Chapter 1 I'm Dead
■■■■■■■■■■
On the school trip bus, I, Ishidou Touma, was just gazing out at the scenery. As we drove through a lush valley, the bus began to sway. It seemed to be swerving wildly from side to side.
“W-What!?”
“Hey, driver! Drive more carefully!”
The driver didn't hear the voice. What I saw was the driver, his face buried in the steering wheel, slumped over weakly. It looked like he had lost consciousness. The moment I realized this, the bus broke through the guardrail.
“““Ahhh!”””
“““Aaaaaaaah!”””
I felt a sense of floating and heard the screams of my classmates. Below the cliff was a riverbed strewn with rocks. The ground was rushing toward us.
“I'm dead...”
The moment I felt this, a violent impact pierced my body.
It was incredibly cold. When I opened my eyes, I saw a scene of hell. My classmates were piled on top of each other, bleeding.
I was wearing a seatbelt, but it seemed that most of them weren't. The situation was dire. Even with a seatbelt, I would die.
“Cough”
I coughed up blood. A metal rod had pierced my abdomen, having gone through the seat in front of me and into me. I was impaled.
“I'm really dead...”
I didn't feel any pain. But it was as cold as if I were in the Arctic. I would definitely die like this.
“What a short life...”
Or perhaps, I should say, I can finally die.
I had been subjected to violence by my parents. In my second year of junior high, I was hospitalized due to this, which led to the hospital reporting it. As a result, I was taken into a children's home. I haven't seen my parents since then and don't know what happened to them.
At the junior high school I attended from the children's home, I was mocked as "parentless." The same thing happened when I entered high school. My classmates would call me "parentless" at every opportunity.
Being called "parentless" was nothing compared to the violence I endured from my parents. I thought I could endure it until I graduated from high school, but I never imagined I would die here... Life is truly a strange thing. My consciousness began to fade.
