Gao Feng was in the living area, which was the second level of the base. For now, the underground races, such as the lizardmen, had not yet reached this level.
Of course, it wasn't absolutely safe. In Gao Feng's memory, some green goblins had managed to climb down through the ventilation shafts. These green goblins, though small, were extremely dangerous to ordinary people.
Gao Feng took his sword and stepped out of the door. The corridor was already filled with people, mostly men and women in their pajamas, discussing what had happened.
At this moment, no one truly realized the danger. Although they were curious, their expressions were relaxed.
Seeing Gao Feng run out with his sword, a bald, middle-aged man with a potbelly joked, "Hey, Xiao Feng, are you going to save the world? Haha..."
This somewhat boring joke had a good effect. The men and women in the corridor all laughed along.
The laughter was not malicious; they genuinely found it amusing. In their eyes, the seventeen-year-old Gao Feng was still a child.
A child, not knowing what had happened, running out with a serious expression and a sword in hand, was very comical to them.
Gao Feng had no time to argue and simply shouted, "The green goblins are here, everyone, get ready quickly."
Hearing the words "green goblins," the smile on the bald man's face froze, and he scolded, "What do you know, kid? Don't joke about such things."
As a normal person, when hearing bad news, the first reaction is disbelief. Especially when the news comes from a child. The man's scolding was almost instinctive, trying to deny the bad news by denying Gao Feng.
Gao Feng had neither authority nor evidence, so it was impossible for him to make others believe him in a short time. He had no intention of arguing with these people. He had more important things to do.
Gao Feng just glanced at the bald man and ran past him.
The bald man felt insulted and, as Gao Feng passed by, grabbed his clothes, "Kid, it's rude to just run away like that..."
Gao Feng didn't expect the bald man to grab him, and his face darkened. He turned back and gave the bald man a cold look. His eyes were sharp and bright, with a cold, sharp edge like a blade. The bald man felt a chill and involuntarily let go.
The pull and release happened very quickly, but it made Gao Feng's steps hesitate.
The bald man was startled by Gao Feng's cold gaze and, feeling embarrassed in front of everyone, wanted to grab Gao Feng again to argue. However, he saw Gao Feng suddenly leap up, draw his sword, and a sharp blade of light cut through the air.
Gao Feng's sword technique, though not exquisite, was genuine military swordsmanship. Swift, concise, fierce, and effective.
"Ah..." The bald man didn't expect Gao Feng to be so crazy, and he screamed in terror.
"Thud..."
The sharp blade fell, cutting a green figure that had just jumped down from the ventilation shaft into two. Green blood splattered all over the bald man's face and body.
The green goblin was no more than a meter tall, with a body like a seven or eight-year-old child. Its skin was rough like a toad's, with a sharp, pointed head and a thin, bony body.
Though cut in half, the goblin didn't die immediately, and its two halves twitched on the ground. Its large, lidless green eyes glowed with a chilling, malicious light, and it let out sharp, eerie cries, creating a strong visual impact.
Gao Feng looked at the dead green goblin. This was his first time killing a humanoid creature, and he should have been very uncomfortable. However, perhaps due to the many battles in his memories, Gao Feng felt no discomfort at all. He was very calm and composed.
His instinctive, unthinking strike exceeded his peak level. But once the sword was out, it was as if he had practiced it a million times, smooth and effortless without any stiffness.
In his memories, Gao Feng's Broken Edge Sword Technique was already at level 20, unmatched in the world. Unconsciously, his memories had merged with reality.
Gao Feng had no time to savor the moment. He carefully examined the green goblin, confirming it was the same creature from his memories. He then shouted to the others, "The underground monsters are attacking, everyone, go to the shelter quickly..."
The green goblin's body on the ground woke everyone up. Many women screamed.
A few men managed to stay calm, but their expressions changed when they looked at Gao Feng. One of the security guards had a peculiar look in his eyes. Gao Feng's sword technique was clearly the military Broken Edge Sword Technique of the Bright Empire.
He had been a soldier and had practiced the Broken Edge Sword Technique for nearly twenty years. But Gao Feng's sword technique was so proficient and experienced, it seemed even better than his own. This made Liu Jun very curious and surprised.
The sudden appearance of the green goblin not only confirmed Gao Feng's words but also showed his skilled sword technique and extraordinary calmness.
Everyone lived together and knew Gao Feng well, but today's Gao Feng seemed very unfamiliar to them. There was even a sense of awe about him.
