"Boss, how much do you sell these little turtles for?" Perhaps it was the poster Su Zhe drew himself that attracted people, or perhaps it was the cute appearance of the little turtles in the water. Soon, an old lady who had just bought groceries came up to ask about the price.
"The little turtles are 10 yuan each, and I'll throw in some turtle food. If you buy two, I'll also give you a pet box," Su Zhe quickly said when he saw a customer.
The old lady was still a bit hesitant: "Are the little turtles hard to take care of? I don't want them to die after I buy them."
"How could they? My little turtles are very easy to take care of. Look how lively they are. And if you buy from me, I'll give you some tips. Follow them, and they'll definitely be fine," Su Zhe picked up a little turtle from the aquarium and showed it to the old lady. The little turtle was very cooperative and not afraid of people. It struggled in the old lady's hand, trying to break free and gain its freedom.
"Alright, give me two. Remember to pick the liveliest ones. If I can't take care of them, I'll come back to you," the old lady took out 20 yuan from her wallet and handed it to Su Zhe, still a bit worried.
Su Zhe took the money: "Sure, I'll give you the two liveliest little turtles." Then he picked out the two most active turtles from the water, put them in a pet box, and handed the turtle food and tips to the old lady.
The turtle care tips mainly introduced the origin of the Chinese grass turtle, what the little grass turtles eat, and their habits. Su Zhe found this information on online forums and combined it with his own experience, printing it out on A4 paper.
Although the care methods were not very advanced, as long as one followed them, taking care of the grass turtles would not be a problem. The main reason Su Zhe gave out the care tips was not just to make the turtles more attractive to sell, but also to hope that the buyers would understand the turtles better. He wanted them to take good care of the turtles and not let them die.
Many people buy turtles on a whim without understanding how to take care of them. When they get interested, they buy them. After bringing them home, they start to fuss over them. They feed the little turtles delicious food and change the water several times a day. Most of the little turtles die under their meticulous care.
In the end, most of the turtle owners complain that the little turtles are too fragile. They claim they have done their best, but the turtles still die for no apparent reason.
They never think about whether their care is right or wrong. What they consider nutritious might not be suitable for turtles. Frequent water changes might make the turtles uncomfortable with the environment and water temperature. Cleaning the turtles is good, but overdoing it can kill them.
Although many people buy turtles on a whim, most of them still put a lot of effort into taking care of them, just using the wrong methods. Therefore, Su Zhe gave out the care tips to hope that the buyers would take care of the turtles correctly and not let the little lives suffer. Turtles are easy to take care of once they adapt to their environment.
Not long after the old lady left, another person came to look at the turtles. It was a man and a woman, and it seemed the man was courting the woman.
"Handsome guy, buy a little turtle for your girlfriend. Look how cute this little turtle is. You can buy one for 10 yuan, and I'll throw in some turtle food," Su Zhe said to the boy, deliberately showing a little turtle to the girl. He knew that many girls have no resistance to such small animals.
Perhaps the word "girlfriend" made the boy very excited: "Yeah, Nana, this little turtle is so cute. Shall I buy it for you to take care of?" The girl was also very excited by the little turtle and nodded in agreement.
"Better yet, both of you should each take one. Raising them together can foster your relationship. If you buy two, I'll give you a pet box," Su Zhe added while the iron was hot.
"Alright, I'll take four. Nana, let's each take two and see who can take better care of them," the boy, hearing that raising turtles together could foster their relationship, became even more fond of the little turtles. Buying little turtles was much cheaper than buying flowers.
"Hmph, let's see. I'll definitely take better care of them and make my little turtle fat and healthy," the girl said, squatting down and muttering to herself, "I'll pick the little turtles myself to make sure mine is ahead from the start."
The boy naturally didn't argue with the girl. He picked out two turtles himself and paid the money. He was already overjoyed, as he had unknowingly gotten closer to the girl for just a few dozen yuan.
Thus, Su Zhe easily made another sale, selling four little turtles. It was now 5:30 PM, the peak of the rush hour, with people coming and going. With more people around, Su Zhe's business naturally picked up, with many people coming to ask about the prices. Because the price was not high and the little turtles looked very attractive, most of the people who asked ended up buying two or three to take home.
Around 7 PM, Su Zhe started to pack up. There were fewer people now, and almost no one was buying turtles. The main reason was that he didn't feel anything when business was good, but once there were fewer people and no one was asking about the prices, he realized he was almost starving. He had only eaten a few bread rolls since morning. So he decided to pack up and go eat, planning to come back and sell again the next day.
When he was packing up, he counted. He had sold a total of 51 little turtles and received 510 yuan.
Two little turtles plus a pet box and turtle food cost him 20 yuan. The purchase price for two little turtles was only 5.2 yuan, a mini pet box was 2 yuan, and a small pack of turtle food plus the cost of printing the tips was about 0.4 yuan. In total, it was 7.6 yuan.
After calculating, it turned out that Su Zhe made at least 6 yuan for each little turtle he sold, and if someone bought just one little turtle without the pet box, he would make even more.
In just over an hour, he made about 300 yuan, with a profit margin exceeding 100%. This made Su Zhe happy but also secretly regretful, wondering why he hadn't realized the high profit margin of selling little turtles before.
However, he knew that if he had done it before, he might have lost all his capital. Just relying on the turtle care knowledge he learned online, he could take care of a few turtles, but raising a large number of little turtles would cause various problems that would make him very anxious. Once the turtles were densely raised, any problem could easily lead to a large-scale infection.
Just like when he started selling turtles in the afternoon, the problems with the little turtles left him helpless. Fortunately, he received divine help and cured the little turtles. Otherwise, he wouldn't have made any money today. He might have even sold them at a loss, and if he had delayed, the little turtles would have died.
