Chapter 66- Beastmen (7)

The sky darkened, and usually, the little beasts would be asleep at this time. However, a huge campfire illuminated the darkness, the raging flames brightening the dark grasslands as crowds of beastmen gathered with jubilant expressions on their faces.

Two big canopies were set up not too far away that were responsible for food preparation. One side held only meat while the other side held only vegetable dishes. Just like a buffet, the chef will set the cooked food onto the table while the rest got to pick what they wanted to eat. The delicious aroma permeated through the entire grasslands and this made the hungry Gu Anran couldn’t help but gulp a little.

“It’s so lively! People are dancing too!” Mu Qingli commented happily as she bounced in her seat. Gu Anran followed her gaze and sure enough, there was a group of beastmen happily playing instruments while another group danced to the tune. There were no fixed dance moves as everyone moved their bodies freely with the rhythm. Every single one of their faces was lit up with a smile and only added more excitement to the mood.

“Whooooo! Anran, Qingli, let’s go eat first! They have all kinds of food here! Smells delicious!” Hong Qingyi ran towards them with Chi Mengyan following behind. Seems like they had already taken a stroll around the place.

“Qingli, let’s go eat first. Then we can play and have fun.” Gu Anran coaxed Mu Qingli.

“Alright.” Mu Qingli readily agreed, as after a day full of events she truly was hungry.

Since they had different types of diet, the three carnivores split from Mu Qingli and agreed to meet up again later.

Hmmmm….smells good…..They approached the meat buffet and the smell of sizzling meat on the grill, simmering in the pans and boiling in the pots made them drool.

Gu Arnan felt herself drool as well. There weren’t many beastmen lined up as the little beasts were separated from them into two lines. Otherwise, it would be quite chaotic.

Soon it was their turn and Gu Anran approached the older sister beastman in charge of the food. The food was separated into three baskets for them and the beastman took out an item similar to a horse saddle. However, this saddle was much smaller than the ones on earth and was made of vines that formed some kinda net on both sides.

“In a second, I will tie this around your waist along with your baskets of food. Remember to return it to that big sister over there once you are done! There are still many little beasts who wish to eat and a limited number of saddles!” The woman then pointed at another beastman not too far away who was untying the saddles for a little beast who had finished.

“Got it!” x3

Gu Anran waited patiently as the saddle was tied around her waist. The vines were relatively loose and made the baskets hanging from the side droop lightly but it did not hinder her movements. It was a rather convenient design for the little beasts who didn’t have hands to hold plates.

Thanks to the help of the older beastman, the three of them were able to get their food and then walked towards their meeting spot. Mu Qingli was already sitting there while waiting for them with several plates of vegetables around her. A lot of carrots were on those plates, which wasn’t a surprise as that is the staple food for rabbits. She seemed to be happily eating a piece as she watched the three of them approach. She happily licked her paws and then helped them set down their baskets full of food.

“Today’s food is of much better quality than usual!” Mu Qingli bounced happily, her eyes lit up with joy as she licked her lips again.

“That’s for sure! After all, today is considered a holiday after all. There is bound to be more food than usual and of better quality too.” Hong QIngyi nudged the basket so the food tumbled out.

“I think I might go for seconds later.” Gu Anran looked at the food on the plates around her, her stomach grumbling happily in anticipation.

“Hey, don’t eat first! Remember to return the saddles and baskets first.” Chi Mengyan looked helplessly at the two idiotic foodies and sighed.

“Of course we didn’t forget about that!” Hong Qingyi jumped up to protest, but the flicker of ‘oops I forgot’ that passed through her eyes betrayed her thoughts.

“Heng.” Chi Mengyan of course noticed that flicker to but only coldly snorted as she picked up the basket.

“It’s better if you keep silent during these moments. That way you wouldn’t get hurt~ Idiot~” Gu Anran passed Hong Qingyi with a look of contempt on her face as she teased her friend.

Hong Qingyi who had received two looks filled with contempt: …..

Gu Anran and the others quickly returned the trolls and then happily ate their meals. They each had at least three large plates stacked with food and a bowl of soup. Although that amount could satisfy 2-3 humans, it was not much to a little beast. Especially a beast who is extremely hungry after exercising a lot. All in all, it was a piece of cake for them.

“Huuuu….well, I’m satisfied.” Gu Anran said lazily and then let out a content sigh. Her stomach finally felt filled. Although she wasn’t exactly full yet, she felt much better than her hungry self form before.

“I’m going to go get some more.” Hong QIngyi looked at the never-ending buffet table with longing.

“Idiot! You can eat any time you want, now’s the time to look around!” Chi Mengyan snorted as she slapped her tail against Hong Qingyi’s head.

“Yeah! Yeah! Let’s go over there and take a look!” Mu Qingli pointed to something not too far away. It was a group of sweating little beasts and it seems they were playing some games that the beastmen had come up with for the little beasts.

They took a quick walk around the dancing beastmen and arrived at what looked like a night market. Or maybe like a carnival as there was no food but mainly games and entertainment there.

