Chapter 103- Apocalypse (4)
“Hah….” Gu Anran yawned. That little argument just now did not diminish the mood as everyone continued collecting supplies.
“Should we head directly into the city now?”
“No, we need to go to the police station first and then refuel the car.” Mu Qingli replied.
“Police station? Are we getting firearms?” Gu Anran asked. The only good the police station can offer right now is firearms. After all, who is going to make a report or ask for help from the police when there are zombies knocking down their doors? Only the really brain-dead would go running to the police for help, so that only left the firearms.
However, normal firearms were only effective for Tier-2 zombies and below. They were completely ineffective against Tier-3 zombies and above, it can’t even pierce their decayed skin. Eventually, firearms would become useless for anything except to intimidate ordinary people, but for now, firearms are humans best protective amulet.
“En….although we have some guns, we don’t have many bullets so we need to find some spare mags.” Mu Qingli explained.
“You have a gun?” Gu Anran raised her eyebrows. Although Mu Qingli and Duan Hongwu are the heirs to the big underworld groups, they were heavily hidden away for their own safety. Even at school, no bodyguards were arranged so as to protect their identities and any weapons they were given could be easily hidden. However, they were trained in martial arts and thus could take down many people at once. So these two heirs had no need for weapons, but there were actually guns hidden in this car?
“In here.” Chi Mengyan dug out four handguns from who knows where. This was actually the first time Gu Anran came into such close contact with a gun.
“Take it.” Mu Qingli grabbed one of the guns and handed it to Gu Anran.
“For me?” Gu Anran held the gun with some surprise.
“En…one per person.” Mu Qingli nodded and grabbed one of the other guns which she promptly clipped to the belt on her waist. That little movement drew Gu Anran’s eyes and it was only then that she noticed that Mu Qingli was wearing a holster. It seems that she was prepared ahead of time.
“But we don’t know how to use guns.” Hong Qingyi hesitated as she inspected her gun.
“We’ll teach you later.” Chi Mengyan said nonchalantly and then grabbed a spare holster to tie around Hong Qingyi’s waist.
“I don’t need it.” Gu Anran waved away the holster Chi Mengyan handed to her and put the handgun directly into her storage bracelet instead. Chi Mengyan did not seem surprised by this so that meant that Mu Qingli had spoken to her about this earlier.
“But wouldn’t it be a bad idea to get firearms like this? After all…” Gu Anran glanced at the car behind them.
Qingli and the others should have noticed the envious and disgusting looks in the eyes of the group of college boys earlier. Although the girls were better at hiding their feelings, Gu Anran could see the jealousy in their eyes as well.
During the apocalypse, most people act irrationally. They clearly have a common enemy and should be fighting together, but instead they fight with each other. What is the use of being jealous? It won’t help either of us, and especially won’t help your chances.
Human life also becomes the least valuable commodity as even zombies had crystal cores that could give people with supernatural abilities the chance to improve their strength. Meanwhile, ordinary people simply become a waste of food unless they have some special skills or something.
During her pondering, Gu Anran thought about quickly killing some zombies to rack up enough points to buy a big enough space storage where she can grow some food. Then they would have a steady supply of food and be able to build up a safe base much faster.
“I know what you mean….so we’ll split up.” Mu Qingli said calmly.
Gu Anran nodded and looked out the window quietly. They moved very quickly and arrived at a gas station. Looking at the meters on the gas pumps, they were still mostly full meaning that not many people were rushing to leave the city. Probably because they were still hoping for rescue from the government or military.
They got out of their cars and while Chi Mengyan was refueling the car, Duan Hongwu came over.
“We need to get to the outskirts of the city before dark.” Duan Hongwu held up a map and highlighted a route on it.
At night, the zombies become more active. One could say that zombies are night owls as they are quite lazy during the day, but become alive when night falls.
“En….we still have enough time, so I think we should get some daily necessities first.” Mu Qingli said with her arms crossed.
“I agree, we don’t have enough clothing and equipment that can keep us warm. I think we should go…..”
While they discussed their plans, Gu Anran took the time to search the gas station while taking care of a few wandering zombies. Her eyes lit up when they landed on a few empty oil drums. She grabbed one and returned to the car.
Meanwhile, one of the college boys ran into the convenience store next to the gas station where the other 4 college students were resting. Who knows if these people really are reincarnated starving ghosts or something but they were constantly eating and stuffing their food into their pockets.
“Anran, why did you come back with an empty oil drum?” Hong Qingyi walked over and asked.
“Our oil supply is limited, so we can store some more in these empty oil drums. Otherwise we’ll quickly run out of gasoline and won’t be able to refuel it when we need it the most.” Gu Anran set the oil drum down.
“I’ll help you.” Chi Mengyan, who had just finished refueling the car, walked over with the grease gun and started pumping some into the drum.
“Give me one too.” Song Wenyan also walked over with a smile and took the other oil drum away.
“Qingyi, you can go inside and get some more. The more the better.” Gu Anran patted Hong Qingyi on the shoulder, and then walked to the car.