Gao Feng hurriedly gave a brief instruction and then ran down the corridor.
Even after Gao Feng's figure disappeared, the people in the corridor were still in a daze. The sudden appearance of underground monsters in the base was too unexpected, and they couldn't accept the reality in a short time.
"Everyone, don't just stand there, take the children to the shelter in Area F. That's the safest place," a former soldier shouted. He had been a soldier and was a member of the security team, so he remained much calmer than the ordinary employees in a crisis.
After being reminded again, everyone came to their senses. They hurriedly ran back to their rooms, dressed, picked up their sleeping children, gathered valuable items, and in a chaotic rush, headed to the third level.
To deal with emergencies, the base conducted drills every year. Although everyone was panicked, they hadn't encountered the enemy yet, so they managed to stay relatively calm and followed the drill procedures.
The second level of the base was a huge residential area, divided into nine zones based on work levels. Gao Feng, thanks to his uncle, had a separate room in Zone E. His uncle's family lived in Zone C, and Si Si's father, a high-ranking official in the base, lived in Zone B.
Gao Feng needed to find his uncle first and warn him to be careful. Then he needed to find Si Si. Through Si Si, he could find her father, Wen Anyang. Wen Anyang was the executive president and the most powerful person in the base.
If he could convince Wen Anyang, saving the base would not be a dream.
The increasingly intense fighting underground had awakened everyone. The roads were filled with people with panicked faces, most of them at a loss.
Since the base was built, mining had been very smooth. Although there had been many conflicts with the underground races, these were handled by the security team. In everyone's eyes, the underground races were just savage beasts, though cruel, not very frightening. After all, the gap in civilization was too great.
When the underground races launched a full-scale attack, no one realized the severity of the situation. With the communication system damaged, internal communications in the base were almost completely cut off. No one, whether a high-ranking official or a security team member, knew the current situation better than Gao Feng.
The situation was urgent, and Gao Feng knew that shouting about the enemy would only invite many questions. He had no time or energy to deal with them, so he sped towards Zone C.
Running quickly through the intersection, he turned left into Zone C. The buildings here were four-story high, spacious, and had bright windows. Under the huge photonic simulated sky, one could hardly feel the underground oppression.
As he entered through the main gate, the scanner beeped, and a soft female voice said, "The visitor has access permission, but is carrying a sword, which is a dangerous weapon. Please accept questioning."
Gao Feng had no time for this and ran directly to Building C7. The electronic alarm behind him wailed.
At this time, people in Zone C were also awake, many peering out of windows to see what was happening. The clean streets were filled with people. Seeing Gao Feng's hurried pace and the long sword in his hand, their expressions were strange.
Just as Gao Feng reached Building C7, he was stopped by two middle-aged men. One of them asked sternly, "Who are you, and why are you carrying a sword?"
The middle-aged man tried to look authoritative, his eyes scrutinizing. His condescending tone made him seem superior.
Gao Feng replied irritably, "The underground races are attacking. If I were you, I'd pack up and go to the shelter quickly."
The middle-aged man wanted to ask more, but Gao Feng had already darted up the stairs. The man said angrily, "Who's this wild child? Talking nonsense..."
The other man thought for a moment and said, "He seems to be Gao Tong's nephew."
The middle-aged man was still upset, "How does Old Gao raise his kids? Really, it's just..." Before he could finish, a series of terrified screams came from the other side of the street. Seven or eight people were running frantically, with several ugly green monsters chasing them.
One green goblin leaped onto a fat woman who had fallen behind. Its sharp claws quickly tore at her face and body.
The fat woman screamed twice, her face and body covered in blood, and she fell to the ground, clearly dead.
Seeing this, everyone was shocked. The people in this area were high-ranking officials, living in luxury. Although it was an era where everyone practiced martial arts, most had no real combat experience, let alone this group. Including the two middle-aged men, everyone screamed and scattered.
In fact, only seven or eight green goblins had rushed over. If the people had remained calm, these small monsters wouldn't have been much of a threat.
Gao Feng didn't see this; he had already run to the fourth floor. "Bang, bang, bang..." Time was short, and Gao Feng knocked on the door forcefully.
The wooden door's light flickered, and a virtual screen showed a beautiful woman with a high bun. "What do you want?" she asked irritably.
This woman was Gao Feng's aunt, Lin Fei, who was always sharp-tongued and looked down on Gao Feng, considering him a burden.
