Chapter 87- ABO Interstellar (17)
Shua! Shua! Shua!
Two mechas ran wildly in the woods, weaving through the thick overgrowth.
“Right, right, go to the right! There’s a cliff on the left!” Lin Cai stood on the dark red mecha, her hands clenched tightly on the metal to prevent herself from being thrown off in the chaos.
Meanwhile, Gu Anran and Hong Qingyi were both carefully held in one hand of each mecha, while the other hand of the mechas waved around a sword to slice through the various obstacles in front of them.
At this moment, there was a large crowd of beasts behind them, including an angry herd of Zergs following closely behind them.
Damn it….Gu Anran pursed her lips silently, a dark look on her face as she reached out a hand to wipe the leaves that had flown into her face. She glared at the Zergs behind them with burning fury.
She hadn’t expected Ji Zijun to make his move so soon. In the last two weeks, they were able to firmly place themselves into first place, with a score twice as much as the second palace team.
However, since that first night, the Zergs would unexpectedly show up around them. First there were only dozens, then hundreds and now thousands of them surrounded them. Originally Gu Anran thought they were simply unlikely and happened to land near a Zerg’s nest. However, the Zergs followed wherever they went and so this ‘unlikely phenomenon’ soon seemed too strange to be anything but man-made.
While these strange encounters keep happening, one night Gu Anran woke up to grab a drink of water when she heard people moving outside her tent and talking very quietly. She had unzipped the tent a little bit and peeked out to see what was going on.
A few people in dark clothes surrounded their tents sprinkling some sort of powder around them. At first, she had thought they were people from the academy assigned to protect them, but even if they were, shouldn’t they have alerted Mu Qingli and the others who were on the night watch? Now that she thought about it, those assigned to the night watch often found themselves drowsy and falling asleep so they couldn’t even guard properly. She had first brushed it off thinking they were simply tired out from all the running, but seeing these strange people tiptoeing around put doubts in her heart.
She quietly recorded everything with her hologram device. Although they couldn’t communicate with the outside world, the basic functions such as taking pictures and video recording were still available.
“Hurry up, we have to leave as soon as possible.” The person that seemed to be the leader whispered urgently.
“Don’t worry, they’re all drugged, how could they possibly wake up at this time?” One of the others in black shrugged indifferently.
“Idiot! We must guard against any unexpected possibilities!” The leader said seriously and swatted the other man on the back of the head.
“Here we go again….every single time…” The subordinate mumbled in a disgruntled manner but continued to work.
Once everything was almost done, the leader turned on his device and spoke respectfully into it,
“Major General, everything has been arranged.”
A hologram appeared with Ji Zijun’s face on it. His face was currently a little flushed and his eyes a little out of focus as he lazily replied to the leader,
“En…I see. Remember to keep yourselves hidden near them. When they’re in danger, wait for the three alphas to….Hey, lick a little harder! Trash!” A woman’s cry sounded out and some slurping sounds could be heard. Soon Ji Zijun’s expression returned to the lazy and relaxed state.
“Yes, this subordinate understands.” The leader’s voice remained flat and neutral, as if he hadn’t noticed the strange noises, and he nodded once before turning off the device.
“Tsk, tsk, I hope I can have some fun like the general when we return.” The subordinate from earlier said as he clicked his tongue.
“Shut up. We’re leaving once you’re done.” The leader waved his hand and a forest green mecha appeared. He jumped into the mecha and left.
The scene she had witnessed made Gu Anran’s eyes narrow. After all that, it wasn’t that hard to put two and two together. What surprised her was that Zijun had sent five mechas of such a level after them. A mecha that can easily fly into the sky must be at least a fourth level or higher mecha.
Ji Zijun, you’re done for! I will let you taste complete defeat and fall from grace! Gu Anran thought and gritted her teeth.
Back to the present, their group was currently fleeing from another group of Zergs that had been attracted by the strange powder.
“Qingli, Mengyan, we can’t get rid of them if we continue to retreat! We must kill them off one by one!” Gu Anran shouted towards the mecha’s pilot cabin.
“One of you can carry all of us while the other will engage in a battle of attrition with the Zergs. Kill as many as you can, but don’t get too close.”
The moment Gu Anran finished speaking, she was immediately moved to Chi Mengyan’s hand that was originally holding her weapon, and Lin Cai swiftly jumped onto the blue mecha.
Gu Anran watched as Mu Qingli wielded two swords to fight, but made sure to keep within visible distance of them.
Who knows if it was due to the dense crowd of Zergs or due to Mu Qingli swinging her swords too fast, but the corpses of the Zergs and their green blood splashed everywhere.
Gu Anran paid close attention to Mu Qingli’s mecha. Some parts had been bitten through or corroded by the Zerg’s acid and even the laser swords were looking worse for wear.
“Qingli come back!” Gu Anran yelled. As Mu Qingli rushed over, Gu Anran pulled a fresh mecha from her storage bracelet and Mu Qingli smoothly changed into the mecha. They had done this so many times by now that they didn’t need to say anything to each other.