Mu Qingli stopped excitedly in front of the first game’s stand. It was something similar to the ring toss game back on earth. There were many small objects in front of them from rough dolls, balls, and food. There were many prizes one could win from this game. All they had to do was land a small ring made of vines around their target.

“Come on! Let’s all play together!” Mu Qingli handed Gu Anran and the others some vine rings she had bought from the beastman in charge of the stand.

Looking at the five vine rings in his hand, Gu Anran pursed her lips and gently elbowed Hong Qingyi beside her.

“Say…what do you think I should get?”

“How should I know?” Hong Qingyi looked at the things on the table with blank eyes. The common sense and values in this world were much different than on earth. Usually, the prizes were much smaller with things like expensive wine, remote control airplanes, and other high-end prizes on the top shelf. Of course, the higher-end prizes were always the hardest to win but at least they were worth it! The prizes here….are all completely boring!

Of course, only Gu Anran and Hong Qingyi thought this way. Seeing the endless stream of beasts lining up for this game, one could tell that to the beasts the prizes were worth something. However….what can they do with the toys? And the dolls, although their workmanship was quite good, there really wasn’t anything unique to them.

There was also another game where you can throw a ball to try to knock down pieces of wood that were standing upright. If you can knock down six, you get a prize. It was almost like the shooting game back on earth.

“Hey, your little wifey seems to be experiencing difficulties!” Hong Qingyi nudged Gu Anran teasingly.

Gu Anran turned her head towards Mu Qingli.

It turns out that Mu Qingli took a fancy to a doll that looked like a carrot. It was about the same size as Gu Anran. It was the largest among the dolls but the most detailed. And that prize was also in the farthest position, all the way in the back row.

There were nearly twenty different circle rings around the carrot and one could tell that Mu Qingli was trying her best. Gu Anran could tell that the rabbit really wanted that doll.

“Quick, show off your skills! Go! Become the hero that saves the beauty!” Hong Qingyi smiled strangely and then stuffed a bunch of rings into Gu Anran’s arms.

Don’t look down on GU Anran as although she and Hong Qingyi are both otakus, they were also foodies who loved to visit night markets where they can eat and play games.

Between the two of them, Hong Qingyi was the best at shooting darts while GU Anran was the best at the circle game. She would only use 2-3 rings out of the allotted five to get what she wanted from video games to 3c products. If a stand had 3c products, 90% of them would end up being brought home by these two!

“I know, I know.” Gu Anran rolled her wrists and pinched the vine ring ah…..this was much harder than the plastic rings on earth. The weight is different and much slimmer too.

The feeling wasn’t the same but she continued until she reached her last ring. Although the rings didn’t cost money so she could try as many times as she wanted to, most people who reached their last ring would always think “Ah, this is my last ring, how can I win if all my previous ones didn’t make it?” Then with that mentality, they would just randomly throw it.

But Gu Anran was different. Anyone with a discerning eye can detect that with each throw Gu Anran’s throws got more and more accurate. However, since there were many people playing, no one noticed her. And so, Gu Anran threw out her last ring with a confident smile….

Mu Qingli pursed her lips. This was already her 23rd ring toss but she still missed the carrot doll she longed for. She grew irritated as she kept missing over and over again and now she was just blanking throwing her rings. She would not give up! She would just keep getting more rings until she gets her prize!

Just when her twenty-third ring flew from her hand, she watched as one ring flew by hers at a perfect arc when….it hit the doll!

Mu Qingli watched as the beastman in charge of the stand took down the carrot doll and her rabbit eyes grew red, tears started to form. She blew her nose sadly and turned around…

Pu….

Her face was suddenly buried into something soft.

She stepped back in confusion. Why did this look so familiar? Isn’t this the carrot doll she wanted!

“Here, Qingli, you can have it.” Gu Anran smiled wholeheartedly.

“Give…it to me.” Mu Qingli looked at Gu Anran’s with wide eyes. She didn’t expect the prize she thought she had lost to suddenly appear in front of her. The other party even wanted to give it to her. The overwhelming joy in her heart made her freeze.

“Didn’t you say you wanted it? I thought it would be better if the two of us both try to get it. After all, two heads are better than one.” Gu Anran looked at Mu Qingli’s shocked little face with a trace of embarrassment.

“Thank you!” Mu Qingli hugged the carrot doll tightly.

“As long as you like it!” Seeing her wifey’s happy expression, Gu Anran got swept up in the atmosphere and her eyes softened.

Suddenly she noticed that Mu Qingli was looking at her blankly and couldn’t help but ask,

“What’s wrong? Is there something strange on my face?” Gu Anran looked down at herself.

“No…no.” Mu Qingli whispered.

“But….” Gu Anran was interrupted by Mu Qingli before she could finish,

“Ah! Anran, I want to play that!” Mu QIngli said as she hugged the doll tightly, leaving behind a dumbfounded Gu Anran.

Mu Qingli used the cover of the crowd to put a paw against her chest. She couldn’t tell Gu Anran that she was dazed by the wolf’s smile! Listening to her thumping heart, Mu QIngli felt at a loss. Would someone tell her why she felt like this?

Suddenly, she saw a familiar figure not too far away and made her way over to them…..
