Chapter 7 of 10

Chapter 7

5 min read1,206 words

In the center of the zombie horde, a solitary billboard stood, the four large characters "Trembling World" still vividly red, but now beneath these four characters was a survivor, a survivor who was already exhausted and deeply mired in despair.

Looking at the zombies howling all around, Liu Qian sighed deeply to the sky. Life's encounters are always so unpredictable. A year ago, he had entered the lowest point of his life with broken hands and feet. Now, he finally had his limbs back, but he found himself in such a dire and even hopeless situation.

God, indeed, had opened a window for him but had also closed a door.

So tired, so thirsty...

Would it rain? Liu Qian looked up at the sky. The thunder and lightning at the horizon seemed to be getting closer. The heavy rain over there should soon reach here, right? Rain could bring water, which could solve Liu Qian's current extreme thirst.

But Liu Qian quickly dismissed this thought. The lightning and thunder at the horizon suggested a thunderstorm. While a thunderstorm could bring water, it could also bring terrifying lightning. The huge billboard he was sitting on had no lightning protection, and because it itself resembled a lightning rod, standing so independently in the center of the square, it might very well attract lightning to it.

If that happened, it was easy to imagine what would happen to Liu Qian sitting on it.

Moreover, what if the rain from the sky was red blood rain? The rain in the game's opening interface was red, seemingly hinting that the origin of this zombie world was related to that red rain.

If he drank that red rain, would he also become a mindless, unthinking zombie like those below the billboard?

The dangers were numerous, and there seemed to be no hope of survival.

"Trembling World" indeed lived up to its name, giving Liu Qian an incredibly desperate and trembling experience right from the start.

Liu Qian thought that if he wanted to survive and find food and water to live, he had to find a way to leave the square. Since the zombies were all attracted to the square, the streets around the square must have far fewer zombies, meaning those streets would be relatively safe for the time being.

The problem was, how could he leave the square and get to those streets with thousands of zombies surrounding the billboard from all sides?

Without external help, it seemed impossible to achieve this.

Liu Qian tried to calm himself. After his strength had somewhat recovered, his mind began to work quickly. Since he was still alive, he had to find a way to continue living. He believed that there was always a way out, and he would find a way to leave this place.

After carefully recalling and thinking about everything that had happened since entering the game, Liu Qian realized that the game had given the players a period to adapt, but they had missed the opportunity. For example, when the ten players first appeared in the square, the number of zombies in the square was not too many. At that time, they could have quietly left the square and found a relatively safe place to hide.

Even if they had wasted that time, the first one to attack them was just a female zombie.

If the players had not teased the female zombie, they could have calmly killed her. After that, they still had about seven or eight minutes without encountering further zombie attacks, and they could have chosen to escape calmly. But the time was wasted on meaningless discussions.

After killing the three zombies that attacked later, the players still had a chance to escape, but they continued with meaningless discussions, wasting precious survival time, and finally, the mutated zombie entered the square. The players' running, shouting, and the sound of the Molotov cocktails exploding attracted a large number of zombies from the nearby streets, forming a zombie horde that led to the near-total annihilation of the ten players, leaving Liu Qian alone on the billboard.

In fact, even when the mutated zombie appeared, the players still had a chance. If they had not fled in all directions but had worked together to attack it, they could have severely injured it and then escaped through the manhole cover in the square before the zombie horde formed.

In other words, the game did not push the players into a dead end from the beginning but gave them many choices and multiple opportunities to survive. However, the players, confused and panicked by the game's realism, missed these opportunities one after another, leading to the current near-total annihilation.

Liu Qian felt he needed to learn from these lessons and remain calm in his future actions. Even if he was trapped on the billboard, as long as he did not panic and thought calmly, he still had a chance to find a way out and escape successfully.

He had to do his best to stay alive!

After regaining his normal limbs, Liu Qian, who had fallen into the lowest point of his life a year ago as a disabled person, once again felt the happiness of being a normal person. This happiness of having intact limbs was hard-won.

Liu Qian touched his hands and legs, even took off his shirt to examine his arms. His prosthetics were indeed gone, replaced by perfect limbs seamlessly connected to his body.

After losing his limbs a year ago, Liu Qian had dreamed many times of regrowing his limbs, feeling overwhelmed with emotion in his dreams. He had begged the heavens countless times that if his limbs could grow back, he would be willing to pay any price.

Now, everything he had dreamed of and yearned for had become real. So, the cost of being in this desperate and trembling situation was bearable. At least he was still alive, with intact limbs.

In the real world, Liu Qian was a rich second generation, with no financial pressure and many hobbies. He could do whatever he wanted. His favorite sport was parkour. More than a year ago, he had even participated in CCTV's "Challenge the Impossible" and held several world records in parkour that had not been broken.

He was also a mountaineering enthusiast. Last year, while Liu Qian and his brother were climbing Mount Everest and were about to reach the summit, they suddenly encountered a blizzard. His sleeping bag mysteriously went missing, and after a night of exhaustion and fatigue in the tent, he lost all sensation in his limbs.

After being rescued by a helicopter from Mount Everest, Liu Qian had his limbs amputated in the hospital, with both arms and legs being cut off. Fortunately, his family was wealthy and equipped him with the most advanced mechanical alloy prosthetics. The current prosthetic technology was limited, and Liu Qian spent a long time training to barely adapt to how to control the prosthetics, but it was only an adaptation.
