Durand had been in this world for three months. Although he knew this world was the Dragon Ball universe, the place where Durand landed was so remote that the small village didn't even have a TV. Therefore, Durand had no idea what the current time was, or even where he was.
So Durand could only stay in the village, hunting every day to get food. The only thing he could do now was wait, wait until autumn when traveling merchants would come to the village to trade. At that time, Durand could ask the merchants to take him out of the village, giving him a chance to go to places he knew by name, such as West City, Baozi Mountain, and Penguin Village.
Durand lay on a rock, using his astonishing eyesight to look at a terrifying animal several kilometers away—a dinosaur. Autumn was approaching, and the traveling merchants would soon arrive. So Durand decided to catch a large prey to exchange for some leverage.
The dinosaur's gray, rough scales covered its entire body like rocks. Its thick limbs supported its massive body. Although Durand didn't know what kind of dinosaur it was, he felt it was definitely not a gentle one. The dinosaur had a sharp horn on its head, and its teeth were sharp, especially the canines, which gleamed coldly.
Durand hid downwind, already able to smell the stench of the unknown dinosaur. Frowning, he thought about how to keep the dinosaur intact. Previously, Durand had hunted without much care, often ruining the fur and skin. This time, to exchange for leverage, Durand needed to find a way to keep the prey intact.
"If I use my energy, I can easily kill the dinosaur, but it won't fetch a good price," Durand thought. His strength wasn't enough yet. Otherwise, he could just knock the dinosaur out like in the anime. "Right, I can provoke it and make it crash into the mountain."
With a plan in mind, Durand charged forward. "Beast, prepare to die."
The gray dinosaur clearly didn't notice Durand. After all, compared to the dinosaur, Durand was like an ant to an elephant. But once Durand made his move, things changed. With a few leaps, he was already above the dinosaur. He clenched his right fist and struck the scales with all his might.
Even the rock-like scales couldn't withstand Durand's powerful blow and shattered, with his fist sinking in.
"Roar—" The dinosaur felt the pain and roared loudly, then jumped up in a fit of rage.
Durand used the dinosaur's back to jump to its head. Another heavy blow shattered the dinosaur's scales.
The dinosaur roared even louder and noticed Durand, who was constantly jumping around. It swung its horn, trying to hit Durand.
Seeing that he had attracted the dinosaur's attention, Durand began to provoke it even more. At the same time, he adjusted his position, hoping that when the dinosaur charged, there would be a large rock behind him.
After successfully provoking the dinosaur, Durand deliberately increased the distance between them. The dinosaur would only charge at long distances, a conclusion Durand had drawn from hunting several dinosaurs.
With his current strength, hunting a dinosaur was no longer a challenge. After a few feints, the dinosaur finally charged in anger.
Although it took a lot of time, Durand felt it was worth it. The dinosaur, except for a few shattered scales, was still intact, though its skull was likely broken.
The dinosaur was huge, and it was the first time Durand had hunted such a large prey. Transporting it was a challenge. Durand didn't have the strength to lift the dinosaur; his current strength relied entirely on the endless energy in his body, and his physical condition was only moderately strong. Although Durand was training his body, whether pushing rocks or pulling logs, his strength hadn't increased significantly. What Durand really wanted was for someone to create a gravity room, preferably one that could be stored in a convenient capsule. The only scientists capable of this were probably the mad scientist in Penguin Village and Bulma and her father in West City.
In autumn, four traveling merchants drove their wagons into the village. Although the Dragon Ball world was called Earth, its technological development was very advanced, but many regions still maintained a primitive appearance, like the merchants' wagons.
The dinosaur Durand hunted helped him a lot, so he smoothly negotiated with the merchants. After a week, Durand finally left the village he had lived in for several months, riding in a wagon.
A month later, Durand finally arrived at the legendary West City. During the month, most of his time was spent on mountain roads. After reaching a small town, it only took a few days to travel to West City. Durand originally planned to stay in the town to gather more information, but upon arriving, he suddenly felt an impulse and hurriedly bought a plane ticket, changing flights several times to reach West City.
