Chapter 6.1 - Eve

No wonder he felt like he had to do it. It was unlikely to find an answer by just looking, so Ben headed to Aidan’s house after confirming a similar pattern of crime in the yard.

It still felt dark even when he was going there for the third time. Perhaps without Daniel, Aidan’s atmosphere was sharper and the smell was stronger than last time.

Aidan, who was lying lazily, gave the file Ben brought a rough look and said.

“ He got more cautious than last time… and experienced.”

Ben nodded in agreement with the words. He thought he was experienced. Ben had been chasing him for more than 15 years and didn’t even get to see his shadow.

Aidan stood up from the couch with his turquoise eyes glistening with interest and walked back and forth.

“All women, moderately wealthy, in their homes.”

After hearing a little more, he thought it would be followed by “fantastic!”or “perfect!”, but

Aidan, who was muttering quickly in a furious tone, said to Ben.

“I need to see the scene.”

“Then we can go together. I was going to go, too.”

“Fine. I’ll go by myself, give me the address.”

Driven by Aidan’s strong words that he would never let them go together, Ben gave him the address. He didn’t know why he wanted to go separately if they could just go together. Just as he felt uncomfortable with Aidan, Aidan felt the same way.

He got used to Miller by now, but Aidan still didn’t seem like a human being, so it was awkward to deal with him. Or maybe he made Ben think about his brother. He giggled at the absurd thought of the brothers resemblance. Ben shook his head, reminding himself that Miller wasn’t a person worthy of wandering through his mind that often.

I’m the one who won’t run into him anymore when this work is done. It was clear that he would be the one who would lose later if he opened his heart.

Relationships lasted when people wanted to.

Even if Miller had good feelings for him now, it was bound to change. He had seen a lot of people like that since he lived alone for a long time.

Moreover, it was even more impossible if he resulted to be an ordinary person. Who could be serious about him? Even his mother didn’t like him.

Aidan came to the scene with Daniel after sunset.

As Ben was looking around the scene of the incident, he heard a loud scuffle in front of the police line. Aidan, unlike his older brother, seemed to lack social skills. It would have been easier to cross the police line saying that his brother was the director of MI6, but Aidan was arguing with a female officer without saying a word.

It was Ben’s first time to act with such an ordinary police officer, but when he heard him talking roughly, Aidan seemed to have encountered the field officers several times because of the incident commissioned by the yard.

The problem was that the female officer treated Aidan as a psycho, so she wasn’t letting him inside the police line.

Ben, who was listening at the front door of the house where the incident took place, eventually approached the police line and said.

“This way.”

The policewoman stared at Ben. It was obvious what he was trying to do, so Ben talked a little faster.

“I belong to MI6.”

They were civilians, so they could walk around these sites. Even if he said that he belonged to MKV, she wouldn’t know, and he thought it would be better to talk about a more powerful organization, so he made an excuse saying MI6 on purpose.

The officer no longer made a fuss about Aidan as if that worked.

Ben began to talk to Aidan as he guided him to the scene of the incident.

“As you read from the file, the crime happened indoors. We need to figure out how a stranger was let into the house.”

“Why wouldn’t a stranger be allowed in?”

At first glance, it was such a small murmur that Ben couldn’t tell whether it was directed to him or to someone else. If Ben hadn’t seen Daniel elbow-slapping Aidan in the side, he would have just let it slide.

It bothered him, so Ben was about to ask again, but Aidan said it first.

“Shut up, don’t say anything.”

Aidan’s eyes became sharp when he entered the bedroom where the crime took place. Daniel looked at Aidan from a distance without saying a word.

Aidan frowned once at the neck of the dead body still lying face down on the bed. There was still a sharp mark indicating that it ended at once.

“Daniel.”

As if to ask Daniel to look at the body, Aidan stepped aside from the bed and began to look around the room. Aidan opened a double window to look outside, then checked under the bed, squatted down and looked at the floor.

“It’s clean, so I think he was done at once, and I don’t think it was too painful, as there’s no sign of resistance.”

His cold remark resembled a medical student doing an anatomy practice.

Ben was looking at Daniel. He didn’t seem to act the same way as a normal civilian did when seeing a body. Ben tilted his head and soon remembered Daniel’s blog. Being with Aidan O’Donoughue must have given him immunity to these bodies. Aidan called Daniel again.