If not for her personality, Gao Feng wouldn't have lived separately. Normally, if there was nothing urgent, he wouldn't visit.
"There's an emergency, where's Uncle?" Gao Feng asked directly.
Lin Fei's face changed, feeling Gao Feng was being rude. She was about to scold him when she saw a cold light flash in Gao Feng's eyes, as if an invisible blade had pierced her heart. Though separated by a door, she was startled and quickly replied, "Your uncle is on duty."
Gao Feng sighed; his luck was really bad. But since his uncle was on duty, the area was well-protected, so he didn't need to worry about his safety for now.
"Get out quickly, and go to the shelter," Gao Feng said almost commandingly.
Lin Fei refused, "Why go to the shelter? We'll stay at home." She didn't like Gao Feng and was still startled by him, so she refused to listen.
With over a hundred years of experience, Gao Feng could guess Lin Fei's thoughts. Prejudiced people couldn't be convinced with a few words. Normally, he could think of a few ways, but now, with time so short, he had no choice.
Stepping back, Gao Feng drew his sword, took a deep breath, and struck.
Lin Fei, seeing Gao Feng draw his sword, screamed, "You're crazy, Gao Feng!" Before she could finish, she saw two intersecting sword beams on the screen, cold and sharp.
This was the killing move from the Broken Edge Sword Technique, the Mountain-Cleaving Slash. However, Gao Feng used a continuous cross-slash. If a master of this technique saw it, they would be amazed.
Only experts with over level 10 sword skills could master such techniques. Most people, even after a lifetime of practice, could never reach this level.
The wooden door, though thick, was still made of wood. Gao Feng's sword, though not a famous one, was made of a modern high-strength alloy called black iron, extremely sharp and durable. It was a pinnacle of human cold weapon craftsmanship.
Cutting through metal like butter, the sword was a true representation, not an exaggeration.
With Gao Feng's proficient technique, the wooden door had a perfect cross-slash. Gao Feng admired the straight, neat cross-slash, satisfied with his current strength.
Kicking the door open, Gao Feng rushed in, wood splinters flying.
"Don't move," Lin Fei, holding a laser pistol, pointed it at Gao Feng, trembling. Hearing the chaos outside, she was scared and held the gun for courage. She didn't expect Gao Feng to barge in, and in panic, raised the gun to defend herself.
Though sharp-tongued, Lin Fei was still a woman and had never done such a thing. Her hand shook, making Gao Feng nervous. A novice with a gun was likely to fire accidentally.
Without hesitation, Gao Feng darted forward, and his sword struck Lin Fei's wrist. The force knocked the gun away. Lin Fei tried to scream, but Gao Feng struck her neck with a hand knife, knocking her unconscious.
"Trouble..." Gao Feng muttered, picking up the laser pistol. Though fingerprint-locked, it was still a ranged weapon.
"Brother, are you going to kill Mom?" thirteen-year-old Jiaojiao asked curiously. She had been hiding behind Lin Fei and was startled to see Gao Feng knock her down. However, she had inherited her father's thick nerves and was not panicked, only curious.
"No. I'm playing a game with Aunt," Gao Feng said, lifting Lin Fei and pulling Jiaojiao out.
Jiaojiao pouted, "Don't lie. I know you hate Mom the most."
Gao Feng's face darkened, "Don't talk nonsense, or I'll get rid of you too."
Jiaojiao looked at Gao Feng pitifully, "Brother, I'm so good to you. I save half of my chocolate for you and introduce pretty classmates to you. You haven't forgotten, right?"
Gao Feng's face turned black, "Don't talk about that. There's a big problem now, you need to listen..."
Lin Fei, though slim, still weighed over a hundred pounds. Carrying her was not easy for Gao Feng. They quickly went downstairs, and the street was empty.
Gao Feng saw the dead woman and his eyes narrowed. The underground monsters were increasing, and his time was running out.
Holding Jiaojiao's hand, he ran quickly to the shelter. When the shelter was built, three were established for emergencies. The closest to Zone C was in the basement of a large commercial center in Zone D.
Just as they left Zone C, a group of people ran towards them, with a dozen green goblins excitedly chasing behind.
"Damn, bad luck..." Gao Feng muttered as he moved forward.
While everyone was fleeing in panic, Gao Feng, carrying a woman and leading a girl, moved against the flow. Even in the chaos, he attracted many people's attention.
"Is this kid crazy?" was the first thought of many.
