Chapter 2

The day after her engagement was broken, Cecilia, with her eyes swollen red, lay listlessly on the bed.
I don’t want to think about anything anymore. But the image of Evona and Hubert laughing on the stage wouldn’t leave her mind.
Trying to forget, she pressed her head tightly, and the maid who came to prepare her for the morning rushed over, looking surprised.
"Are you alright, Miss!? Perhaps you have a headache?"
"Huh?"
While trying to figure out what she was saying, the maid called for a doctor, and before she knew it, the examination had begun. Then, Cecilia suddenly realized something.
She had just been jilted yesterday.
Being jilted is a significant shock.
At that moment, Cecilia was so fed up with everything that she couldn’t help but lie.
"How are you feeling?"
When the doctor asked, her mouth moved on its own.
"I... I can remember who I am and such things... but I can’t remember what happened yesterday."
She thought that if she claimed total memory loss, it would be too obvious, so she decided to say that she had lost her memory of the first prince, Hubert, and his friend, Evona, due to the shock.
As she answered the doctor’s questions, she decided on the details of her current situation.
She remembered being engaged to the first prince but had no memory of the first prince or his friend, Evona.
She remembered everything about her daily life.
The doctor listened solemnly, nodding as she spoke.
Limited memory loss involving just two people might be quite useful, Cecilia thought to herself as she lay listlessly in her room after being sent back.
Usually, she had to change into elaborate morning attire and apply heavy makeup, but today she didn’t have to do any of that, so time seemed to flow more slowly.
Just then, her parents appeared in the room, looking flustered.
"Cecilia!"
"Cecilia dear!"
Cecilia’s eyes widened at the sight of her usually composed and dignified parents, who were now in a panic.
"Father? Mother? What’s wrong?"
At her words, her father, Ralph, and her mother, Chelsea, hugged Cecilia tightly.
"Was the shock of the broken engagement so great? But it’s for the best. Forgetting about such a fool is better for our dear Cecilia."
"That’s right. You don’t need to remember such despicable people!"
For Cecilia, who had always been taught that nobles must always support the royal family, her parents’ words were shocking.
"Father, Mother... such words about the royal family..."
In response to Cecilia’s flustered voice, Ralph and Chelsea spoke with anger.
"Royal family? Ha. We won’t stand up for a prince who hurts our dear Cecilia just because he’s royalty."
"That’s right, Cecilia. We know how hard you’ve worked. Sure, the makeup and dresses might have been a bit much, but to break the engagement because they weren’t to your taste? Ha! Such a prince, we wouldn’t want even if he begged! He’s not worthy of our dear Cecilia!"
Her parents’ anger continued to escalate, and Cecilia found herself listening to their unexpected complaints about the prince for some time.