Hmm…if they want the oil drums to fit, they’ll need to clear some space. Gu Anran raised her hand and took out some supplies from her bracelet and cleared enough space to keep two oil drums.
So enough, six barrels of gasoline stood in front of her and with a wave of her hand she stored them in her bracelet as Mu Qingli and Duan Hongwu made their way over.
“We have to continue forward and reach the outskirts of the city before dark.” Duan Hongwu said.
“I thought we were going to collect some guns?” Hong Qingyi asked.
“Yes, we’re still doing that, but we plan on finding a safe place to stay overnight before going outside to search for firearms.”” Mu Qingli explained, “While we search for firearms, we’ll also collect some daily necessities. After all, we may have to camp out while we make our way to City A. That means we need to prepare coats, blankets, and tents.”
“Are they going to search with us?” Chi Mengyan pointed to the boys, who were throwing a bunch of snacks into their car, with a hint of disdain in her eyes.
“If they want supplies, they will have to collect it by themselves. We will not help them. If they die, then they die.” Duan Hongwu glanced coldly at the five people with her arms folded.
“Let’s split up the work. Anran and I will go to the police station and collect the firearms. Hongwu and Wenyan will go together as one group and Mengyan and Qingyi can stay in our cars.” Mu Qingli said, “As for whether the others want to go out, just let them do what they want.”
The six of them reached an agreement and soon returned to their cars. Then they closed the doors and left.
“Fuck, they’re leaving!” The leading boy yelled as he ran towards the car with an armful of food. The others quickly reacted and hurriedly ran to catch up.
Shua….
The boys threw the food into the car haphazardly, as long as the supplies are in the car they can find it later. They barely waited for the others to sit down before the driver stepped down hard onto the accelerator and tried to catch up.
“Hisss…can’t you be more careful?!” One of the girls complained as she clutched her head.
“Stop being so noisy, we can leave you behind if you’re discontent.” The boy turned around and glared at the girl. His ugly expression made the girl purse her lips and her eyes flashed with anger, resentment, and disdain towards the boy.
In order to get to the outskirts of the city before dark, none of them stopped for lunch and simply ate some cookies and bread to fill up their stomachs a bit.
However, Gu Anran and the others had a rather good lunch because they had a variety of sweets, cookies, dried fruit, and meat they had packed away. Gu Anran also planned on upgrading the space bracelet soon to hold more food.
Soon they arrived at a small motel that they decided to use as a temporary base. They ate their dinner quickly before Duan Hongwu gathered everyone and explained what they were going to do.
HOwever, one of the boys started complaining, saying they were too tired from today so why should they go out and search for more supplies.
“You don’t have to search with us but once we’re in the wild, you’re going to have to sleep in your car or sleep on the ground.”
One sentence from Duan Hongwu shut up the college students and they no longer dared to complain. Although they still wore their dissatisfaction on their faces, they cooperated in the end.
This had nothing to do with Gu Anran and Mu Qingli, so they headed straight towards the police station.
Shuaa….
She cut down two zombies before nimbly digging out their crystals. Gu Anran turned her head to see that Mu Qingli also cut down her zombies in a similar effortless manner. Like Gu Anran, she was able to kill a zombie with one move.
“Anran, do you know what these crystals can do?” Mu Qingli said while looking at the crystal in her hand.
“You can use them to improve your abilities and strengthen your body.” Gu Anran said with a shrug.
“Hmm…really?” Mu Qingli put the crystal in her pocket and continued her massacre of the zombies that wandered over to them.
The two of them continued killing zombies that cross their paths, collecting countless crystals and points that made Gu Anran very happy.
If a normal person walked upon these two crazy females, they would probably scream. In the early days of the apocalypse, there were very few people who could kill zombies, much less women. So if two women with unnatural abilities rushed up to ruthlessly kill zombies with a happy look on their face, if they weren’t lunatics that what were they?
Gu Anran had made some space in her bracelet so that as she ran around chaotically she could simply “suck up” the zombies into the bracelet.
「Ding! The number of points has met the threshold. Upgrade the storage space?」The system notified her.
Finally! Gu Anran didn’t care how many points it cost to upgrade the system, but she did require that the system send out a reminder when the threshold is met.
“Yes, I want to upgrade.” Gu Anrna whispered.
「Ding! Confirming the user’s answer and beginning the upgrade. The remaining time till completion is one minute…50 seconds….35….20….5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Upgrade complete.」
Gu Anran looked into the bracelet and saw that the space was now 2x as large. Now she can fit even more things in there.
This was even better than having a credit card and going on a shopping spree. She can just wave her hand and things will come to her without her having to do much.
Gu Anran ran through the store, waving her hands with a bright smile on her face as more supplies disappeared into her bracelet.
“Anran, your bracelet won’t have enough space.” Mu Qingli raised an eyebrow as she watched Gu Anran’s aggressive waving.
“My bracelet can be upgraded and since I upgraded just now the space has been doubled.” Gu Anran shook her bracelet with a smile.
“Oh? Such a good thing? Why don’t you offer it to this young master as tribute?” An arrogant voice suddenly sounded.
