Chapter 7: The Young Miss Is Truly Disrespectful

The arrival of the newborns brought joy and dispelled some of the gloom that had enveloped the Qin family after the great upheaval.

Grandma Qin looked at her twin grandsons, her eyes filled with joy but also a hint of worry, tears streaming down her face.

If these twins had been born a year earlier, it would have been so much better. Now, they are premature, weak, and frail, and it’s uncertain if they will survive.

“Mother, you’ve been busy for a whole day and night. Go rest now. The ladies here can take care of things,” Wang Shi said softly, trying to comfort her.

Grandma Qin nodded and said, “Send for two wet nurses.”

Gu Shi’s labor was not only premature but also difficult. She had almost lost her life giving birth and needed careful care. It was impossible for her to feed the babies, so they had to hire wet nurses.

Before Wang Shi could speak, Xie Shi interjected, “Mother, where do we have the money to hire two wet nurses?”

The family’s assets had been seized suddenly, and the Empress Dowager’s family had deliberately suppressed them. They had no valuable items left, not even the precious jewelry they once wore. Where would they get the money to hire two wet nurses?

“Can we afford to lose the monthly wages for two wet nurses?” Grandma Qin said coldly.

There were only a few servants in this old house.

Qifang said calmly, “Miss helped Third Madam with acupuncture and massage, which are very draining both mentally and physically. Moreover, Miss’s health is not the best, as Second Madam should know. I don’t think she would make things difficult for Miss over such a small matter.” After all, the reason Miss was sent to live in the old house was because of her health.

Qifang bowed to Grandma Qin and said, “Grandma, I need to prepare medicine for Third Madam as Miss instructed. I’ll take my leave now.”

Grandma Qin, exhausted, waved her hand dismissively.

As Qifang and the midwife left, Grandma Qin’s scolding of Xie Shi could be heard from inside the room, and she couldn’t help but sneer.

“Mother, don’t be upset. Take care of your health. Second Sister-in-law, quickly apologize to Mother and accompany her to rest.” Wang Shi was extremely dissatisfied with her second sister-in-law. At such a critical time, she was still causing trouble. Wang Shi was already exhausted.

Xie Shi had no choice but to back down, saying a few flattering words and trying to help Grandma Qin out. However, as soon as they took a step, Grandma Qin’s body went limp, and she collapsed.