“Switch!” Gu Anran made sure Mu Qingli had gained control of the new mecha before shouting and immediately she was transferred over to Mu Qingli as Chi Mengyan took out her weapons.
By relying on this tactic, the five of them were eventually able to wipe out the Zergs chasing them. Although they didn’t know if there were any that slipped through their grasp, at the very least the creatures should not be back for a while.
“Are you okay?” Gu Anran wiped Mu Qingli’s face. She and Chi Mengyan were both sweating, and their faces were full of fatigue.
“I’m fine.” Mu Qingli smiled and shook her head.
“Hurry up and eat something to restore your energy.” Hong Qingyi took out some jerky and said.
Fortunately, they had hunted down many beasts a few days ago and turned it into jerky, otherwise they would have starved to death by now.
They ate the jerky along with some herb potions to speed up recovery. If you asked if their meal was tasty, Gu Anran would reply that they were holding back the urge to vomit. Even alphas like Fortunately, a few people hunted a lot of prey into jerky a few days ago, otherwise they would have been so consumed to death.Gu Anran can guarantee that they are about to vomit. Mu Qingli, Chi Mengyan, and Lin Cai can’t stand to eat the same things every day, not to mention the pampered Gu Anran and Hong Qingyi. However, their lives were at stake here so they could only continue eating it.
“Anran, our jerky will last at most another day.” Hong Qingyi said anxiously. Although there were only three days left in the excursion and usually this amount would be ok as long as they rationed it, the current danger required them to intake more food to make up for the physical and mental strength used.
Gu Anran also understood this but it was impossible to make jerky without wasting precious time. If they were to grill the meat, by the time they finished the next batch of Zergs would already be upon them. They couldn’t simply eat raw meat either, wouldn’t that just hurt their stomach?
“Perhaps find some wild fruit to eat.” Lin Cai suggested.
“We can do that, but look at where we are now. Where can you find any fruit here….” Gu Anran smiled bitterly. They weren’t paying attention to where they were running to during the chase. It was a mess all around them, there weren’t any fruit to be found! Even if they retraced their steps, most of the forest was probably covered in the green juice of the Zergs by now. Just thinking about it gave her goosebumps.
“Then we’ll go hunting first. We have to save the rest of the jerky for emergencies only.” Mu Qingli stood up and said.
“You need to lie down and rest!” Gu Anran pushed Mu Qingli back down, “You two are our only defenses against the Zergs. You only need to keep your physical strength up, and we’ll take care of the rest!”
“E-En……” Mu Qingli nodded her head, her face flushing as she glanced at Gu Anran’s clothes from the corner of her eye….
As it turns out, when Gu Anran had pushed Mu Qingli back down just now she had accidentally moved too much and caused the collar of her clothes to droop dowards. As long as one looks down, they could see a bountiful fair chest.
Of course, Mu Qingli’s strange behavior was noticed by Gu Anran who was paying attention to her every move. She lowered her head and saw that her chest was basically exposed to this angle. Her face turned red and then green before she moved away from Muy QIngli.
Mu Qingli looked at Gu Anran timidely with widened eyes, is Anran angry?
In reality, Gu Anran was not angry at Mu Qingli but was upset that now was not a suitable time to play the temptress right now. If they were back in the academy, she would have long dragged Mu Qingli into her droms and pushed her down.
“Lin Cai, can you hunt a few small animals around here?” Gu Anran asked as she glanced at a pile of stones nearby.
“No problem.” Lin Cai nodded.
“Stay close and don’t wander too far off.” After Lin Cai left, Gu Anran turned to Hong QIngyi, “Let’s bring those stones over here.”
The two of them moved the stones together, and also grabbed some wood. They set up the flat stones and then lit a fire.
Lin Cai returned soon with 5-6 rabbits, a few chickens and 2 wild boots.
“Qingyi, cut the meat into small pieces, about as big as a thumb. Lin Cai, hunt a few more animals about the same size. We don’t have time to cook animals as big as cows right now.” Gu Anran ordered.
Gu Anran turned her attention to the now burning flat stone and poured some water over it. Then she placed the meat that Hong Qingyi had cut up on it and immediately frying sounds sizzled into existence. After adding some salt and other spices, Gu Anran cooked the meat on the stone until it turned brown. Then she placed the meat onto some big leaves.
Although Gu Anran was like a clumsy murderer in the kitchen, after watching Hong Qingyi cook for so long, she could more or less cook some simple stir-fried meat.
“Qingli, Mengyan, get up and eat some meat.” Gu Anran called and pushed some meat wrapped in leaves towards them.
“Lin Cai, this should be enough prey for now. Come and eat first.” Just as Lin Cai dropped her third batch of animals and was about to leave again, Gu Anran quickly stopped her and urged her to come and eat.
The five of them cooked and ate without talking, the only sounds that could be heard were the sounds of quick chewing and the sizzling sounds of the meat frying on the stone.
