Chapter 11.2

Because family cases often involved the privacy of customers in all aspects, Junheng had strict regulations on confidentiality of case materials since the beginning of employment. The employment contract clearly stated that “all operating information on the work computer will not be considered part of the privacy protection clause, and Junheng has the complete right to procure as well as use it.” Cheng Yao naturally saw this clause, but didn’t take it seriously. Maybe she didn’t think that someone would really go and check the information that employees browsed at work one by one.

The more Qian Heng looked at these browsing records, the more he sneered in his heart. Sure enough, the more docile one looks on the surface, the more wild their hearts are. Cheng Yao, you better pray not to let me catch you.

However, the more Qian Heng looked at it, the more he realized that Cheng Yao really didn’t have anything that could be used against her. She only idled around during her lunch break but never slacked off during the working hours. Every day, she diligently sat on her chair and helped Bao Rui to do some copying, printing or filing tasks. Then, she studied those so-called “classic cases” that were neither systematic nor targeted. It seemed that she firmly believed that she could become a well-known lawyer in the industry as long as she worked hard enough. But by studying these cases for practice, one would only end up becoming a teacher.

Qian Heng passed by Cheng Yao’s desk several times, and saw her seriously taking notes of those “classic cases” from the screen. With her bangs slightly falling on her bright face and big round eyes, she looked somewhat naive and innocent.

Since Bao Rui was unable to participate in the Bai Xingmeng case, he had to let Cheng Yao take the lead. However, Qian Heng deliberately introduced her to the hard work of being a lawyer, so that she would quit early. He arranged for her to go to various industrial and commercial bureaus to retrieve corporate files. There was not much technical content and the job completely consumed one’s energy and time. In such cold and rainy weather, it was difficult to get a taxi. Some Industrial and Commercial Bureaus were located on the outer suburbs and could only be reached by bus or subway. It was a job that an ordinary little girl would not be willing to do.

Qian Heng was originally waiting for Cheng Yao to come and ask for favour, so that he could push the boat along with the current1 and find a new reason to expel her.

But Qian Heng didn’t expect that Cheng Yao would obey all his orders without saying a word. Not only did she listen to all the orders, she also completed them perfectly. Once, when she returned to the office with the files from the industrial and commercial bureau, she was soaked through. It was probably because the rain was too heavy and she really didn’t get a taxi. But she still never complained of the hardships or tiredness.

When Qian Heng passed by the office break room, he saw her shivering and drying her wet hair. She was holding a cup of hot tea while bowing her body to keep herself warm. But probably the tea was too hot to hold, her face contorted in pain. Cheng Yao was reluctant to part with the temperature, so she kept shuffling the cup from one hand to another.

Ordinary people would look ugly in this embarrassing state, but Qian Heng found that Cheng Yao looked pretty even in this way.

Although no evidence could be found in the industrial and commercial files, Qian Heng was really moved by her attitude towards the case.

Seeing Cheng Yao’s boundless endurance and vigorous spirit, he wondered what would be the outcome if she was coached a little over time. It was like betting on a rock. He wondered whether it would turn out as a rough jade or as a stone after the final cut.

”

”

Suddenly, Qian Heng unexpectedly started having some expectations.

* * *

He didn’t know whether it was because of this or because of her dinner last night, Qian Heng finally made an exception and gave her some tips. But he still abided by his principle of fighting special connections.

A pretty girl like her was probably used to being praised and spoiled by others. He was sure if she was struck again, she would withdraw.

It was a pity that Cheng Yao didn’t seem to play according to this reason…

“Boss, I know I am not as good as Bao Rui now, but I will definitely continue to work hard!” When she learned that Bao Rui had already come up with clues, she was really disappointed. But suddenly her mood changed and she was full of enthusiasm. Cheng Yao’s eyes were shining like stars. “I know you must have a good intention to say this. You said this so that I won’t become prideful, continue to work hard and keep my feet on the ground, right? I will definitely not disappoint you!

” …”

Qian Heng very much wanted to tell her that he was genuinely trying to demotivate her…

“Then I will go back and continue to study the related cases!”

Although there was still a trace of loss in her eyes, Cheng Yao’s voice was very clear.

“Chocolate.”

“Huh?”

Qian Heng pursed his lips, not knowing why he suddenly mentioned chocolate out of the blue.

“The chocolate on the table is for you.”

Cheng Yao was a little surprised, but as expected, her eyes curved again.

Qian Heng quickly added “It’s too sweet, I don’t like it.”

Cheng Yao didn’t mind. She thanked him and went out happily.

As soon as Cheng Yao walked away, Wu Jun entered his office.

“Qian Heng, why is my chocolate in Cheng Yao’s hands? You take my things to present the Buddha with borrowed flowers2! This chocolate was a token of all my affections for you. Did you have to trample on my feelings this way?”

Qian Heng’s expression was still very cold. “I don’t like to eat such greasy things. I have told you many times.”

“Then why didn’t you just throw it away as per usual style?”

“To give you some face.”

“Oh, then why didn’t you give me face after my breakup, when I called you in the middle of the night for some comfort? Do you remember what you did? You immediately added me to the blacklist!”

Qian Heng pursed his lips and changed his explanation, ” To optimize resource allocation.”

“Then why didn’t you allocate it to others?” Wu Jun looked at him sadly, “Partner Qian, be an upright person! You should give your grace equally to everyone.”

Qian Heng put down the file in his hand, “Wu Jun, are you very idle and lonely these days? ”

“Yes. ”

“The cleaning aunt, who is responsible for cleaning our floors, has just divorced. Why don’t you go and help her? Who knows maybe you two lonely souls would hit it off?”

“……”
