In AD 2019, humanity was forced into a war with the hostile beings that came from a pillar of light—known as “Pillar”, which appeared completely out of the blue.
The pillar of light, which at first appeared in the mountains of Northern Europe, affected the surrounding lands adversely, in contrast to the beautiful and majestic impression it gave. This phenomenon, which is now called “The Starvation Phenomenon”, sucks out all the life in the surrounding area and brings the lands near it to ruin.
The mountains withered and the flora and fauna decayed in the face of this unknown phenomenon—and humanity’s response to this was all but quick.
At first, they were late in grasping the gravity of the situation and brought upon greater damage by viewing the situation optimistically. Finally, when the dispatch party they sent was wiped out, they had no choice but to acknowledge the threat this pillar of light posed.
With that, movement began to get rid of the pillar physically once and for all, making the situation take another sudden turn.
—From the pillar of light, which was now bombarded by the humans, countless hostile beings appeared.
And ever since, all the vanguard units have been getting eliminated by these hostile targets which came to be called the “Pillar”, driving humanity to a corner, making them come up with a game plan.
However, thereafter, the Pillar’s so far peaceful invasion had gotten drastically more intense. From Northern Europe to residential areas, leaving the inhabitants no other choice but to abandon their land and flee.
As if to ridicule these people who had to leave their hometown, this pillar of light started appearing in multiple locations and devastated lands around the world. And when the army was deployed to try and thwart this progression, they were easily annihilated by the Pillar.
The Pillars were beings cladded in some sort of power which made them immune to conventional weaponry, making them humanity’s natural enemy as we have evolved our ways of war through gunpowder.
Lives were lost in vain, lands after lands were taken from lost battles and when more than half of the people who knew about the old ways of war died in battle, the young ones were being sent into war, one after another.
Humanity was, without a doubt, slowly rolling down a slope to extinction.
“—Someone, is someone there? Anyone, please respond.”
She asked through the radio but it was in vain—only the resounding noise of the sandstorm came from the other side.
The loud and noisy conversation between the comrades which could be heard just a while ago could no longer be heard. Stupid jokes, trivial humor, and voices which worried about her well-being.
It was as if all were engulfed by the sandstorm on the other side.
“——-“
The battlefield reflected on the sky blue eyes as they watched down from the cockpit of a fighter plane.
