Although she was still far behind Bao Rui and Qian Heng, Cheng Yao was still very happy because she had relied on her own research and found the clues of the hidden company by herself.

In any case, Cheng Yao seemed to have more confidence in being a family lawyer.

She buried her head and began to study other clues and details until Tan Ying tapped her on her shoulder.

“Are you free tonight?”

Cheng Yao nodded her head.

“Then let’s make plans.” Tan Ying smiled. “Let’s give you a small welcome party in the evening.”

Cheng Yao was a little flattered but before she could speak, she heard Tan Ying continue: “Yes, I forgot to ask you, do you have a boyfriend?”

“Single.”

“Great!” Tan Ying winked at Cheng Yao. “This welcome gathering is organised by Bao Rui and he also invited his friends from the other offices. Some of them are senior lawyers and they are pretty good looking. All of them are well-known golden bachelors in the circle. You don’t know but your future boyfriend could be at the party tonight.”

“Bao Rui? Is his leg better?”

“Don’t you know that Bao Rui’s nickname is Yechangbao1? As long as it’s a party even if he’s paralysed he’ll come in a wheelchair. Right now he’s only sprained his foot and can come in crutches.”

What kind of spirit is this…?

Cheng Yao was moved by this but she also reminded Tan Ying: “He sprained his foot and asked for leave from work. If Partner Qian finds out about it, it wouldn’t be very good…”

“If we don’t tell Partner Qian then it’ll be fine.”

“Wait, so we’re not going to invite Partner Qian to the welcome party? That’s not good either…”

Tan Ying smiled amorously: “Although I’ve only been at JunHeng two months more than you, I have already figured out JunHeng’s unspoken rules. It’s like this, as employees we’ll invite the boss to private gatherings out of courtesy. However, Partner Qian has never participated and refused every single time. So, you just need to go and pretend to invite Partner Qian and then we would have done our duty.”

Cheng Yao sighed in relief and nodded.

With Tan Ying’s encouragement, Cheng Yao gathered her courage and knocked on Qian Heng’s office door.

“Boss…”

“I’m very busy, don’t speak in circles, just get to the point.”

Cheng Yao coughed and concealed her nervousness: “It’s like this, several colleagues in the office want to hold a welcome party for me and a few other newcomers tonight. We would like to invite you to participate.”

“No time, I’m not going.”

As expected by Tan Ying, Qian Heng refused decisively and mercilessly.

Hearing his refusal, Cheng Yao also felt relief in her heart and took the initiative to leave Qian Heng’s office.

The afternoon passed by quickly. Cheng Yao checked out several court cases on property disputes. When it was time for her to leave work, she and Tan Ying smiled tacitly and left together.

Bao Rui arranged the party in a German beer restaurant. The atmosphere there was quite good. Bao Rui had booked a private room. As a beer restaurant, there weren’t any of those rules found in general western restaurants. It wasn’t too formal or too casual, nor too quiet or too noisy.

In addition to Bao Rui, Tan Ying, Cheng Yao and some other newcomers, a few lawyers from another team in JunHeng came too. After a while, Bao Rui’s friends from the other offices also came.

With a group of ten people, Bao Rui ordered the dishes very enthusiastically. Although the purpose of the dinner was to welcome the newcomers, the lawyers were obviously old acquaintances. Once they met, they chatted with each other.

Bao Rui happily introduced everyone: “This is Li Chengxuan from BRICS Law Firm, who also specialises in family law. He was promoted to Partner a month ago; this is Zhang Yang also known as Partner Zhang, an expert in inheritance law. I think he just closed a case with attorney fees as high as tens of millions?”

“This is Cheng Yao, the newcomer in our team. You have met Tan Ying. There is Wang Lu and…”

Before Bao Rui’s introduction was finished, Cheng Yao’s cell phone rang.

The word “Stupid” made Cheng Yao very excited.
