gu Anran remembers, one needs to eat 30 crystals to reach Tier-1, 90 for Tier-2, and 270 for Tier-3. Of course, this is only based on ordinary zombies’ crystals. If you are able to kill a Tier-1 zombie and ingest their crystal, then your strength will increase exponentially. The higher tier the zombie, the better their crystal.
As for Mu Qingli who has two powers and Duan Hongwu who has a special power, they need twice the amount of crystals to increase their powers, but the results are worth it. Their overall combat power is much better than others, so their slow growth was a boon rather than a curse.
By tonight, most of the group will have reached at least Tier-1 and some may be able to reach Tier-2. As for the ordinary humans with no powers, they can still improve their physique if they ingest the crystals. Although their growth is not as exaggerated as those with abilities, their physical foundation will be improved. Much like exercising, over time, they become faster, stronger, and their stamina increases. In short, there is still an effect, just not as significant.
The next morning, everyone had finished upgrading their abilities. They were either at the peak of Tier-1 or at Tier-2 and their average combat strength directly rose in turn. They now were able to control their abilities and could use it more freely, causing most of them to fight the zombies even more enthusiastically than before. While ordinary humans may run when they saw zombies coming, this group of ability users rushed forward in excitement.
However, they did not grow complacent and continued to spend every day training. After all, the zombies will continue to evolve until only those with supernatural abilities can kill them.
