Ch72 - (II). His wolf can’t live without him

The curtains in the hotel room remained tightly drawn, just as Rong Jun had left them, shutting out the daylight entirely.

Having stayed up all night, the two of them lay tangled in the center of the bed. Yan Chen had curled himself beneath the covers, his arms wrapped firmly around Rong Jun’s waist, his face buried against his chest as if anchoring himself there.

Rong Jun lowered his head slightly, his fingers combing gently through Yan Chen’s soft, tousled hair. His gaze lingered at Yan Chen. He was happy Yan Chen had come.

During the two weeks apart, he had missed him more than he had been willing to admit.

Perhaps it was because he had been cared for too well, so completely that he had grown accustomed to it, drifting through life without noticing the small but important things.

He had always known, somewhere deep down, how much he relied on Yan Chen. Like a spoiled young master, he had taken that devotion for granted, unconsciously weaving it into the fabric of his world, forgetting that none of it was owed to him.

Yan Chen simply… loved him.

A faint, complicated emotion flickered in Rong Jun’s eyes. His fingers slowed in Yan Chen’s hair. He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to the crown of his head, his eyes closing as his brows drew together slightly.

“I’m sorry…” he whispered.

…

[Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.]

The persistent vibration of a phone shattered the stillness.

Yan Chen stirred first, letting out a low, displeased sound as he instinctively burrowed deeper into Rong Jun’s chest, rubbing against him in protest.

Rong Jun tightened his hold reflexively. He wasn’t pleased either, being dragged from sleep so abruptly. Without opening his eyes fully, he reached for the phone, grabbed it, and squinted at the screen before answering in a low voice.

He hung up without waiting for the other man to reply.

The boldness lasted only a moment. Under Yan Chen’s steady gaze, Rong Jun’s composure cracked, his face flushing red, even the tips of his ears burning as the reality of what he had just done settled in.

Quickly, he pushed Yan Chen’s head back against his chest. “What are you staring at? Go to sleep.”

“Qingqing~”

Yan Chen’s mood shifted instantly. He wrapped himself around Rong Jun and rolled with him across the bed, nearly kicking the blanket off in the process.

Still flushed, Rong Jun looked away, forcing his tone back to normal. “Are you sleeping or not?”

Yan Chen climbed back over him, only to capture him in a fierce kiss, pouring out everything he had been holding back.

By the time he pulled away, Rong Jun was breathless, his vision slightly hazy. “Are you… trying to kill me?”

“I would never dare.” Yan Chen grinned, before burrowing back into his arms, his voice soft and satisfied. “Let’s sleep a little longer~”

“Then sleep.”

Rong Jun looked down at him, unable to suppress the faint smile tugging at his lips.

His fingers brushed through Yan Chen’s slightly overgrown hair, noting that it was probably time for his wolf for a trim.

…

Rong Jun didn’t fall into a deep sleep. Less than two hours later, his eyes opened again.

Yan Chen was still wrapped tightly around him. Not wanting to wake him, Rong Jun remained still, staring quietly as his thoughts returned.

What now…

He couldn’t give up Yan Chen for the sake of his career. Nor could he continue letting Yan Chen endure that kind of anxiety and pressure because of it.

He had chosen politics to step out from beneath his family’s protection, to become someone capable of supporting them in return. Compared to his older brother, Rong Li, he lacked the same instinct for business. Even if he joined the family company, he would contribute only a little.

So he had chosen this path.

But now… things were different.

He wasn’t alone anymore. Yan Chen was beside him, someone he wanted to protect just as much.

And yet, in pursuing his ambitions, he was hurting him.

For the first time, Rong Jun wasn’t certain Yan Chen would stay with him until the end. And the realization struck sharply, he couldn’t accept that possibility. He couldn’t take that risk.

“Hm…”

Yan Chen stirred, blinking sleepily as he lifted his head, searching instinctively for Rong Jun. “Qingqing…”

Rong Jun gently rubbed his hair. Watching him relax again, smiling faintly before curling back into his arms, something warm spread through his chest.

This man…

Without him, everything would feel off and incomplete.

So he finally decided with all his heart… the right thing to do.

“Yan Chen.”

The head in his arms lifted immediately when he called him, Yan Chen’s golden eyes locking with his drowsily. “Hmm?”

Rong Jun met his eyes, his voice quiet but resolute.

“Let’s go home. Right now.”
