Chapter 85- ABO Interstellar (15)
“This is the place.” Gu Anran looked around curiously.
At this moment, they were in a jungle, surrounded by towering trees and howling of wild animals that sounded out from time to time.
Each group landed in a different place and was teleported to all corners of the planet.
“Let’s go find a water source first!” Mu Qingli decided.
To survive in the wilderness, the most important task was to find a water source. Although one could obtain water from the plants, it is not the same as a small creek or stream. Furthermore, they were to survive here for not just three days, but an entire month, thus a water source was rather important.
“Oh, one group has already been eliminated.” Hong Qingyi turned on the holographic interface of her chip. The chips in their wrists have been locked down and restricted from communications with the outside world. They were now only connected to the military academy’s system so they could check their rankings and contact a rescue team if needed.
“Already?” Gu Anran was astonished, it hasn’t even been three minutes since they’ve landed.
“They probably encountered a problem at their teleportation location.” Chi Mengyan clicked the screen, and a short video appeared. In order to ensure the fairness of the competition, every team was recorded during the duration of the trip. The video that played revealed how the first team was disqualified.
They really were too unlucky as this group of students had teleported directly into a nest. They were besieged on all sides the moment they were stabilized. Fortunately, the piloting students responded quickly and took out the mechas and used them as shields to block their team. Otherwise, if they had waited for the rescue team, they would have been torn to shreds.
“Seems like teleportation depends on lady luck after all!” Hong Qingyi sighed.
“Let’s get going, we should be able to find a water source that way.” Lin Cai spoke up, changing the subject as she took out a dagger and cut through some plants, then pointed in a direction.
Mu Qingli and the others followed her, but they were not in a hurry as they still had at least three days to find a water source.
Along the way, they met some beasts and fought with them, but it was not clear as to how the points were calculated. All they knew was that after hunting down three beasts, their score was 230. It seems that the number of points per beast were different for each beast.
They decided to take a break and eat something before continuing. Of course, everything that had to do with cooking was left to Hong Qingyi. After all, the rest of them were basically kitchen killers. Even if technically they were out in the open with no kitchen in sight doesn’t mean they won’t mess up the food.
They also decided not to touch the three day’s worth of food that was given to them unless it was for emergencies. Since they could hunt for their own food, there was no need to touch the supplies that could be useful later.
“The top three have already accumulated a few thousand points!” Gu Anran looked at the ranking list and exclaimed.
The first place is as high as 5500, the second place is 4350, and the third place is 4010. Just how many beasts did they kill? And after killing so many, did they even eat them? Isn’t this a waste of meat? Gu Anran frowned.
“Don’t worry. When we were receiving our supplies earlier, one of the teachers told us that if the beasts we hunted are left behind, someone else will arrive later to help clean it up so the resources won’t be wasted. After all, meat is a precious resource or the empire.” Mu Qingli smoothed out Gu Anran’s wrinkled brows. She didn’t like seeing Gu Anran’s unhappy expression, only a smile should ever adorn that beautiful face.
“Hey, the meat is ready!” Hong Qingyi waved as beside her Chi Mengyan helped her wipe the sweat from her forehead.
“So fast?” Gu Anran asked with surprise.
Don’t ask her why she’s surprised, this is the normal reaction! With three alphas, although they had only hunted three beasts, they had hunted a chicken, a cow, and a wild boar.
And the creatures here are 2-3 times bigger than the pens on earth. Even the cows were much taller than a regular-sized man.
“Of course, idiot! It’s just some simple grilling and you should hurry and eat it while it’s still hot!” Hong Qingyi rolled her eyes.
Gu Anran: “…..” Annoying! But they have to rely on Hong Qingyi for their meals this month so she has to keep smiling! For the sake of her stomach, Gu Anran endured fighting with her friend.
The skin was tender and soft, and a sweet fragrance burst out when one bit into it . It was really delicious. Looking at the pile of meat beside her, Gu Anran had a feeling that the pile would disappear soon.
Sure enough, the pile of meat was quickly consumed by the hungry alphas. Everyone licked their lips and thought….there seems to be a delicious advantage to living in the wild?
Hong Qingyi kicked the burning firewood into some soil to extinguish it, and Chi Mengyan poured some water for her so she could wash her hands. Hong Qingyi clapped her hands together and said,
“Alright, let’s go and find that water source. Otherwise we’ll be running out of water pretty soon.”
“Yes, let’s quickly get going, we also need to find a suitable palace to set up camp.” Mu Qingli said as she slung her backpack over her back.
The group of people walked through the unusually dense forest, relying on Mu Qingli to open a path in the front and Chi Qmgyan to guard their backs. In this formation, they were able to make it through the woods safely.
Just as they passed through the woods and into a clearing, they spotted a clear stream up ahead and with the sun shining up above, it looked like the entire stream was sparkling.
“En, this place shall do.” Chi Mengyan surveyed the area and pointed to the flat grounds up ahead.
“Then let’s set up first. I’ll go find some large stones we could use. Mengyan and Lin Cai will set up the tents.” After Mu Qingli finished speaking, she walked towards the pile of rocks not too far away.