During these few days, Durand learned more about the current time in this world. Mr. Satan hadn't appeared yet, and theoretically, the major events hadn't happened. This made Durand feel relieved, at least he still had time to prepare.
In West City, with his current status, Durand had no chance to visit Bulma's home. Fortunately, he didn't immediately want to enter the gravity room. First, he needed to determine the time period.
Durand looked up the champions of the World Martial Arts Tournaments, hoping to find familiar names like Jackie Chun, Tien, and Goku. Finally, he found Jackie Chun and Tien's names at the end of the list, indicating that it was the time of King Piccolo.
"King Piccolo hasn't appeared yet. So Goku should be collecting the Dragon Balls to revive Krillin," Durand thought. "To find Goku, I can either go to Korin Tower to meet the Cat仙人, who always knows Goku's whereabouts, or I can go to Bulma to have her make a Dragon Radar." In the end, Durand decided to go to Korin Tower because the Senzu Beans were more attractive than the Dragon Balls.
In West City, Durand bought a basic set of convenient capsules. He hadn't learned the Flight Technique yet, so a flying saucer was necessary. He also prepared a set of weights to wear while climbing Korin Tower.
The autopilot robot drove the spaceship without taking a detour, and it only took two days for Durand to reach the base of Korin Tower. Wearing the weights, Durand looked up at the towering tower. He spat on his palms, hugged the tower, and kicked off with his feet, running up a bit.
To be honest, climbing the tower was exhausting. Durand had never engaged in such a prolonged physical activity. Previously, when hunting, he had always relied on quick and decisive actions, with the help of his energy. But now, after just half a day, Durand was already out of breath. He took out a rope and tied himself to the tower, not wanting to fall due to carelessness. Although he had endless energy, he still didn't know how to use it well. If he fell from such a height, he would turn into a puddle of meat.
After securing himself, Durand took out some food. At this rate, he estimated it would take him at least a month and a half to reach the top. Sighing, he closed his eyes to rest for a while.
Korin Tower was very tall, as Durand knew. But when he actually started climbing, he cursed whoever built it so high. Fortunately, after a few days, he began to get used to the repetitive movement of his limbs.
The weather was gloomy today, with dark clouds and distant thunder. Durand frowned; he had encountered rain before, but today's rain might be heavier, and there could be lightning. The storm came quickly, with thunder rumbling around Korin Tower.
Durand's scalp tingled. He didn't know whether to stay and wait for the rain to pass or to continue climbing. Before his穿越, Durand was just an ordinary person, and although he had become a perpetual motion machine, he still couldn't make quick decisions to avoid danger.
The lightning seemed to be right next to him, and his eardrums almost burst. Finally, Durand decided to continue climbing. Distracting himself helped him forget his fear. The wind was strong, and he climbed at half his usual speed, using three to four times the usual effort. But Durand gritted his teeth and kept climbing, not daring to relax. This indeed reduced his fear of lightning. Focusing on climbing, he unconsciously increased his speed. In the wind and rain, his speed became the same as usual.
It was a new day, and Durand's clothes were already worn out. Fortunately, he still had a set of weights, so he wasn't completely exposed. After the storm, Durand found that his climbing speed had increased. However, as he climbed higher, he felt that the effort required also increased. He thought it might be due to the thin air at high altitudes, which accelerated his energy consumption.
His limbs continued to exert effort, and Durand could now climb for over ten hours without stopping, significantly improving his physical condition. On the fifth day after the storm, after a simple breakfast, Durand climbed for several more hours when the sky suddenly turned dark. Durand snapped out of his daze and looked at his watch, "It's not that late yet, and it doesn't look like it's going to rain." This unscientific weather change made Durand think of a possibility: Goku had lost to King Piccolo, and the Dragon was summoned.
"Already this fast?" Durand felt embarrassed. He had been climbing for almost a month, and he was still not at the top, "I can't be overtaken by Yajirobe, that would be too embarrassing."
Then Durand's face fell because just three days after the Dragon's appearance, he saw a black dot rapidly approaching from below. It was Yajirobe, and he was carrying an injured Goku on his back. Moving faster than a monkey, he quickly reached Durand.
