Chapter 2: The Afterlife
■■■■■■■■■■
My consciousness returned. It seems I am still alive. I don't feel any pain in my stomach. Maybe the anesthesia from the surgery is still in effect?
When I opened my eyes, everything was white. I thought my vision hadn't returned, but it seemed to be different.
The ceiling, walls, and even the floor were all white, making it hard to gauge distance.
Moreover, I was standing on a floor that I couldn't tell if it was there or not. I felt a sense of discomfort, as if I were floating.
My classmates were standing around me, looking just as confused as I was.
"Welcome, all of you who have been reincarnated!"
"!?!"
Suddenly, a voice rang out, and I turned to see someone I had never seen before. She was so beautiful that I couldn't think of any other way to describe her except as a stunning beauty, with golden hair and blue eyes.
This woman was clearly not human. She had white wings and an angel ring on her head, looking like an angel.
"You are being summoned as heroes to the world I manage, Forsdaria."
The angel declared this with a dignified voice, and a counter and chairs appeared. She sat down and smiled.
"Who the hell are you? What do you plan to do with us!?"
It was Sago Yuta. Rich, handsome, academically excellent, and the star of the soccer team. God had given him not just two but four gifts. He was a student who had everything I lacked.
"I am the world's administrator, or in other words, a god. Fastcloud—what you call Earth—is where you have died. Therefore, you will be reincarnated and summoned to Forsdaria."
An administrator, not an angel? As she explained fluently without hesitation, it seemed I had indeed died in the bus accident.
And it seemed that I was to be reincarnated and summoned as a hero to the world she managed.
Being reincarnated in another world, but since it's a summoning, I will probably be summoned in my current form. If I start as an infant, could I have a chance to restart my life? I would like to try again. I want to meet good parents and experience the love of a family. I strongly wish for that.
"Since you have died in Fastcloud, you cannot return to your original world. Even if you refuse, the reincarnation will still be carried out. If you don't like living in Forsdaria, you can commit suicide. However, Forsdaria is full of monsters and demons, so you might be killed first."
The golden-haired goddess smiled maliciously. When I saw that smile, I realized she was the same kind of person who had looked down on me. People who made such expressions were common in Japan, or as the administrator called it, Fastcloud, where I lived. My parents were like that, and some of my classmates were too.
They generally looked down on me and attacked me without reason, both physically and mentally. They were that kind of people.
The classmates who heard the golden-haired goddess's explanation turned pale.
"What will happen to us in this other world?"
"Can I really become a hero!?"
"Can't I see my mother again?"
The murmurs of the classmates spread, but the administrator paid no attention to their distress.
"From now on, I will bestow blessings upon you. Please line up."
The classmates were unsure of what to do.
"Please line up quickly. I will send you without the blessings if you don't."
At the administrator's words, the startled classmates hurriedly lined up. I also joined the line, but I was pushed out roughly from the side.
"You, go to the back of the line, orphan. This is my spot."
"………"
This brute was Ishihara Ken, the star of the karate club, but he was known for his rough behavior and had caused problems several times. Thanks to his parents being members of parliament, the issues were always smoothed over, allowing him to remain a student.
I lined up at the very back. I wouldn't take any actions that would cause problems. I had lived this way all along. I was good at suppressing my feelings.