Daniel approached Aidan, who was squatting, and sat side by side.

“What does this stain look like?”

“I don’t know.”

“Please think about it and tell me. There’s no liquid in this room that would make this stain.”

“I don’t know, what if it’s body fluids? They ‘re different from humans, so we don’t have a separate DB, and your brother already told us the suspect.”

“A suspect that came from a general opinion.”

Squatting, they were looking at the small stain on the floor. Ben laughed because they seemed like high school students.

When Aidan woke up with a big snort, Ben opened his mouth because he thought it was alright to talk now.

“So what did you find out?”

“I did.”

“You’re a genius . You found something none of these people found?”

One of the yard officers mocked Aidan for some reason. He didn’t know why Aidan had so many enemies when he helped the yard to solve cases.

Daniel took a nervous step toward the police officer when he criticized Aidan. Perhaps this had happened more than once or twice.

Aiden, who knew he would react immediately to the sarcastic tone, rather reached out his arms and stopped Daniel from moving.

Seeing the scene, Ben was relieved that there would be no fight, but Aidan’s mouth constantly poured out words. It was terrible and he could see why he had so many enemies.

“Hey, Brad. If you’re going to have an affair, you’d better choose a partner, because I don’t think the one who’s standing outside, Elijah, is the only one.”

Ben quickly found out that the officer’s name was Brad and he had an affair with Elijah, the police officer standing on the police line.

Ben didn’t know how Aidan O’Donoughue knew that, but when he saw Brad’s mouth shut when he heard it, it was clear that what he said was all true.

Aidan didn’t stop there and bragged about the privacy of all the officers he encountered while leaving the house where the crime took place.

He said to one that he gained 2kg, and to another that his wife was cheating on him. Another one: ‘You’re another Elijah.’ It solidified all three of them, Brad and Elijah.

Ben’s face was getting more and more shocked because it was getting too private to just ignore it as nonsense. He tried to tell Aidan to stop because he thought one of the officers was going to shoot him, but Daniel grabbed Ben.

“If you don’t want him to blabber about your private life, just stay quiet.”

Then Daniel called Aidan’s name out loud. It had a harsh meaning of ‘ Won’t you shut up?’ .

Aidan was still full of complaints, but Daniel’s gaze worked to stop his moving mouth. Apparently Aidan O’Donoughue’s sedative was Daniel Johnson.

Daniel, who was with someone who has no social skills, looked just fine, so Ben stared at Daniel and asked Aidan, who was still grumbling a little.

“So what did you find out?”

Ben asked Aidan as soon as he left the house, the scene of the incident, and fell out of the sight of the officers.

“The one who did it had a pretty high rank among them . It will be hard to catch them . Find out where the victim’s been to in the past month. The same for other victims. There must be some coincidence. I need to find out more, so I’ll go first.”

Aidan grabbed Daniel’s hand as he ran and went out of the police line.

Ben had a slight headache. He felt like he had only been there for half an hour, but also for half a year.

Everyone who appeared around him recently was out of the ‘normal’ category. In the first place, because of the race of the culprit of this damn incident, it was difficult to explain this in a normal and general theory.

He couldn’t just wait until Aidan found something, so Ben thought he should go home and get some rest.

He got rid of several guys the day before yesterday, and another new incident happened again, so it was very hectic. As he turned his step toward the apartment, he felt a vibration in his pants pocket.

He had met him again this morning, but Ben picked up the phone and opened his mouth. His voice, which had been drained of energy by Aidan, leaked out because of fatigue.

“Yes?”

“Are you done?”

“Is it urgent?”

“A little bit.”

“What is it?”

“I think I found a pattern of the suspect moving. I found out where the next crime is going to be.”

“Why didn’t you look for Aidan before he went to the scene?”

“Ah, Aidan needs to move according to himself.”

“What is it?”

“I want to talk to you in person.”

“Then would you like to come home? I’m a little tired to meet you outside.”

When Ben hesitated and asked, Miller said he would visit him an hour later and hung up the phone.

He didn’t really want to invite anyone in this way, but he was too tired to meet him outside.

Ben thought it was a faster way to rest by talking briefly and sending Miller back.
