Chapter 6

2 min read510 words

A week had passed since the news came that Prince Six, the second prince, would visit Cecilia’s home, where she was taking a leave of absence from the academy for convalescence.

However, Cecilia had not been informed of this.

It was planned that only her parents would meet with Prince Six, and Cecilia was not told anything about it.

And now, in the guest room, Prince Six was meeting with Cecilia’s parents.

"Thank you for allowing me to visit your residence today. Though it is soon after my arrival, I wish to apologize for what my brother did to Miss Cecilia. I am truly, deeply sorry for my foolish brother."

Despite being a subject, Prince Six did not use a rude tone as he might with an elder, but instead bowed deeply. Cecilia’s parents frowned deeply. To be honest, they had already lost interest in the royal family that had hurt Cecilia and had even discussed moving to a neighboring country.

However, Prince Six’s apology was unexpected.

Prince Six, who was often shunned for his appearance, had recently been praised for his seriousness and sincerity, and there were even those who were trying to elevate him. However, he had always maintained a stance of supporting his brother, which prevented any conflict.

Why would such a Prince Six do this? This question arose between Cecilia’s parents.

Thinking it might be for his brother, Hubert, and by extension, for the country, an unexpected statement was made.

"To break off an engagement with the pure and upright Miss Cecilia at a ball... I am deeply ashamed to call him my brother. Through this incident, I have decided to give up on my brother."

"What!?"

"Really!?"

Cecilia’s parents widened their eyes and stood up from their seats, but quickly sat back down and took a sip of tea.

"Prince, but you never showed any such signs before."

Prince Six nodded sadly and then looked straight at Cecilia’s father.

"Yes. I thought that if Cecilia was happy with my brother, that would be fine."

At these words, the two of them swallowed hard.

"That... is..."

"Why?"

Prince Six spoke to them firmly.

"I admire Miss Cecilia... From childhood, she was the only one who never looked down on me or distanced herself from me. She always looked at me with a straightforward gaze. She... was my salvation."

Hearing these words, Cecilia’s parents, though it was not about them, blushed and felt a bit embarrassed by the pure and straightforward emotion directed at them.

It was rather sweet and bittersweet.

Meanwhile, Cecilia, who had been eavesdropping outside the door, blushed and hurried back to her room to avoid being seen.

She had accidentally seen Prince Six from the window and, despite knowing it was unladylike, couldn’t help but listen in on the conversation.

The maids, who had seen this, were inwardly surprised but watched with warm eyes, thinking it might be a side effect of her amnesia. However, seeing Cecilia’s blushing face, they couldn’t help but wonder what was being discussed.

Spring, huh (●´ω`●) It’s warm.