Durand forced a smile, "Oh, hello, what a coincidence."
Yajirobe, who hadn't expected to meet anyone so high up on Korin Tower, could only say, "Yes, what a coincidence." Seeing Durand's tattered clothes and disheveled appearance, Yajirobe knew he had been climbing for a while. If it were Yajirobe, he would have mocked Durand, but with Goku still unconscious, he didn't have the time.
"Your friend is injured? Are you going up to seek help? Go ahead." Durand pretended to be concerned and watched Yajirobe climb up the tower.
After Yajirobe carried Goku up, Durand clenched his teeth and continued his journey. This time, he shortened his eating and sleeping time, climbing for sixteen hours a day. He was really embarrassed by Yajirobe, who, in the original story, was just a minor character but had such good physical condition, making Durand realize that this world was indeed unscientific.
Finally, on the eighth day after meeting Yajirobe, Durand also climbed to the top of the tower. Meeting the legendary Cat仙人, he confirmed that this world was indeed unscientific.
Goku had already undergone the Super Water treatment and set out to face King Piccolo. Durand, however, was still curiously examining his first Senzu Bean, "I wonder how it tastes."
"You don't want to eat it? Give it to me then." Yajirobe, a food lover, was eager and not picky.
Of course, Durand wasn't willing to give away the Senzu Bean, knowing its importance. He carefully hid it and took out the food he had prepared.
"You're well-prepared, aren't you?" The Cat仙人 tried not to look at the delicious food Durand had brought.
"I have a lot. Do you two want to join me?" Durand knew there were many big eaters in this world, and his own appetite had also increased after his穿越.
Seeing the mountain of food Durand brought, the Cat仙人 and Yajirobe didn't hesitate. The three of them feasted to their heart's content.
"Alright, young man, tell me your purpose," the Cat仙人 said, washing his face with his paw after eating.
After his穿越, Durand had returned to his teenage years, another benefit of the穿越.
"I came to Korin Tower to learn how to use energy from the Cat仙人."
"Oh?" The Cat仙人 had never seen someone come directly to learn about energy. "What do you know about energy?"
Durand took a deep breath and described what he knew about energy from the manga. "Energy is a manifestation of power. Everyone has energy, or power, in their body. With training, the quality and quantity of energy increase. When a person focuses and guides the energy, it can be released outside the body."
The Cat仙人 nodded. "You're not wrong. Since you know the principles of energy, you should also know how to use it. Why are you asking me?"
Durand felt embarrassed. He knew that whether it was Goku, Krillin, or Tien, they had all created their own techniques after learning about energy. Krillin's Kamehameha, Yamcha's Wolf Fang Fist, or Goku's Kamehameha that could turn corners, were all their own creations.
"Cat仙人, I know about energy and can use it simply, but I feel it has more uses, and I haven't figured it out, so I came here."
The Cat仙人 licked his paw and looked at Durand. "How do you use energy?"
Durand stood in the center of the hall, extended his hands, and made a gesture often seen in martial arts films for healing. Adjusting his breathing, he felt the energy flowing in his body and directed it to his palms. A light appeared in front of his palms, and Durand shouted, "Go, Rulai Palm!" The energy formed a palm shape and flew out.
It wasn't that Durand was showing off; he just couldn't control the energy well. After leaving his body, the energy would disperse. So he named this move Rulai Palm, which seemed fitting. This move had helped him crush many prey.
However, to experts, Durand's move was weak and had no real power because the energy was too scattered. The Cat仙人 shook his head, realizing how poorly Durand controlled energy.
"Are you swatting flies?" Yajirobe teased.
"Alright, learning to use energy is simple. Just drink the Super Water," the Cat仙人 said, pointing to a bottle on a pillar with his staff.
Durand, of course, knew that the Super Water in the bottle was just ordinary water. The important part was the training from the Cat仙人.
"Thank you, Cat仙人."
"Don't thank me yet. Whether you can drink it depends on your own ability." The Cat仙人 performed a 720-degree spin in the air and landed steadily on the pillar, hanging the Super Water bottle on his staff. "Come, if you can take it, you can drink the Super Water."
