"Are you listening? Do you remember a high school classmate named Su Jing?" Xia Chong was very dissatisfied with Yang Tong's dazed expression, thinking that Yang Tong had forgotten this high school classmate, after all, forgetting a high school classmate was not at all unusual.
"I remember, I even saw him today." Yang Tong nodded.
"Oh? Then how is your relationship with him?" Xia Chong's eyes lit up slightly.
"Well... it's just so-so." Yang Tong couldn't understand what Xia Chong was up to.
"If I ask you to convince him to work as a trainer at the aquarium with a monthly salary of 15,000, can you do it?" Xia Chong asked. In terms of persuasion, he was definitely much better than Yang Tong, but he couldn't match the relationship of being high school classmates.
"15,000 a month?" Yang Tong was completely stunned, almost unable to believe his ears.
"Is he very picky? If 15,000 is not enough, what about 20,000?" Xia Chong raised the price a bit, but didn't mention the maximum.
Yang Tong originally thought he had heard wrong, but didn't expect the price to go up, so he couldn't help but widen his eyes, feeling a bit dizzy. He had thought Su Jing had no job, wore cheap clothes, and must be doing poorly, but now that his monthly salary was three times his own, the stark contrast was hard to accept.
"Say something." Xia Chong scolded.
"Um... um... actually, our relationship isn't very good." Yang Tong was unwilling to lower himself to persuade Su Jing to take a job that paid twice as much as his own. He hoped the deal would fall through. If not for fear of losing his job, he would have meddled.
"Bad relationship?" Xia Chong frowned, glanced at Yang Tong, and after a moment of silence, said, "Since you can't help, it's none of your business. But don't try to sabotage things because of your bad relationship with Su Jing, or you'll be out of a job."
Xia Chong then ignored Yang Tong, knocked on Xue Zonghong's office door, and was let in. Yang Tong stood there in a daze, unable to process everything. In the distance, a few classmates who noticed something was wrong quickly walked over.
"Yang Tong, what's wrong?" a boy asked.
"Nothing." Yang Tong shook his head, but his expression was not good.
"Don't be upset. Isn't it normal to be scolded by your boss? Who hasn't been scolded by their boss?" The classmates thought he was upset because he was scolded by his boss and tried to comfort him.
After a while, Shi Qing and Xue Zonghong came out of the office, seemingly leaving space for Xia Chong and Su Jing to talk. Yang Tong, not knowing the situation, felt like a thorn in his throat and asked, "Mr. Xue, do you know why Manager Xia wants to hire Su Jing?"
"Don't you know?" Xue Zonghong, unaware of Yang Tong's relationship with Su Jing, thought they were good classmates and answered, "I guess it was the director's decision. Su Jing provided the aquarium with nautiluses, hammerhead sharks, and two-meter-long Napoleon fish. He can also cure dolphins that even I can't, so the director naturally wants to keep him."
"But that's not right. Nautiluses? Two-meter-long Napoleon fish? Didn't Yang Tong just introduce those? Su Jing doesn't seem to know them..." a petite girl asked, but then realized that Su Jing wasn't unfamiliar with them; he just didn't bother to pay attention to the pretentious Yang Tong.
Yang Tong's face immediately turned red. Since the nautiluses, hammerhead sharks, and Napoleon fish were provided by Su Jing to the aquarium and sold at high prices, how could he not know them? This meant that Su Jing was treating Yang Tong like a fool and didn't bother to pay attention to him.
"How much monthly salary is the director planning to give Su Jing?" the petite girl asked.
"I don't know, but it should be between 20,000 and 30,000. Don't worry, our director is very generous with talent," Xue Zonghong smiled, knowing Fan Wei's character well and guessing correctly.
"20,000 to 30,000?" Wu Min and others were completely stunned. This was far from doing poorly; who in the class was doing better than him? Moreover, nautiluses, hammerhead sharks, and Napoleon fish were worth hundreds of thousands.
At this moment, the office door opened, and Su Jing quickly walked out, with Xia Chong following closely behind, persistently asking, "Mr. Su, won't you reconsider? 30,000 monthly salary, generous year-end bonus, plus five insurances and one fund. Can Mr. Su find a better job than this?"
Yang Tong, Wu Min, and others were stunned again. Su Jing was refusing 30,000 a month?
"Manager Xia, I've said it several times, it's not about the salary or benefits," Su Jing said helplessly, finding Manager Xia very persistent.
"Then what is it?" Xia Chong, with a last-ditch effort, asked, feeling a bit helpless. He originally wanted to lower the price, but soon realized that Su Jing didn't seem to care much about the job, even with a 30,000 monthly salary.
"I have my own business and don't want to work," Su Jing said.
"Then I won't force you. If Mr. Su changes his mind in the future, you can come back to me," Xia Chong said helplessly, extending his right hand.
"Sure." Su Jing shook hands with Xia Chong.
"Old Xue, I'll take my leave now," Su Jing stopped and said to Xue Zonghong. After some time of interaction, the way they addressed each other had changed.
"Remember to visit often, and take good care of these fish. Let's see who has a higher survival rate," Xue Zonghong smiled.
"Sure." Su Jing smiled, picked up a fish tank, and left with Shi Qing.
Several classmates immediately surrounded him, much more enthusiastically than when they first met.
"Su Jing, what kind of business are you in? You don't even care about a 30,000 monthly salary."
"You do so well in business but don't even tell us. That's a bit too aloof, isn't it?"
As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. These classmates seemed fine on the surface, but they were all like Yang Tong, very opportunistic. This was why Su Jing didn't get close to them. A few high school classmates who had heard that Su Jing was doing poorly had called to check on him. Upon learning that Su Jing was doing well, they congratulated him, but none of them tried to take advantage of him, which was the difference.
"I just catch fish; it's not really a business. You guys continue to have fun; I have something to do." Su Jing didn't like their attitude and didn't want to stay, but he made a gesture to call Wu Min.
"Do you have a car? I can give you a ride," a tall boy said.
"No need, I have a car," Su Jing said. Although he said this, several classmates still followed Su Jing out of the aquarium, trying to get closer, which made Yang Tong very upset, his expression getting worse.
"I'll take my leave; let's meet another day." Su Jing said politely, got in the car with Shi Qing, and drove away.
"Am I seeing things? Is that a Porsche 911?" a boy said.
"How much does a Porsche 911 cost?" a petite girl's eyes sparkled.
"I don't remember, but at least over a million," a tall boy said.
Yang Tong said nothing, his eyes filled with envy, jealousy, and hatred, his chest burning with a desire to smash Su Jing's Porsche.
"Su Jing isn't doing poorly; he's doing too well. He's driving a Porsche, and there's proof." One of the classmates posted this in the high school group chat, causing a huge stir and bringing out many lurkers.
