Chapter 46

Muchen Fei was truly not chatty; this was completely different from Fang Lingying's style. After dealing with her concern about her appearance, she stood with her arms crossed by the tree trunk, watching Buck fetch water, even though her heart was in turmoil.

In fact, Buck wanted to remind her to take off her high heels, which would probably be less tiring, but he thought she might not take his advice, and they weren't that familiar, so he continued with his own business.

There are many ways to find food in the wild. For someone like Buck, who could walk thousands of kilometers back, there was always something to eat. Eating instant noodles would be rather boring.

Walking through the water, stirring up the mud, and startling the fish to the surface, then knocking them out, was a method that, once mastered, had a high success rate. The most important thing was that the tool was simple—a flexible stick would do.

So, the monotonous sound of fishing, the rough and dark man, and the beautiful girl standing silently by the shore formed a stark contrast.

Buck didn't take saving someone's life and purity as a big deal. Muchen Fei felt that everything could be repaid with money. She certainly wouldn't have the motivation to offer herself in return. Being able to watch him quietly was already a kind of blessing for her. She wouldn't admit that he was protecting her, and it seemed natural that he was being good to her or courting her. This was the inevitable psychological tendency that matched her appearance and status. However, she was still trying hard to control the lingering fear and confusion from escaping a terrifying abyss and witnessing a murder, and her expression was well-controlled.

Buck, feeling blessed, had good luck and caught three fat fish over a foot long in the afternoon. After knocking them out, they floated on the water, and he picked them up and threw them to the shore, of course, far from Muchen Fei, who even thought the lake water was dirty. This large lake was famous for its fish, and the remote corners were popular with fishing enthusiasts. Buck had heard about the abundance and size of the fish since he was a child, and he even remembered coming here on a spring outing.

Satisfied, he submerged himself in the water to wash his sweat-soaked shirt, which he used as a towel. He had planned to swim, but he felt the air pressure was off. Looking at the sky, he estimated it would rain at night, which explained why the fish were surfacing and being caught. He glanced at the small black house and decided to get out of the water.

Muchen Fei quickly glanced at Buck's wet pants, which clung to his body, but her expression remained unchanged. Her gaze was unfocused, looking at the distant mountains and clear waters, and she was surprised at how calm she felt, without any anxiety or fear.

Seeing Buck walk back with wet, dripping clothes, Muchen Fei looked at the fish he hadn't picked up, feeling a bit curious but still followed him about six to seven meters away, her steps still elegant despite the high heels.

Passing the small black house, Buck picked up a bottle of water. Inside were a few cases of mineral water, beer, and instant noodles, along with some dirty bowls and a few packs of cigarettes. So Buck took a pack of cigarettes, thinking that these people were really ruthless, not even preparing a few condoms. Were they trying to kill someone?

He continued back to the deep pit where the fight had taken place, jumped in, and Muchen Fei slowly followed. To her surprise, she saw Buck removing the sand and pebbles and stripping the clothes off the corpse!

She couldn't suppress the urge to vomit!

She also vomited out the fear she had been trying to hide...

It wasn't easy to remain calm after nearly being raped and witnessing a murder. She was now trembling all over, her stomach cramping so much that she vomited stomach acid. This was almost the first time Muchen Fei had vomited so violently. Her body, which hadn't eaten lunch, had nothing left to vomit, so she just kept dry heaving.

Buck ignored her and quickly stripped the suit, T-shirt, pants, and shoes off the man in the sunglasses. He regretted making the other bodies so bloody, as he could have had more clothes to change into. The corpse was already stiff, but Buck was skilled and efficient. After finishing, he reburied the body, climbed up with the clothes, and saw Muchen Fei leaning against the tree, her face pale from vomiting. He only glanced at what she had vomited and nodded, "Hmm, you're still healthy; there's no bleeding in your chest or esophagus." Then he went to the water to rinse the clothes, taking advantage of the summer sun to dry them quickly.

Next, he started using a shovel he found in the small black house to cut tree vines, tying them around the tops of three trees in a triangular formation about a meter apart to form a frame. He then used banana leaves to enclose the structure, ensuring it would be a shelter. He wouldn't be so narcissistic as to think the girl would share his bed that night.

However, the seemingly messy banana leaves actually followed the structure of chainmail, ensuring that rain wouldn't leak in. Buck even tied a bed about half a meter off the ground between the three trees!

His movements were very skilled, and he hummed a tune as he worked. By the time he finished laying the bed, it was less than an hour, and the sun was about to set.

Turning around, he started preparing the fish, cutting them into halves and starting a fire to cook them!

Actually, it wasn't grilling; this time it was steaming.

After starting the fire, he dug a pit with the shovel, placed some hot stones at the bottom, and then put the fish, wrapped tightly in banana leaves, into the pit and covered it. He inserted a straight branch and surrounded it with stones and sand, then moved some of the fire over to create another pile. He poured water from a bottle of mineral water into the branch, and steam rose from the fire!

Muchen Fei, who had stumbled over, saw a series of things she had never seen before. In a situation where she felt completely lost, this man was methodical and calm, completing several tasks without a hitch. She couldn't help but slowly approach the first fire, the darkness hiding her curious and fearful expression. Her pretense of arrogance finally dropped.

Just as she opened her mouth, "My name is Muchen Fei..."

Buck waved his hand to stop her, "Hmm, Miss Mu, I heard from Uncle Cheng. I'm just a car washer. You should talk less; if your wound gets infected and abscesses, it could affect your vocal cords, and you'll end up with a hoarse voice." This warning made Muchen Fei fall silent.

On the lonely island, there were only two fires, two faces illuminated by the flames, and sparks flying from the branches in the fire. The surroundings were so quiet it was as if her ears were plugged!

At this moment, Muchen Fei, who was carefully observing Buck, suddenly noticed that this man wasn't as dark as she thought, and he didn't seem as vulgar or rustic. If she removed her prejudices, she could even see a hint of mature calmness?

Of course, by the fire at night, even the darkest skin is still yellow. Dim light always beautifies a person's appearance, and this was true for both men and women. Add a bit of subjective impression, and the change was even greater.

So when Muchen Fei quietly took off her high heels and wanted to sit down, Buck handed her a large banana leaf to use as a carpet. Muchen Fei, for the first time, responded with a smile, finally able to sit down comfortably and cleanly!

Of course, her sitting posture was always with her legs to one side, her body forming a beautiful curve. She noticed Buck glancing at her a couple of times, and then a few more times!

Muchen Fei's arrogance gradually returned.

But after another moment of silence, she, who hadn't eaten all day, clearly heard her stomach growl...

Her face immediately turned red, and her arrogance vanished again!
