Chapter 3 of 9
Ch2 - The word affection is both medicine and poison
4 min read918 words
Just as Li Suqing said, when Ye Zhi woke up the next day, there was no one else around besides that short-tempered kid, Chen Yu, running back and forth in the room, waking him up.
Ye Zhi rarely slept deeply. To preserve his life, he never dared to relax. He was forced to react instantly to the smallest sound, so Chen Yu’s racket would naturally alert him.
Seeing that he had woken someone up, Chen Yu only glanced over once and did not even apologize. Obviously, he was dissatisfied with having to take care of Ye Zhi. It wasn’t because Ye Zhi had offended him or anything; it was because Ye Zhi had never spoken a word of gratitude to Mister, so he disliked him.
“Have you woken up? If you have, then go wash your face. Food is over there. Eat or not is up to you.” Chen Yu reluctantly spat out a few words and then returned to being busy.
Ye Zhi realized Chen Yu didn’t like him, so he didn’t bother to answer. After washing his face, Ye Zhi returned to see that there was only a bun on the table. He was not picky, and this kind of provocation didn’t really bother him.
Chen Yu’s temper became even more distinct when compared to Li Suqing. Seeing Ye Zhi remain silent, he became more and more dissatisfied. While cleaning the room, he said, “Although you’re injured, you should still help Mister clean around the house daily. Mister was already poor and now had to raise a loafer like you.”
To Chen Yu, he couldn’t care less who Ye Zhi was before. He only knew Ye Zhi was a freeloader at Li Suqing’s house now. If he didn’t stop by every few days, Mister’s books would become a mess; then, when he wanted to find medical references, he wouldn’t be able to find any.
Ye Zhi knew early on that Chen Yu was a restless kid. So when he heard the kid rambling nonstop while cleaning, he could finally understand why the one who always came running to drag Li Suqing out was him.
Ye Zhi was too lazy to refute Chen Yu, so he just let him complain by himself.
“If it wasn’t for you, mister wouldn’t need to go up the mountain.” The more he thought about it, the angrier Chen Yu got. He even forgot Li Suqing’s instruction to keep this a secret from Ye Zhi.
“Didn’t he say he needed to go because some herbs were lacking?” Ye Zhi raised his eyebrows. Li Suqing definitely said that.
“All the medicinal herbs in this clinic were collected by the villagers who went up the mountain. How many people does this village have for him to go so frequently? It was only because some people saw jade dew plants good for healing injuries, and Mister calculated they would mature today. That’s why he went!” Chen Yu said indignantly.
“Mister’s body is inherently not good. Living with long-term illness made people become doctors. How could Mister withstand the torment of the mountain? Mister is very stubborn and never listens….” Speaking halfway, Chen Yu turned around, only to see Ye Zhi had disappeared since who knows when.
Ye Zhi ran towards the village’s gate. Only now did he realize he didn’t even know which mountain Li Suqing went to. He felt confused. He couldn’t understand why he was suddenly nervous. The first thought in his head was wanting to see Li Suqing.
He stood still, not knowing where he was supposed to go. He had never known what it was like to worry about someone, so he couldn’t understand this emotion and why he was doing this.
He wanted to return, but that strange feeling kept jumping inside, confusing him. This unknown emotion made Ye Zhe feel stifled, so he found a place on the ground to sit down, hoping to regain his composure. But, whenever he heard footsteps, he would open his eyes to see if it was Li Suqing.
Sadly, Li Suqing never appeared.
The color of the sky slowly turned, gradually darkened. For some reason, Ye Zhi’s heart felt restless. In the forest, there might be wild animals and the like. What if Li Suqing encountered them? With his physique, how could he escape?
The more Ye Zhi thought about it, the more frightened he became. He didn’t know where the current emotions came from. He only knew that they made him feel inexplicably impatient. He wanted to see Li Suqing right away. Ye Zhi felt he had wasted a lot of time. If he went back and asked Chen Yu, he would surely know where Li Suqing was.
“Ye er? Is that Ye er?” Suddenly, a familiar gentle, steady voice resounded in his ears. Ye Zhi was stunned silly. When he recovered his senses and looked at the coming person, it was indeed Li Suqing.
It was just that…at this moment, Li Suqing’s original pure white clothes had become dirty and messy, his inky hair scattered all over his shoulder. He looked extremely disheveled. However, that gentle look remained on his face,
“It really is Ye er. Your wound hasn’t healed yet; you should rest more.”
Ye Zhi wanted to say something, his lips moved, but then closed again. Li Suqing didn’t ask why Ye Zhi appeared here. Instead, he just smiled, stretched out his hand, and tucked a lock of hair behind Ye Zhi’s ears, “Okay, let’s go back together.”