“Qingyi, let’s go catch some fish.” Since everyone else was working hard, the two of them couldn’t be idle either and Gu Anran made a suggestion.
“Ok, ok! This will be my first time fishing!” Hong Qingyi rolled up her sleeves and walked happily to the stream.
The stream was about one meter long, not very deep, it only went up halfway up the calf, and many fish were swimming leisurely in the shallow waters.
“Are you going to catch it with your bare hands?” Gu Anran hesitated as she looked at the fish.
“Let’s try it first!” Hong Qingyi said, and then quickly slapped her hands together as she tried to catch one of the fishes in the water, but the fish quickly slipped away without her even managing to even touch the scales.
Hong Qingyi did not give up and tried a few more times. One time, she was able to grab onto a fish’s tail, but it quickly freed itself and she got splashed with a big wave of water instead.
“Argh, forget it! I don’t want to catch them anymore.” Hong Qingyi angrily touched the water that was all over her face, and made her way back to the shore.
“But it’s such a rare opportunity to run across such a clear stream, it would be wasteful not to catch at least a few.” Gu Anran followed Hong Qingyi ashore and looked at the water in thought.
“Anran, Qingyi.” Mu Qingli’s voice called out from behind them.
“Is anything the matter?” Hong Qingyi replied.
“Mengyan and I will go scout out the nearby forest and see if we can hunt anything for today’s dinner. If there are enough beasts, we will discuss it and decide to try our best to earn at least 3000 points by tonight.” Mu Qingli explained.
“We’re fine with that! But remember to be careful and run away if there’s any danger. Don’t try to face dangerous beasts head-on.” Gu Anran nodded and patted some rock dust off of Mu Qingli’s clothes.
「Ding! The female lead’s rating has increased by (5) and is now at (80).」
“En, I know! Lin Cai will stay behind and accompany you.” Mu Qingli nodded with a smile.
The two of them turned around and left, meanwhile Lin Cai was hammering the wooden stakes for the tents on the side….that’s it!
“Qingyi! Come over here and help me!” Gu Anran waved.
“Oh, coming!” Hong Qingyi hurried over.
Gu Anran found a thick tree trunk and chopped a few slits through it, en…although it was somewhat heavy, she could still move it with effort!
“Put this tree trunk over there and I’ll put mine here. Then the fish won’t be able to move out.” Gu Anran commanded.
The two of them worked together and separated a 5-meter long section of the stream. There were about twenty fish swimming idly inside the separated section.
“Alright, now slowly roll towards the center.” Gu Anran shouted, while slowly pushing the tree forward. Due to the slits in the tree trunk, the water did not spread out and instead circulated through the holes. However, the holes were small enough that only water but not fish could get through.
The five meters soon turned into one and a bunch of fish were forcibly squished together in a small space and were frantically swimming over one another. It seemed like they had also noticed that their surrounding environment was not quite right.
“Huuuu…huuuu….what should we do now?” Hong Qingyi wiped the sweat on her cheeks.
“Lin Cai, do you have any cloth!” Gu Anran shouted behind her while holding onto her tree trunk.
Lin Cai put down the thing in her hand and rummaged through her bag before running over. Gu Anran was a little surprised to see it was a towel and a very familiar one at that.
“I took this from the spaceship.” Lin Cai explained lightly, as if he was aware of Gu Anran’s thoughts.
Pfff….so smart, taking advantage of the academy! Gu Anran sighed in approval.
They used the towel to catch the fish and although one or two were able to escape, they were alive to get a total of 15 fish in the end. Each fish was pretty big, about the same size as a carp back on earth!
“Qingyi, you deal with the fish first. We don’t have any tools that allow us to preserve it so you’ll have to work fast and smoke or salt them.” Gu Anran handed the knife to Hong Qingyi.
“Ok, leave it to me.” Hong Qingyi nodded and started to handle the jumping fish that were still very much alive.
“Lin Cai, do you know how to recognize wild vegetables?” Gu Anran asked as she fiddled with a plant next to her.
“Well…I can recognize some plants, but not all of them. Most of the plants that I do recognize are herbs and not suitable for eating in large amounts.” Lin Cai explained and made her way to a nearby bush. She rummaged around and then pulled out a handful of green shoots.
“If you want to find some vegetables that can be eaten, there are a few here. Do you want to pick some?”
“Yes.” Gu Anran nodded. It’s not a good thing to eat meat every day, they need to balance out their diet with some greens.
Lin Cai saw that there were no wild beasts nearby so she ventured out a little farther in the forest to find some suitable plants. There were more fiddleheads in the forests than in the clearing, so she planned on grabbing some there and coming back with an armful.
Meanwhile, Gu Anran focused on picking the nearby vegetables. She wiped the sweat on her forehead as she worked and placed the picked wild vegetables onto a nearby large leaf.
Suddenly, she felt something was wrong, as a shadow appeared above her, and a rustling sound was heard.
Gu Anran raised her head. A huge bug stared back at her. About the size of two basketballs, it had eyes like a fly but those eyes were about the size of a fist. Six hard and thin legs branched out of its body and were currently moving up and down in a disturbing manner. It had a pair of cold looking fangs in its mouth and some green saliva dripped down its face.
A Zerg.
