Chapter 47

In fact, Mou Chenfei had been standing for more than four hours in the afternoon!

Wearing those seven or eight centimeter high heels for so long, she was amazed that she could even hold on. The reason was that her mental state was in extreme turmoil; witnessing a murder had a huge impact.

She herself understood that she stood there all afternoon, her gaze unfocused as she watched the man fish, her mind almost blank, not daring to think or look around. It wasn't until the bodies were dug up again that she felt like she had finally let out all her pent-up fear and anxiety, which had been gnawing at her heart.

Even a beautiful woman has limits and rules for dieting. Having been out all day, Mou Chenfei had only drunk a little water. Now, she was still holding a bottle of mineral water, sipping it in small mouthfuls. Yes, her mouth was indeed small, and the way she drank water, lightly touching the bottle's mouth and taking small sips, was very elegant and alluring, but not in a sexy way—just pleasing to the eye.

So, she was also hungry. After her stomach protested, she immediately spoke in a low voice, without vibrating her vocal cords, in a very secretive manner: "It's so quiet..." Quiet enough that the sound of her stomach growling was so loud.

Bak looked at the height of the steam vent, sniffed it, and when he detected no raw smell, he moved the fire away. He used a spade to dig through the hot sand and gravel, revealing the banana leaves. He scooped them out with the spade, noticing that Mou Chenfei had her hands lightly clasped in front of her stomach, smiling gently as she waited. Her demeanor was like someone waiting for a waiter to serve a dish in a high-end Western restaurant, as if she was certain that this was hers and that others were born to serve her.

Bak didn't have any resentment towards the rich, and he couldn't be angry with such a girl. He put down the fish wrapped in banana leaves, which had many thorns, and scooped up another one, spreading out the banana leaves. He then placed a packet of instant noodle seasoning next to it and handed her the spade and dagger: "Choose the flavor you like, and be careful of the fish bones..."

Mou Chenfei took it with both hands and politely said thank you. She had planned to force herself to eat a little to stave off hunger, but as she got closer, she couldn't help but swallow her saliva!

Hadn't she not swallowed saliva like that since she started school?

She was really hungry! She could only attribute it to that.

On the dark green spade, the dark green banana leaves were spread out, revealing a half-fish that had already had its large bones removed. On the snow-white fish meat, there were red and purple wild berries, interspersed with yellow flowers and green fern leaves!

Even in such a situation, Bak had habitually arranged the fish neatly on the plate!

If the spade were replaced with a fancy restaurant plate, it would be a high-priced delicacy!

The aroma from the steaming fish, mixed with the fragrance of wild berries and wild vegetables, enveloped the rich and sweet scent of the fatty fish meat, wafting towards her!

Even though Mou Chenfei was eager, she didn't look flustered. She picked up the dagger and carefully cut a corner, skillfully picking it up with the dagger as if using a Western fork, and eagerly put it in her mouth, suppressing her excitement: "Mmm! What is this? It's not fish meat, it's very tender and a bit chewy..." She didn't talk much, but at this moment, she finally showed the excitement of her age.

Bak opened another one himself. He just sprinkled the instant noodle seasoning on it, mixed it with chopsticks made from twigs, and started eating heartily without looking up: "Young shoots of cattails, they are usually found by lakes in the country. They taste similar to asparagus and have very little starch..."

Mou Chenfei finally thanked Bak again, indicating that she felt she had received more than her money's worth. This was the first time she had sincerely said thank you; even when she was rescued, she considered it a given rather than a service!

Bak didn't react. After finishing two fish, he felt satisfied, took the boiling wild grass water from the pot on the fire, poured it into a half-cut mineral water bottle as tea, and lit a cigarette with the fire. He leaned against a tree root, feeling like a carefree immortal!

The only regret was that he couldn't report his safety to his family, making his parents and two younger sisters worry.

A light cough came from behind. Bak turned around blankly and found Mou Chenfei frowning, clearly showing a subtle disdain for his smoking!

This young lady!

Bak didn't bother to say anything, just pointed to the remaining tea: "It has anti-inflammatory and cold-preventing properties, you can drink some..." He got up, took the clothes stripped from the bodies, and hung them by the fire to dry, also blocking the direct red light towards the shore. He then walked a bit away, about ten meters, and sat down freely, holding the tea and smoking.

Mou Chenfei sat by the fire alone, trying to take the pot, and carefully touched her face with it, deciding that even if she got inflamed or caught a cold, she wouldn't drink from a pot larger than her face. At home, she would choose fine porcelain cups for tea and never touch a coarse bowl!

But after no more than twenty seconds, she started to feel anxious, secretly looking around. Being in the light made it hard to see the darkness, and not seeing that figure made her heart race even more. She bit her lip and got up, put on her high heels, and carefully moved away from the banana leaf carpet in the direction Bak had gone. Fortunately, Bak's gray and white striped shorts were quite conspicuous, and Mou Chenfei secretly sighed in relief. She approached a bit more, still standing by a tree, watching the flickering cigarette end.

Away from the fire, Mou Chenfei, wearing a sleeveless knee-length dress, suddenly felt the night breeze by the lake was a bit cold. She instinctively hugged her arms, but it didn't bring any warmth. Her hands had been cold since noon!

Given her nature, she wouldn't ask Bak to return with her; she would only command... but she had just chased him away, and in management, such inconsistency undermines authority.

So, standing a bit cold for a minute, Mou Chenfei surprisingly made a decision to get closer... squatting behind him, the wind would probably be blocked!

Wearing such a short dress, even in the almost pitch-black darkness, Mou Chenfei carefully adjusted her skirt to cover her legs before squatting down, blocking Bak from the direction of the water. She buried her head, silently verifying whether her judgment was correct. In fact, her subconscious was already learning to bury her head like an ostrich.

Bak looked at her actions curiously, seeing her squat less than twenty centimeters away without speaking. He then extinguished the cigarette, only drinking water, but the scalding tea made him hiss, which made Mou Chenfei frown in the darkness, unable to suppress it. Could he not be so rude?

But soon, Mou Chenfei discovered a new problem. She suddenly felt like she was being bitten by mosquitoes and jumped up in surprise: "What's going on... how can there be mosquitoes here!" She suppressed her voice after the initial shock.

Bak stood up more helplessly. The lakeshore was where waterborne mosquitoes and flies were most abundant. Did your status mean they wouldn't bite you?

He walked back to the fire, and Mou Chenfei, like a wronged young wife, quickly followed. She finally took off her high heels and sat elegantly by the fire, looking graceful again.

Actually, a fire could only warm one direction. After comparing, Mou Chenfei accidentally and carefully noticed this detail. Two fires on either side of her enveloped her, while Bak squatted in the wind facing the lake, blocking the wind. She looked at his carefree figure a few more times before finally asking softly: "Do mosquitoes fear fire?"

Bak shook his head: "There's mugwort and pine resin by the fire... they repel mosquitoes."

Mou Chenfei took the initiative again: "I know about mugwort!" But seeing that Bak didn't follow up with any flattery, she felt disheartened and continued to stare blankly at the fire, secretly observing Bak.

Suddenly, a buzzing sound came, a non-natural sound that made Mou Chenfei jump up in fright, quickly hiding behind Bak on the other side of the fire. Even though she didn't touch him, Bak could smell that comforting, slightly more intense scent.

He whispered: "It's that phone... don't make a sound, they might be listening to the surroundings."

He walked over to take the phone from his watch, and Mou Chenfei simply grabbed him, bare-armed, wearing only shorts and a torn sweatshirt!

She grabbed the waist of his shorts!

She really didn't mind.
